I mean other than “don’t play Overwatch on Switch again”
Half of me wonders why I put myself through this. But the other half thinks I may be onto something. I’m so out of my element, it might trigger my brain to really work on my positioning and such all over again. If I can just get the vertical part of gyro aim under control, maybe it’ll get a lot better
I promise you, put me on a Switch right now and suddenly I go from mid-Gold to Toilet Paper 6. I feel insanely sluggish Although I did still place 3rd in a FFA as LW so IDK
I really really love Nintendo and their consoles in general, but I’m also not afraid to admit that this particular game is DEFINITELY best enjoyed on any other platform in existence. This is one of the (IMO) rare situations where their console’s relative lack of power becomes an issue
Really, my main motivator was just mingling in the console pool. Seeing how things are going over here, and being in an entire pool of players who I normally wouldn’t encounter on PC. Also getting a reminder of how the game feels to play with much fewer keybinds to work with, for context. Especially now with the pings and everything
I would rather say that the issue is lack of optimizations of the new engine tbh.
There was a period around 2021-2022 that the game was enjoyable in there. Ow2 engine is a mess on any platform anyways.
While switch is an underpowered console, is a dedicated platform without much bloatware. We have some amazing ports in there despite it’s limitations proving that. Ow isn’t exactly high demanding game by any strech of imaginaton, just poorly optimized one. The 2019 OW version was way worse than the 2021 one. Which got worsened by the current one.
Dang, I never got to experience smooth Switch Overwatch. I got the PC version in summer 2020, and stopped actually playing on Switch sometime that same year. And now I’ve just reinstalled on Switch last night. I’m glad to hear it got a moment to shine at some point though
Update on my experience: I’m way too intimidated to play Support on this platform at the moment. I think I’ll try to stick to DPS while I figure out how to move properly; that actually seems to be going great so far. I don’t seem to be having any trouble keeping up with the others there
On support, I did have at least one full match of trying to play Weaver though. I SO haven’t gotten the controls set up right for him yet. So that on top of me still getting used to just moving around and existing at 30FPS with this control scheme meant I was floundering the whole time
Somehow I thought it was a good idea to bind weapon swap to D-pad up. So I was pressing it with the knuckle of my left thumb. And it was right next to the ping button too, so sometimes I would accidentally mash that button in the process of trying to change weapons and end up randomly pinging at nothing
When I stopped playing for the night, I switched some of those controls around again. Now weapon swap is bound to left stick click, moved interact to right stick click, and quick melee is D-pad up. Maybe that’s smoother
I bought the game on Switch in 2020 expecting to play just a few games from time to time and I ended up playing more than 400 hours.
It felt like 2016 Overwatch again. There was no crossplay back then, so the game was filled with brand new players and every game was pure chaos. I loved it, it was so much fun. And the performance was surprisingly good for a Switch.
Then crossplay happened and Switch players entered the console pool, meaning you were playing on a tablet against guys running next gen consoles. Not fun. I haven’t played OW on Switch ever since. It was fun while it lasted though.
Im playing since 2016 and I’ve been playing on it since it was available for the Nintendo switch until today. I have a Playstation and a PC, but I work best on the Nintendo Switch, which is how I achieved Diamond Rank.
I bought the switch just for Monster Hunter and Animal Crossing and it’s nearly impossible to aim on 30fps and the gyro is horribly implemented. It’s not good like on Splatoon so you are better off without it.
Make sure to make a new account just for the switch. I used my PC main account and I was playing against GM every game and I got flamed and receiving death threats for only doing 1k DAMAGE!
