I’d say input lag is less noticeable with controller because the acceleration inherent in analog control dampens the sensation of the delay. It’ll feel the same if you play with a controller on PC at equivalent settings. Think of it like a light switch with a dimmer. If it had a delay, it would be difficult to notice since the light starts off so faint and then gradually increases.
If you’re paying attention for controller latency though, you can easily feel it. Render latency alone is .17s at 60 fps. I finally got around to starting Elden Ring on PC this week and the latency makes me want to puke.
I grew up playing Halo on the consoles, and I think I was pretty good back in the day. Recently, I got into playing it on PC, and when I tried to go back to consoles, I was consistently at the bottom of the leaderboard.
For me it depends on the game. I could never play another game that needs you to “aim” on console. Even Tomb Raider for me is hellish… which is weird because growing up that was it, Killzone, Medal of Honour, Perfect Dark…
Red Dead, I’ll take a controller any day over a mouse… unless it’s pvp.
I’ve been playing on PC and consoles my entire life (Nintendo, Sony) and I just couldn’t give up any of them. Sure “high frames” on PC are always a plus but let’s not kid ourselves : depending on the games, the optimization can be a real nightmare.
For instance, I took Hogwarts Legacy on PS5 (despite having a PC with good specs), and when I’ve heard of the issues it had on PC, I’m glad I got lucky with the PS5 version.
Same goes for The Last of Us Part 1 released a few days ago : completely catastrophic on PC. So yeah, I understand that a lot of games are smoother to play on PC, especially FPS games, but consoles have a lot of exclusive games and controllers are kinda enjoyable on specific games.
I play Overwatch on keyboard + mouse but I tried the Diablo IV beta with my PS5 DualSense Edge (though using my keyboard for menus and inventory) and the experience was just perfect.
I’ve also been spoiled by PC rendering but that doesn’t mean playing on consoles has become stale. Both experiences are different and complementary.
I don’t get why one has to be biased and choose a side … Gaming should be inclusive in all aspects.
Edit : I guess if you’re not into exclusive solo games, that could explain why you chose PC instead over consoles.
