…because I feel like I’m the only one who can’t hear footsteps or any other type of sound like Shadow Step. The Reaper literally teleported right next to me and it didn’t make any sound at all. Jesus, even Riptires and High Noons are sometimes completely silent. I don’t know if it’s just me (probably) or it’s a bug, but it’s really annoying. And yes, the sound effects volume is at its maximum :stuck_out_tongue:

Do you hear a mid aged man yell “ITS HIIIIGH NOON” in a soothing yet condescending tone outta no where?

If so , not deaf.

This happens to me too! I won’t hear certain sound effects, especially if somebody just pops up right behind me. It usually happens when there’s a ton of stuff going on in the screen. Mostly I don’t hear Mei, McCree or Reaper coming up from behind, which usually means an unfair and untimely death.

My ping and connection speed look fine. I’ve tested in custom with my brother to see if it’s my headphones, but it sounds normal from all directions when I do. I’m almost convinced there’s a bug causing sounds not to queue up properly when there’s way too much happening on the screen. That, or my brain gets so focused on certain things that it drowns out other information like sound.

I had that problem for the longest time. Then i got a headset and it’s an entirely new game. I can hear everything now. Are you rocking a headset or playing through speakers?

Could be any mix of those two factors. The personal factor is simply we sometimes ‘dont hear’ sounds cause our brain filters them out in favor of other sounds due to frequency of hte sound or favoring more pressing noises. (I think its called habituation???)

The second though could simply be a bug in OW where certain sounds arent being played properly when other sounds are being played. That could be client side (though probably not honestly) or computer side…

LUL ok im a reaper main and ill tell you whats going on…

so only few reapers and like <1% of all players know this, but… If you press Z or say I need healing (voice lines that the ensemy cant hear,) it will cancel out the “Death Comes” and instead replace it with the new voice line, only the new voice line is silent to enemys. It doesnt work with ults that you said, but it works with shadow step and ALL of sombras abilitys.

Disable the ingame music. It helped me a lot.

Riptire is supposedly too quiet and doesn’t register the 3D sound properly. They are addressing this issue allegedly.

You’re not alone in this. Sometimes I hear as if the tire is coming from very far away, then suddenly blows up in my face, it was always near me somewhere.

Call me old fashion, but I’m rolling with a SoundBlasterZ sound card and I can hear every little detail perfectly. I use a HyperX headset with it, and it is GLORIOUS!

Fun fact, my friend also uses the same HyperX but no sound card… and it sounds awful. I love my sound-card.

It’s one of things that you don’t think you need, but then once you have it, you realize how awesome it is, and then you simply can’t go back.

It strange that sometimes i cant hear anything what is in my back, i had yesterday a Mcree starting his ult directly behind me and i could not hear it till the replay of my death started.

A few things you can do :

  • Try a new headset
  • Disable music
  • Take a test to check your hearing

I also missed some ult sound cues and thought it’s a game issue. But I was just having only one headset on my ear.

Some sounds don’t play if too much crap is going on. I’ve died from poinr bkank range barages. Cause i’m not hearing Pharahs jets.
