I tend not to play competitive. Anyone else?

Hello,

I am someone who loves Overwatch. I love the lore. I love the gameplay. It’s my favorite thing in the world. However, I prefer to play quick play and arcade, primarily total mayhem. I do play competitive, but nowhere near as much. There are days when I feel like I don’t “count” as an Overwatch player because I don’t play comp. Does anyone else play primarily other modes than comp? I expect at least a few comments will say that I indeed do not count as an Overwatch player, and that’s fine, but know it’s not constructive. Thanks!

I think competitive is mayhem because the team depends on you to like push push if you’re a rinehardt people are going to depend on you to use your shield and they’re going to curse or report you for not defending

If you could see my career profile, you’d know that there have been seasons where I really really enjoyed competitive, or at the least, players it. I think I just don’t want to be constantly communicating and trying very hard to coordinate. I never throw and I am always doing my best, but I enjoy quick play in that if I lose, it’s not as big a deal.

Yes, I used to be a hardcore competitive player. It’s fallen off now, I play quick play and arcade all the time. I got a bit tired of competitive. I have those days where I want to try really hard. I love everything about Overwatch, but competitive really isn’t my thing anymore.

Every player counts, doesn’t matter what mode you enjoy.

I really like that mindset. I’m actually one of those hippies who believe that everyone is on their own path in the game, SR is all just relative, yada yada. That’s kind of how I feel though. I like competitive I guess when I’m in the mood for it. The seasons I played a lot were just seasons that I really tried to climb. I got where I wanted (diamond from silver over a few seasons!) so now while I do kind of want to one day get to masters and get back into it, I just am so unmotivated. After a loss in comp, I feel bad. In quick play, that doesn’t happen. I like that.

Same here. I only play when a group I’m in ques us up for it or i’m playing with my college team. While quickplay can be kind of stupid sometimes i like it better, at least for now.

I recently stopped playing comp (after over 100 hours this season) because I’m so sick of how dva and junkrat ruin the game.

it’s definitely not for everyone. It doesn’t make you any less of an overwatch player though. I just love being competitive Its in my blood!

I used to play competitive all the time but recently have been getting burned out of it, still play from time to time but nowadays I’ll just mess around in quick play or arcade (Mystery Heroes, or the new daily brawl).

Also don’t feel like you’re not an Overwatch player just because you don’t play competitive that’s silly, it’s a video game play it however you’d like you’re not required to play competitive.

I’ve been all Mystery Heroes all the time for months now. I like the concept of competitive–the teamwork, synergy, callouts, cooperation, etc.–but my life IRL has been stressful enough lately that I don’t want my hobbies to be stressful, too.

I’ll get back to it one of these seasons.

Why doesn’t this thread show up in my recent post list?

I only play QP.
Don’t play comp, couldn’t care less about my rank or the rank of others.
Ranks mean nothing in QP, it is a carrot on a stick. Something to chase for the feeble minded.
And i see enough of those comp players in QP to never go into that toxic abyss.
IMO Comp is only there to keep the toxic players out of QP.

But the main reason why i play only QP is because i can leave whenever i want to.
When i get the dreadful 4 in my team (Genji, Hanzo, McRekt and Widow) i can just leave without feeling any remorse.
Have played enough QP matches to understand these teams have little to no chance of winning.
When they come to “practice”, i go practice my leave game button

I have 3 times as much play time on deathmatch than comp LOL

Here’s the thing: if you lose in Competitive, it’s not that big a deal either.

Yes, some people will say otherwise, but frankly they’re losing sight of the fact that this is just a game. Out of 35 million players, maybe fewer than 500 will ever make money from it in competition. Maybe a few more will get to make a meaningful income from Twitch or YouTube.

But for the huge, huge majority of us, it means realistically naff all if we lose a game, whether it’s QP, arcade or comp.

I would play the daylights outta comp if this was the predominant attitude in it.

I always rank my account but don’t play much after that. (though I wanted to play a lot of comp in S8. But I don’t feel motivated for tryharding after 10 hours of work almost every day…so it did not happen yet.)

I mostly play QP or FFA/Widow training in arcade. Sometimes Mystery heroes, because my flex player style is advantageous there.
I just want to have fun and a good time when playing.
I take all my game serious. Not only comp. But I’m pretty chill. Or I learned to stay chill, tbh…

The problem is that I love the competitive aspect of comp, and I don’t like how casual quick play is if I stop playing comp I think I just stop playing the game completely.

And I’m already feeling the frustration of the randomness of comp when everyone locks DPS and why is that? well because we have 5 DPS main in the team, this need to change and soon.

I like Quickplay, Arcade and Competitive. They’re all fun for different moods. The only reason I don’t play so much Competitive is because I never feel “allowed” to play the character whom I spend hours playing in other lobbies; Widowmaker.

I only play quick play and arcade too. Even on both of my accounts. My high level account got placed in silver in season five, and I gave up after a few more seasons. I might try comp on this account, but for now I’d rather stay away from competitive. Good luck to anyone trying to climb. <3

I spent a lot of time as a strict Quick Play person but I moved on to Competitive and don’t think I will ever be back to Quick Play. I’m a Bronze Forever and find that Bronze is actually a very comfortable place that is free of a lot of the toxicity but still has decent folks that use mics & coordinate somewhat.
