I don’t understand the new Overwatch 2 ranking system at all.
I got put into Silver V on my first ranking for healer, and got one rank up to Silver IV last week for healer. I just received ANOTHER rank up for healer (after 7 more wins, making 14 total) and it says I ranked up… to Silver IV? I’ve never de-ranked.
I don’t understand.

Its bugged, but its basically the same as overwatch 1, but without the numbers.
From what people have been saying, that played OW1. basically the system didn’t change, like Tsunder said. They said that you have to make a certain amount of SR to rank up. SR is a magic number you gain or lose when you win or lose a match. Supposedly you gain 350 points if you win 7 matches with 0 losses. I don’t know how true that is, but they explained that each win is 50 points and a lose is -50 points. To get out of say Bronze 5 which you need 1100 SR to do, would take winning 28 matches in a row no losses. as 21 matches is 1050 points 3 rank check, and 1 more rank check would set you at 1400 SR. Which apparently would put you around Bronze 2-3 roughly. They also said Bronze 5 is the hardest one to rank out of cause of the 1100SR needed, but the other ranks are supposedly 100points each. I imagine you earn less SR per match as you go up? But they same person also said that at the higher ranks it starts looking at your stats as well more than SR. I don’t know if any of its is true but by their numbers silver four is 1700 points so you would need 1800 points to rank to silver 3. I don’t know if it goes by stats and SR at that point or if you gain less per win. But they said basically that is how it used to work. Its impossible to see but you can kinda calculate based on that maybe. Other also say they if you aren’t ranking up that you are just playing bad and not getting the right stats. That you need to play a carry to win. So basically one trick Moria or something they say. Its an odd system but if you could see your SR at least you know what progress you are at. But again its just what other people have said :X.
Just keep winning but also some people lose a bunch and go up ranks also so I don’t know.
Deep Bronze 5 is a myth perpetuated by streamers. Official blog post about comp changes says all tiers are about 100SR, doesn’t mention B5 to be different in any way.
From the reddit AMA on June 22nd:
Answer from blizz_smercer:
The conversion of Skill Rating (SR) to the 5 new sub-tiers within the current Skill Tiers (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Master, Grandmaster) is straightforward. Each Skill Tier was previously 500 SR, and each of the new 5 sub-tiers correspond to what was 100 SR. So, if you were previously between 2000-2099 SR, you would be considered a Gold 5 player in the new system. If you achieved the Master tier with 3733 SR, you’d now be a Master 3 player.
Yeah, Bronze 5 is 1-1099.
The blog post was from September 28th. Clearly something changed in the months between or they’d have mentioned the difference.
I don’t think a lot of people understand how it works. I understood it as the 7 Wins threshold isn’t a guaranteed rank up, just the time that it does an adjustment, whether that be up or down.
If you lose 19 in a row and then go on a 7 win streak you aren’t getting ranked up.
There is a bug however where the adjustment screen will show you promoting from multiple tiers below what you queued as to a tier lower. In my case I was Gold 5 but my adjustment said it was from Silver 5 —> Silver 1. It should have said Gold 5 —> Silver 1 if I was being demoted.
I don’t see any reason Bronze 5 being 1-1099 would have changed, so if anyone started at rock bottom it’ll take them a long time to break out. The blog post just mentioned there was a placement bug dumping people in Bronze 5 and that they allegedly gave those people a boost to SR gains to help them get out fast.
I am speaking of this post that says “'Each division represents approximately a 100 SR range.”
The answer on reddit clarifying that Bronze 5 is 1-1099 was a follow-up question so I wouldn’t be shocked if they failed to mention it in their explanation a second time.
If you dice roll a doubles you get to advance in rank, if you don’t, you stay in bronze 5 jail.

But also people can win 7 in a row and stay bronze 5, then lose 20 in a row right after and rank up to silver 4. So the system seems kind of hard to track on what you are suppose to do. Simply winning isn’t the answer for some.
It’s real. I went on a 14 game win streak. Never left Bronze 5. At one point I was at 82% winrate with lucio after 26 games. Still Bronze 5.
