I just can’t seem to get better at this game. My aim on hitscan hovers at 30% and I keep encountering games where I get steam rolled. Getting steamrolled just makes me want to shut off the game as it’s completely unenjoyable to experience. I consistantly just can’t get better at tracking enemies either so as D.Va I frequently can’t even kill flankers before they kill me.
Maybe this game is not just for me. I really want to get better and enjoy Overwatch but it seems I can’t. It makes me sad.
I don’t get why the constant steam rolls. I think I have 1 win for every 2-3 losses at this point. I get losing but why is the loss always so badly lost? I have never have any closely won matches or closely lost matches. It’s always a steam roll for either my side or the other.
If matches were close then I wouldn’t feel so demotivated when I lose.
Fellow dva player, mess with your sens. I had this problem when I started maining her. I played on 20/20 sens (I know.) and even bumping it to 60/60 I still couldn’t seem to aim.
After lots of trial and error I now play 80/80 dual-zone with 90 aim smoothing and 15 ease-in, so I can track easily and make quick turns when needed. Highly recommend messing with sens. I also played around with the different aim styles, and used expo ramp for a bit, which I think is great for dva/tracer/anyone that needs to turn around quickly!
Be aware it will take a weekish of playing with a new sens before you’re used to it.
The nice thing about this game is that you don’t really have to be good at aiming to be good at the game. If you can’t play hitscan, don’t play hitscan? lol.
My experience with solo queue tank is that you need to counterpick the enemy tank every teamfight. If you stay on Dva its a throw. Especially vs a Zarya.
But even when diffing the enemy tank, if you’re unluck you got bad teammates and its unwinnable.
D Va doesn’t require aim, but she does require game-sense.
The best way to round out your game-sense, in my opinion, is to play Mystery Heroes for awhile.
It acquaints you with each heroes strengths/weaknesses.
This helps especially as a D.Va main, because knowing each other hero intimately gives you an idea of how to engage those heroes on D.Va.
Widow, for instance, is almost helpless against D.Va in 1v1, so if you catch a Widow positioned where you can take her on alone, Jet right into her face and hit E. Even if she tries to grapple away, your jets will catch you right back up.
D.Va vs D.Va is a mind-game of who times their DM and missiles better. I typically try to avoid this, though. There are better picks to go after. HOWEVER, when the enemy D.Va is demeched, slay her ASAP. No mercy.
Don’t waste too much time on Moira. Her Fade is on short enough cooldown (As well as ability to self-heal) to avoid you most of the time.
Hanzo is somewhat like Widow except you should be wary of Storm Arrow.
Again, if you play Mystery Heroes for awhile, you’ll learn things like this more and more.
You know what’s funny about this? Diving DPS complain when a tank peels to help the support. I had a guy flat-out yell and scream at me yesterday when I went to help two healers that were getting killed by a reaper. OW NEEDS 2 TANKS
Just load up Aim Labs, Kovaaks, or some specialized Workshop mode. Maybe grind some deathmatch.
Also investigate your PC settings, to make sure there’s not something messing with you, from a hardware/software perspective.
Heck, I’m even really particular about putting a loop in my mouse cable, and then putting a paperweight on the other side.
And just general mouse DPI / Sensitivity, and disabling any sort of Mouse Acceleration Smoothing.
Here’s a bunch of settings to change:
under Video, turn off “dynamic render scale” (this has helped make my aim more consistent)
under Video>Graphics Quality, turn off: dynamic reflections, ambient occlusion, and local reflections, turn Damage FX to Low, and Refraction Quality to low.
under Gameplay, enable high precision mouse input
under Accessibility: Turn Camera shake to Reduced, and HUD shake to Off
Under Sound: Audio Mix = Night Mode (And maybe turn on Dolby Atmos)
