I hate playing with Hammond, i hate playing against him.
He either feeds, or is horribly obnoxious.
Pushes you around, boops you of, slams on you, can have absurd damage, mobility, damage.
Goes through your team and runs away.
Spins and stalls on points like no other character…
Doesn’t protect his team and does his own thing.
Feeds ult charge to the enemy
Honestly feels like he does more for the enemy team than for his own team
A really selfish hero in a tank slot.
The only real CC that can counter him is Sombra and as much as i love playing Sombra, i really dont feel like switching to her every time i see that giant rat.
A Good ball does not feed enemy teams tons of ult charge. Also, shield does not feed ult charge.
Spins and stalls on a point forever? What rank is this, silver?
Does his own thing and does not assist? I disagree. He distracts, causes chaos, splits teams up, and can peel. Def not a Selfish hero especially when the enemy team has hardly any CC.
Oh yea, CC hard counters him.
I just feel like there is a lot of bias here on this.
Presumably this person is playing at plat or below. The thing is, if the Ball you’re playing with is the same rank as you then it’s likely they’re contributing as much as anyone else on that team assuming they didn’t pick him just randomly with no experience on him before that point. I think either a Ball’s mistakes are just more obvious and so people assume the Ball player is worse or it’s that some people are just less comfortable playing with a Ball compared to say a Rein that makes them hyperfocus on the Ball and notice his mistakes even if in actuality a Rein might make just as many.
This, but only when they’re good.
I mean, there are definitely those feeding Ball players, but the good ones are able to disrupt the enemy team and hinder their efforts to effectively push/defend.
Ball is the most fun hero in the game to play. He’s also really hard to get started with because he has a learning curve. But he’s honestly balanced. He takes skill and can be easily shut down.
I play Ball as much as possible when Tanking for pugs. He is self-reliant, rarely needs healing but can help charge friendly support ults during downtime, doesn’t charge enemy ults very much when aggroing and has excellent escape abilities, and his ult is great at zoning out the enemy team.
Rarely needs healing, lol. Tell that to the ball players that book it to the enemy and allow them to eat through his shield health and 90% of their HP and spam “I need healing” while other characters are in the middle of a fire fight.
You’re repeating yourself. And all except the “absurd damage” part is basically just a description of what ball does. He is a disruption tank. That’s how you disrupt.
… again… this is what he does… ok sure…
He tanks and plays uniquely yes…
Sounds like a Bad Ball player. Wrecking ball can peel nearly across the map.
Funny how many threads ask for the "doesn’t give ult charge " to be taken off his shields because “he takes so much damage but gives no ult”. Again… bad ball players feed, but so do bad tanks in general.
Sounds like you had some really bad ball players in a row and are just ranting on the forums now.
Other CC that work REALLY well on him: Junks trap, Hogs hook, Mei’s walls and freeze, Ana’s sleep, Mccrees Flashbang.
If you’re depending on the one CC that renders him next to helpless for 5 seconds, you may have a different problem then just ball.
In Diamond, this aint true. Balls explode instantly or feed a lot of ult charge if the ball player makes a mistake or gets hard cced. A team will suck him dry and maybe even kill him on his first attempt.
You know what you either learn really fast as Ball or forever make your own team mad?
Don’t try to “bowling ball” a team with all their cooldowns up. That first attempt that you can make before ANYONE else gets to the front line to help you? … just … DON’T. You’re gonna die.
Pushes you around, boops you of, slams on you, can have absurd damage, mobility, damage. <-- Good Ball. DMG isn’t that absurd though, by what comparison?
Goes through your team and runs away. ??? Good thing you have: stuns, boops, walls, freezes, hooks, pulls, bashes, high close prox dmg, charge
Spins and stalls on points like no other character… <— Truthfully, annoying. Unstoppable? See list above. Also, aim. The good thing about circles is, they end up in the same spot/path and are predictable.
Doesn’t protect his team and does his own thing. <— bad ball, but also probably bad your team for not enabling
Feeds ult charge to the enemy <— Depends on synergy; no bubble? No other shield? Bad ball running into counter-comp team?
Honestly feels like he does more for the enemy team than for his own team <— Bad ball
A really selfish hero in a tank slot. <— Untrue, and entitled just saying it. Try enabling him.
So, with all my bold points, I feel like I need to say, somehow you have managed to list both elements from good Ball players, probably the ones you’ve fought, as well as bad Ball players, probably ones on your team, and tried to make some kind of cohesive point with them to paint an overall picture of the character that justifies your disjointed opinion.
It sounds more like you dislike fighting good players/Balls, and hate having Bad players/Balls on your team.
Let’s be honest about it, no?
A number of things listed are solved by the same means, and are barely even note worthy… but no, you don’t wanna swap to help. Instead, you list an amalgamation of opinions, each of them likely rooted in mismatched circumstances or perspectives, to, and I reiterate, create an image of Ball that is not born of consistency; what you’re writing about and complaining about is a variety of players. not Ball himself.
To be blunt, you probably shouldn’t list Mei’s freeze or wall on that. If Wrecking Ball grabs the payload or a pillar on an objective point, Mei can’t really stop him. He won’t freeze before he’s on the far side and it falls off, and walling him just means he bounces off and spins the other direction. Mei USED to be able to do something about him, but Blizzard gutted her ability to slow specifically so that she couldn’t actually stop him.
I understand that, but I feel you’re also maybe looking at it in a 1v1 perspective. Wall stop doesn’t really = bounce back at full momentum, he slows/stops/changes direction = time to focus + freeze + additional cc/focus fire.
Mei does deserve to be on the list, regardless if she is meta or not. It’s the circumstance wall opens up, and freeze as a follow up. Like you said, having 1 solid button = stopping Ball completely full on to death doesn’t exist in any circumstance. I don’t think any tank has that, excluding environmental.
Point is, she has an effect, and a large one, and even more so on specific maps/points. If we’re going to make up a scenario where Ball is strong, we have to acknowledge the other circumstances where he is hindered and not exclude them.
