I skip some maps during assembly, but always played Gibraltar. But today, after having it a couple of times on attack, I realised it’s a terrible map for attacking.
You come out of spawn and defense has high-ground advantage, you go up the hill and they have high-ground advantage, the door closes after capturing 1st and it’s a terrible situation for attack if they die while the cart is in that next chamber as they have to come through a choice of narrow openings into a defense which will all be on high-ground, then you go up a little hill and defense can be high-ground again (although this bit is more fair), then for 3rd point they have high-ground left, right and back and attack has none.
It’s constant defender advantage, and where most of the high-ground is, attack is approaching it through chokes.
I tried to recall a fun attack game, and I really couldn’t remember any that weren’t stomps. No fun ones.
Map added to my skip list.

Another example of how maps with infinite highground and excessive sightlines are never fun.

Attacking into that 2nd area with the shuttle can be an absolute nightmare.

Just seeing the name “Gibraltar” made me realize how long it’s been since I’ve had a game on that map. Like at least a month or more, it’s crazy, and I play every day.

Second point is my gripe with Gibraltar as well. Those chokes are brutal to get through if the enemy has long range DPS that can sit on top of the plane and spam for free. The “flank” on that point is a joke.

Can I have your luck? I really dislike Gibraltar as a map.
I think it’s nice players are realizing how badly designed a lot of the maps are. so many of them just heavily favored one playstyle over another.
The 3rd point is the only point of the map i struggle with. That turn with the walkway over the road and high ground on right is the worst bit.
Back in the beginning, maps were designed to be good for different heroes. And different areas good for different heroes.
Also 2 tanks. A more stationary tank would escort the payload, while a more mobile tank like dva or winston could contest the high grounds at the same time.
Which is why old maps like numbani, dorado and gibraltar have felt a lot worse to play on during ow2 and have demanded reworks to fit into 5v5 better.

Yeah…how many stomps were there on 1st and 2nd point…
For enemy snipers or range dps that ship is a perfect spot. They just patrol those 2 entrances left and right from there and voila ( cause you literally have 2 doors right and left, one on top another down x2) everyone who enters them just vanishes

Gibraltar is only an issue if people on def are sweating.
Except the attacking team gets ample opportunities to go high ground themselves. You’re still pushing a choke which sucks but it’s not like pre rework dorado which didn’t even give attackers an opportunity to contest high ground at all.
Paraiso is much worse because the high ground is even higher and you have fewer opportunities to go high ground. The few opportunities you do have are also crazy chokes
