I need help please

Please help me. I have had no FPS experience before overwatch and my aim is not good. I really want to get better at it and I’m working hard to get there but everyday I come online it feels like my aim is getting worse. I don’t know what im doing wrong/if I’m doing something wrong. Can someone please answer some questions, which I cannot see the answer to anywhere on the web please. (dpi 800, 4 in-game; sens is not too high and I use arm aiming; i have 144hz monitor; playing ONLY tracking heroes)

  1. Should I have my elbow lying on something when arm aiming, like the desk or the arm rest
  2. Should I have my hand lying on the mouse(so that the whole wheight of the hand is completely on the mouse)?
  3. Should I have my wrist lying competely on the desk?
  4. Should I have my forearm on the desk
  5. How far should I have my arm up on my desk or is that personal preference?
  6. How far should I have my elbow away from my body or is that personal preference?
  7. In what situations exactly do I use my arm to aim and in which do I use my wrist, in the case of reactive tracking, do I use wrist or arm or both, what does everyone else do. Should I always use a combination of both?
  8. Does the distance between me and the monitor matter?
  9. How do the pros do it, i mean people who are really good at tracking like dafran, iddqd, kabaji, akm
  10. Am I overthinking it all?

And btw I know that aim comes with time and practice but i cannot focus on practicing because i also think that im getting held back by something, that im doing something wrong. If i know im doing everything right and its still not working, at least i know it will come with time

Yeah, I think it’s just time and practice. Also, if you worry about it too much, (IMO) your aim gets worse

Play as much as u can the improvement comes from alone than! Like most thinks in our lifes.

i lay my elbow on my leg and use like an elevated mousepad that is same height as keyboard

One hand should be down your … Just kidding.
How you position your hands and arms is just about comfort. But you want it in such a way it doesn’t restrict movement and you don’t start feeling pain.

Got one word for you: relax! Aiming in an FPS is subconscious and it happens naturally. Try to enjoy the game first so that you naturally get a feel for it, worry about finesse later.

Also don’t beat yourself up for having an off day. If you play in constant fear of aiming badly (which EVERYONE does from time to time) you’ll never relax enough for your natural reflexes to come out.

I’m not a pro gamer but I’ve played FPS for decades and always did better when I wasn’t thinking about it, easier said than done I realise!

Try playing a hero like Symmetra first. She is a good hero for easing you into the environment. Try not to jump onto a high aiming skill ceiling hero like mccree, widow, tracer, or genji.

Even though Sym can become very powerful, the controls and understanding are not difficult and is best to help you get started, not only learning game sense, but aiming as well.

For #10 yes. Just do what seems natural and comfortable. Playing dm is the best game mode to practice aim in. You get good tracking by playing tracking based heroes a lot.
