It’s probably my favorite new setting addition to the game. I don’t stream but people being toxic cause they recognize you is a thing and this helps.
Maybe they wouldn’t be toxic if they couldn’t say anything to you in the first place. Removing chat with the enemy is a much more effective way of preventing it.
It’s sad how nobody acknowledges this huge impact on the terrible reputation of the OW community. The weird thing is that Blizzard don’t seem to get it either, despite creating a convoluted and lore inaccurate language system for WoW to prevent the two factions from ever talking to each other. Why did those devs get it, to the point of saying that Forsaken and Blood Elves forgot Common and learned Orcish? But OW devs don’t get it. Despite in many cases being the exact same people.
Chat isn’t the toxic part. It’s people griefing gameplay brcause they recognize the names of people on either their team or other teams
The Heroes of the Storm team knew how awful your average Blizzard user is when it comes to multiplayer so they removed it from the start. The only complaint that game or any other game that removed it gets is from users complaining that they can’t trash talk or harass the other side. It’s why most users here are against the idea but they obviously won’t admit that part.
Can’t wait til they remove the option to see the real names of the players from your games. Literally zero benefit allowing players to know who they’re playing with and against except when adding as a friend.
I’m thankful for it too. It DEFINITELY feels like this kind of thing has happened to me in FFA Deathmatch before for whatever reason. That reason probably being that I don’t partake in throw parties, and am actually there to play. For the record, I’ve historically only played Brig there, and now Weaver, so it’s not for cheese pick reasons
Next time I’m in that situation, I think I’ll activate this and see if it helps
Mmm, I hadn’t thought about it, but maybe I’ll use it, actually. I don’t really get griefers, but this should prevent the super funny people who think adding a letter to the end of my name is some kind of new and revolutionary joke. Makes me want to go back to DarthWinston.
