I just made the switch to PC from console

Man, I am having some major difficulties, from finding the right sensitivity, to using my keyboard correctly, I am basically no better than a silver player right now lol.

I keep pressing wrong buttons… Shift feels weird to press with my pinky, aiming is a lot better though with a mouse, much more accuracy.

The fps and general performance is significantly better, everything feels much more smoother!

But the sens just feels way too high for some reason… If I lower it to 2 or 1 it feels too low, 3 or 4 feels too high, I don’t know what to do :stuck_out_tongue:

Can you guys share your settings with me? I’ll get used to it Ik, but what do you guys recommend for the time being so I don’t suck complete… You know lol.

800 DPI mouse with 7-8 sense (in OW) works for me.

If you’re having issues with the keyboard, do what i do and use a controller in the left hand for movement and skill keys. You just hold the left side with your thumb on the stick. Map the direction pad to whatever you want and use the push down on the stick as crouch is what I do. My mouse has 6 other buttons mapped other than left and right buttons. Best setup by far and offers amazing movement potential and won’t give you carpal tunnel or leaving you open to terrible misclick potential like using the keyboard will.

I never adjusted to keyboard because it was brand new to me (never played PC games before), and like you I just couldn’t keep my fingers where they needed to be, they’d drift a lot and get lost and hit the wrong keys, and also something about using three different fingers to move in 4 different directions was just so alien to my brain that no matter how much I tried I couldn’t get it. Especially since I spent my lifetime moving in all directions with just one finger on a controller. :skull:

So I gave up and just use my controller in my left hand to actually move my hero but my mouse in my right hand to actually aim and shoot, and once I figured out button mappings and played that way for a couple games, it felt much more natural and manageable than trying to learn two new things at the same time. Basically what JerBear said above me, except I did need an elite controller so I could map all the right hand buttons to the left hand side of the controller.

For the mouse you definitely want to get a high quality one that lets you program dpi settings. You can use those to find a more comfortable place, but just so you know, on PC you can click on the sens number and type anything in there, it’s not as restrictive as console where you have to pick a solid number, so if 3 feels too high and 2 feels too low, you don’t have to choose between 2 and 3, you can start with 2.10 then try 2.20 then 2.5 etc until something feels right.

You’ll get used to the mouse faster than the keyboard, but best of luck. I definitely plan to try learning keyboard at some point since it makes auxiliary commands possible, like pings and callouts and just typing in general, but since I’m still playing on my couch with just a mouse pad on the arm rest, it’s a little awkward.

Everyone has different settings and preferences. You just need to go into practice mode and adjust it until you can smoothly track targets while strafing and jumping around and while doing quicker flick shots to generally land where you intend.

All the sensitivities also have 2 decimal points you can use, just to make it harder for you :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Your mouse DPI and in game sensitivity gives you an eDPI number. Pros’ eDPIs range all over the place. You can change sensitivities per hero. Wheras you want a higher sensitivity for Rein, Ball, or Genji, you might want lower for Ashe or MCAss.

There’s different methods of aim, as well. Some people engage their whole arm while aiming the mouse (lower eDPI), some only use their wrist and lift the mouse more or less. Figure out which works best for you. If you have the space, training with whole arm is said to be more accurate for more people, but some do just fine with wrist, it’s your preference.

My suggestion is to change the ability keys to suit you, not just conform to what the keys are supposed to do. From a piano perspective, your pinky and ring fingers are the weakest in your hand, which is what we use for Shift and Ctrl. Find a configuration that feels good for you (and do yourself a huge favour by writing it down once you have it). I use the left Alt key instead of Q to Ult, it’s much better than fat fingering my ult when I don’t mean to.

That’s all the wisdom I have for you at the moment, best of luck on your new journey and congratulations on finally entering into civilization!!!

800 dpi 10 in game. JK. If you’re new to pc, this is the best advice I can give. IT WILL TAKE TIME. DOn’t be discouraged, I took a few days and weeks before I got used to it. FInd a sens relative to the hero you play, ie genji=high sens cass=medium. Get used to the sens, skipping around for sens isn’t going to help, copying other sens doesn’t help either. take time and find your balance.
