Idk what it is. When I started playing OW, I came from a traditional fps background so I forced Widow like every game and got to gm before I quit.
It took me sooo long to even try the role, but when I did it completely reignited my love for the game.
There’s just something that’s infinitely more enjoyable for me about helping someone do well over doing well yourself. As awesome as it feels getting picks and single handedly carrying a fight, it just feels better helping someone do the same thing. Nifty jumpshots have nothing on stopping that Doom from oneshotting your other support.
Like I have absolutely no idea what it is, it’s just so much more fun to support. This post has no real purpose I just wanted to put this out there.
i will always like damage over any other role but yea i do play support as a secondary role. tanking is the only thing i cant do unless i have too which is of course is doing it for priority passes. use to be a dva only tank doing it but recently i became a rein only tank for priority passes. one thing for sure it is PAINFUL and it feels like this…
DONT KNOW HOW YOU TANK MAINS DO IT, DAY IN AND DAY OUT… i thank you for being my tank and not having me do it
Most of my fun in overwatch is getting to just stay alive and keep shooting.
Die respawn Die respawn Die respawn as can happen in death match when momentum is against you.
Tactical shooters and BRs have way too much down time just running around collecting stuff waiting for something to happen or sitting out a long time.
Or just staying alive and denying burst kills as a tank because a person can’t just kill you in one random shot. They actually have to land several shots back to back to ever get rewarded with any sort of kill. Camping doesn’t work when TTK is really high.
i think this every time i HACK a tank as sombra. i mean i have to if i want to be useful but yea hacking sigma, HAMMOND, rein, hog and even dva and ruining their day makes me feel bad but how else am i gonna win as sombra
Another thing OW can support in support category is unfettered mobility when you consider Mercy and Lucio. Rage Platformers like Meat Boy or Celeste are fun because a dose of speed.
For deathmatch to be fun you have to either really like the chaos even when getting stomped or be good enough to consistently carry.
Tac shooters and BRs require a certain level of investment in order to make the game fun beyond the downtime. If you can’t get invested, it’s hard to have fun.
Too add to what you said earlier, this is the magic of overwatch. It puts so many play styles together and it just… Works.
Every other shooter that is hero based is much more generic when it comes to the play styles between classes and heroes. Even paladins falls into this trap.
Don’t be silly, according to a large portion of the OW community you can’t win on Sombra at all
What’s funny is I usually take supportive roles in other games but not so much in OW. I think because support feels a bit to passive in OW1 for me. But I loved playing support in OW2. Less barriers and CC created more openings to do dmg and make more aggressive plays. I can see myself playing a lot more support in the future especially if fox girl continues this trend.
I haven’t formed a real opinion on support in 2 vs 1.
In 2, it feels like I don’t get as much out of my aggression.
However, in 1, it feels like you have to stop being a support if you want to be aggressive. Things like taking aggressive angles are awesome and all and you can take them more in OW1, but you can only really do that when you’re not needed as a support.
It feels like the dpsy and supporty roles of support are more merged rather than being as compartmentalized as they were in 1.
That’s just my experience though, maybe I play the game weird.
That being said I wasn’t able to pull out my pistol on Mercy as much in 2 so it’s LITERALLY unplayable.
I like being a team player, and support always felt like it’s the most team orientated. Though I do love Mei cause she’s basically a dps support (more than Sym is).
I think it’s the enjoyment of “zoning” and “controlling the tempo and direction” of the fight. As well as just not dying that often. Paired with, still getting your “kill stuff” fix.
Granted, that last part is more of a OW2 or earlier OW1 sort of thing.
There’s a reason I’ve been pushing for Tank changes for like… the last 3 years…
I feel you, I tend to play support more over dps. Dps is just less rewarding role, and it is carrying nothing nowadays, the weakest role, ngl. Playing support, you have way stronger utility in a first place. And the second, is that you are not carrying straightforward like dps, but you are carrying undercover. To understand what I say, imagine what would happen with your dps pick if you are carrying, there would be at least 2-3 counters just for you in the end, which makes your life miserable and forces you to switch or suffer. Not the case for a support, most of the time you’ve been ignored because you are not doing 3k in a row in a blink of an eye. Or they just don’t have time to focus you harder, because they need to deal with that dps guy instead, but not with the one who enables him for some reason.
I love posts like this, because all you see is how bad the role is, and how unfun and oppressive it is to play support. Like, people overlook how awesome it can feel to single-handedly prevent a team wipe.
Honestly, I’d rather get a 4k Pulse Bomb kill, not even gonna lie. BUT I can also acknowledge the definite awesomeness that is saving a teammate as well. I greatly enjoy both aspects.
