Is it me or gold became actually “better”, because when I watch gold and diamond I almost see nothing different, I mean, some good players are stuck in gold because they’re with trash player and they’re unlucky. I hate seeing poeople saying trash of the gold rank. I mean, I’m 2050 on console and I’m a flex and a diamond said I was pretty decent. So each season I struggle to gain rank but the game says well yes but actually no. I would like to finally be able to play without dpses that do 50 damage per game and 2 2 2 won’t solve that problem because yeah there will be only 2 dps but these two can be very bad which they are always except if I get help from a plat friend.
The issue is the distribution. They basically force people into ranks based on player count. Check out the PTR to see that in action to an extremely noticeable degree.
So, yeah, there are some diamond level players in plat. Some gold players in plat. And vice versa. Gold as a whole is not nearly on par with diamond. But you can easily run into skilled players in gold or trash players in diamond.
Honestly high ranking players get this bravado in their head like they are superior when really it just comes down to time spent. If your willing to grind out the comp ladder just about anyone can climb especially if you have a duo partner you synergize well with.
People hit top 500 once throw on the emblem and act like the thesaurus for overwatch knowledge.
Difference between gold and diamond can depend.
Some golds have very good aim, but they are inconsistent or have bad positioning.
Diamonds are more consistent, and probably have better game sense and positioning skills.
But everybody becomes better when the game gets older. Just how things are. In a few years plat will probably feel like masters.
But yeah, some people are stuck at a certain rank because of bad luck. Toxic teammates, internet issues, leavers, throwers, etc.
I don’t really care where it places me. I just try to improve before the next series of placements. Its the average improvement I’m looking for.
A high tide raises all ships or some such sense. I got carried to plat off of just trusting that brig was good, and it turned out she was a god on release.
I didn’t wait for someone to tell me I just knew I could play her well. Is that skill? Kinda. Not really important to my overall development and now we get to see how our individual skill in each role plays out.
Turns out I’m a better dps>support>tank and it just susses out that way.
I take note of this.
Gold Tanks are absolutely atrocious and have no gamesense or awareness. I’d say that’s the #1 factor in gold games.
I wouldn’t stress about rank tbh I got to diamond and after I did I was just kinda like… eh. I’d rather play ctf.
Gold is pretty fun and relaxing but the higher you rank up, the more people stress about their rank and talk throw out all kinds of toxic garbage and it really does become less fun especially if you’re a flex player. I’m going to start playing comp again when 2/2/2 comes but I wouldn’t stress about your rank rather just do well in the rank you are and stomp people the best you can and you’ll naturally rank up more as you learn better communication skills.
I just understood, sorry… Yeah that’s also another problem, plus the fact that most console players have 5 iq
Hey, I have six of these IQs you speak of.
I’m not really familiar with console play but I feel bad for gold players for how much spam they eat due to mediocre tanking (though some of it is just everyone regardless of role having poor positioning, which happens in plat too.) Gold Anas must have a field day with how easy it is to just chuck grenades at the enemy team while they’re trying to figure out how to move forward.
You’re superior… You’re the one !
Friend was a former Rein onetrick who hit diamond with him
Whenever he plays in gold he always has a massive rant about how unaware gold reins are LOL
Just because they have the mechanical skill doesnt mean they have the game sense or positioning needed
What.
Gold and diamond are same?
This. A lot of gold can probably 1v1 diamond in a place like aim arena no problem, but when there’s cover and map and team synergy all that into account, diamonds are more well rounded and consistent.
I disagree with this. Diamond and Gold is very different. Diamond people are now more mechanically strong, the games are faster, people die faster, the game sense is stronger, etc.
It is very easy to look at two games and think they are similar but actually playing in those ranks shows the big differences.
A big example I will point out is how scared tanks are in gold. Some even expect the DPS to make the space and go in first when in reality it’s up the tanks to lead the way and make the space for the DPS. (DPS makes space for healers and healers enable dps and tanks).
With this said I don’t play on console so maybe it is different on PC than on console.
Not really, they are there because they do not play better than gold players do.
Don’t forget you can have critical flaws in your overall value as a player that aren’t just skills. Having a terrible hero pool or refusing to swap would also hinder you.
I do agree that people don’t get stuck in ranks lower than they deserve though.
Every rank has gotten better actually. Gold players today play like diamond players did two years ago.
I’m diamond and I’ve been told many times by gm smurfs and top 500 that I play like a gm. The ranked system is just a mess. The game allows boosting with the 1000 sr group limit so there are a lot of boosted people playing in ranks they don’t belong. On top of that pretty much everyone has a smurf account these days. If you were able to see the actual skill level of all players in a gold game you would probably see that it’s a mix of everything from bronze up to gm. Carrying in overwatch doesn’t come from individual skill anymore, it comes from having a game plan and coordinating team work.
