I Have A Great Idea

Hear me out. Please.

90% of the games playerbase plays overwatch between the ranks of bronze and plat.
If 1 million people are playing overwatch, that means 900,000 of those are in bronze - plat.

As many of us well know, that is bastion territory. The character ruins the game. He isn’t fun to play with and he isn’t fun to play against. This one hero ruins the experience for 90% of the playerbase. It’s stupid.

Solution.

Remove bastion from the game.
Remove Torbjorn’s turret as an ability (auto aim is dumb in an fps)
Replace the turret as an ability with ONE gloop of lava. Maybe its damage ramps up the longer an enemy stands in it. Starts less dps than Ahe’s dynamite but increase over time.

Torb’s new ultimate - Bastion. He literally rides on top of Bastion (Orisa jousting gamemode style). The ultimate is Bastion in his tank form for x amount of seconds.

This is super doable. Overnight doable. Everything is already in game to make this change and it fixes so many problems for so many people. The in game match experience for the average player would be infintely better.

Spread the word.

You know, somehow, this is the best bait I’ve seen in a while. I bit pretty hard.

I like the energy, but this isn’t a very good idea. Mechanical aspects aside, you’d be screwing with two sets of OTP players in one fell swoop. You’d also be ruining the hot load jokes with Torbjorn’s current ultimate! Why would you want that?? :sob:

Mechanisms, though, you’ve got a midget with a projectile gun as his entire kit, and he’d occasionally turn into a lump of metal with a projectile cannon. What would that kind of kit do?? It’s essentially a tiny mccree with an easily-avoided wad of magma randomly placed in a spot on the floor instead of a flashbang or whatever. Mccree is already becoming the game’s Average Joe with no particular purpose or niche, especially being outshined by others who do his would-be specialty better across the board.

Torbjorn upgrading Bastion in an animated short, maybe? Sure. It’d be cute. Ruining two characters in the game? Maaaaaaaaaaaaybe not. :grimacing:

I’ve 1trick Torb to Masters and this change would be fun. The power of Torb is in his gun not his turret. His turret feels generic. At least his old turret players interacted with. Now you just throw it down and forget it.

Also this fits the lore of Torb finding Bastion and so for Bastion to be Torb’s turret it makes it more meaningful and keeps Bastion in the game a little.

Idc at all about the Bastion otp community. That is such a small number of people to the overall number of players the hero ruins the game for. How many people have quit OW because ranked is just Bastion being power boosted behind a shield.

Its braindead and kills a lot of the other brilliantly designed heroes. Who wants to play Genji or Tracer that take time and skill to learn when you’re getting buzzed down by bastion in silver.

This is how I know you’re not reaching masters. Bastion’s kit is not mechanically demanding, which means you cannot afford to be mindless with it. That’s the polar opposite of braindead! :joy:

And you’ve just lost one little bit of faith in the Torbjorn OTP group. It’s a good thing most of them aren’t so grumpy and stuck with tunnel vision.

Your arguing for Torb and Bastion mains, yeah?

Weird, but you do you.

this is definitely one of the greatest bait posts ever, but if your being fr, this is by far the worst idea i have ever seen absolutely anybody come up with

The problem with a Bastion is that he is a starter level hero. Torb, Moira, Orisa, Bastion. They are entry level heroes. They are basic in function to give brand new players the chance to not be completely overwhelmed and feel like they have a chance to compete. Blizzard themselves said this much. Problem is that Bastion get’s far too much value for far too little effort and time invested. The hero shouldn’t be getting picked at pro level as an entry hero. Nobody is going to learn a Tracer or Genji or Echo, when you can hit the Bastion button. It’s been a plague on OW for too many years. Killing it off would fix a lot of issues.

My thoughts exactly. :joy:

LMAO, if only things were this easy

Torb riding bastion sounds fun. But no.

Nither hero needs to be removed… they are free kills. Maybe not in super low rank but in plat? Or even high gold? Nah. They a wasted pick.

Torb turret is stationary. If u cant kill a stationary object… then maybe play legos?

And bastion is slow and his turret form has a cooldown. Bait it out then wait it out. Then pounce on that free kill too.

Most importantly-- stop standing in the open. If those heroes are the ones giving you trouble-- your position needs work. Let them teach you where to be and where not to be.

I love your preparation here

No. Just no.

This sounds like a blizzard dev explaining why bastion is ok for the game because on paper x y and z.

No.

Every player has experienced what i am describing. It isn’t that Bastion cant be countered, he can. It’s about that playing him is braindead and anybody can pick him up and default rank gold by just hitting buttons. Its a plague on the game and kills off better heroes Overwatch should be show casing instead of this crap.

More people should support it for the health of the game. The game isn’t what we see on twitch from streamers. That is not what random match in gold looks like. It’s an absolute mess and in large part because of these overtuned easy button heroes.

The value you get by just selecting Bastion or Torb vs any number of other heroes is crazy. If they are so much easier to play then they should not pump out insane damage that completely changes how an enemy team approaches the match. Bastion forces the game to be played a certain way. A boring way. Oh wait lets counter Bastion with our own Bastion. That’s even more fun. I know this scenario sounds so familiar to a huge chunk of the playerbase.

My final comment on this will be, Bastion and Torb are both played and used effectively at an OWL league level. The Boston Uprising, an all Korean team, mostly known for their great dive players, employ a Rein(shield), Bastion, Bap(lamp) comp. It often works.

The reason it works, usually against lesser teams, is because its a coordination check. If your team isnt crisp and clean that comp pounds.

That is at the league level. Peak OW.

bronze - plat 90% playerbase.

Do right Blizzard. Do better.

Some of this is gonna sound harsh… but please read it all cuz that isnt my intent.

Bastion is a low lvl hero. Blizzard has even admitted this.

Im a support main and i eat bastions and torb turrets for breakfast.

And nither bastion or torb are played at high levels. Because theyre garbage. The pick rates are available.

They are literally low level trainer heroes. There to do EXACTLY what i mentioned— in train you on position.

If you cant figure out why slow or even stationary guns are shooting you in the face constantly— it is 100% a you refusing to acknowledge your own faulty play problem.

Your position needs work. Your cooldown management needs work. Your ability to force resources out of the enemy team needs work. Your switching/countering needs work.

Im really not trying to go at you like this… but your being kinda narcissistic here.

As if theres nooooo chance you could possibly have it wrong. Even when higher ranked players are ALL OVER these forums saying the same as me. Even when years of stats say the same. Even when blizz themselves say the same.

Even your owl example is nuts. You found ONE low level obscure owl team that TRIES to employ that strategy----- ANDDD, You even admit it only works sometimes— and its against lesser teams. DO YOU EVEN LISTEN TO YOURSELF? youre legit arguing my point for me…

Even when you admit youre lower rank. Yet- somehow youre infallble? Cmon. You can keep as many silly rationalizations as youd like… but if you do- youll also keep losing to literall “learner heroes”

And yeah— many players deal with what youre talking about. I Freely admit that.

But some of us look at our own play and figure out what we can do better- and in turn climb to higher ranks…

and some people dont-- and choose to blame the game and their teammates and complain about it in forums. I bet you and them will have a blast when torb gets BUFFED in 2 days. They are literally buffing him to try and make him viable.
Thats a FACT.

I myself was stuck in silver in ow1 for quite a while. But i decided to start listening to the pros and top 500 players and GMs that told me exactly what im telling you now. And when i did i climbed out of metal ranks with absolute ease. YOU CAN DO IT too.

Im legit trying to help you— but ya need to get over yourself and just learn to play the game. It gets a lot more fun once you do. I really hope you can sort it out and lvl up. GL.

Forget everything you just said, but hear me out. Give Torb a passive that lets him ride his own turret. When he jumps on Turret it transforms some wheels on its legs and can roll around.

When he jumps, the turret acts like a bouncy pad so Torbjorn can jump to high ground like a Bap jump. Turret stays put on the floor where he jumped off it.

Well, it’s no wall climb, but it would work.

Gold and plat have 70% playerbase which means bronze is as small as 10%.

Gold plat players deal decently with turrets bastion.

So how about git gud and join the 70%

Or just put the turret as torbs backpack

No.
If he can’t get the wall climb he deserves, he should at least bounce funny. :rage:

I stopped reading after your first two sentences because it is blatantly false misinformation. Torb and Bastion both are picked quite often in GM.

Even despite you being competely wrong. Not only that. You are missing the point of my post entirely. You didn’t even read and comprehend my message.

This has nothing to do with high ranking games. This has everything to do with one hero ruining the game experience in bronze-plat matches for many many many players.

These players aren’t great players that understand the nuances of OW. What counters who etc.

I have almost assuredly peaked higher in SR than you. Which is somehow the post you’re trying to make here (get gud)

Even if I am not and hard stuck in gold forever it only illuminates my points.

You made no points and then proceeded to type off topic about things unrelated to this post.

Maybe sit the next one out.

To the guy above that said 70%. You are wrong too sir. It is 90% of ranked matches take place between the elos of bronze-plat. The extra % you are attributing to ranked is actually QP and Arcade players. So again, more misinformation from the get gud crowd. Well done fellas.

oh is that so explain to me why bastion is near dead last in performance metrics in all tier of play from bronze to GM? that doesn’t sound like anyone can pick him up to me.

Bastion is definitely not picked often at all second to last on pick rate (1.58%) and win rate is dead last (46.41%) for GM DPS

word are opinions but stats do not lie.

Side note GM bastion for 6 years

fun fact on the last day of OW1 pick rate of .36% & 35% win rate
