Everyone goes on about how they hate mei / doom etc but i genuinely hate widowmaker the space she creates just from being alive is crazy.
I’m a support player constantly tryna heal my team whilst staying hidden from a widowmaker like what do you do if ur dps does nothing about her either or none of your tanks dive her like ITS A FREE WIN shes so free i cant peek because im instantly dead but its actually crazy she can hard carry by herself unless our team has a widow or diving her.
Like people saying the problem with doom is he one shots with his punch which is true but he has to be up close for that to happen, widowmaker can just be at the other side of the map and still one shot unless your in cover.
I actually don’t know what to do against widowmakers and I’m GM so its like they never miss a damn shot at all. Its CRAZY if u ask me
LOL i don’t wanna come off as chipsa but i see his anger towards her
Yeah I agree.
She’s pretty horrendously designed. Playing behind corners and adad spamming all game like a game of hide n seek is NOT fun. Ashe is how widow SHOULD of been. Not to mention she sucks in low ranks, insanely strong in high ranks.
Ironically enough most issues that come from Widow (and any one-shot based character by extension) come from the way that supports are designed in this game. Supports are incredibly heal-centric in this game. Now one-shots interact with healing in such a way (read: ignore healing completely), that they only benefit from having supports both on their AND on the enemy team.
Firstly Widow benefits A LOT more than most other dps from having supports on her team, because lack of self-sustainability is her major weakness and supports cover that without much effort (like, half of the supports can even heal their Widow from across the map to full in a matter of seconds). Without supports backing her up, a Widow just gets dove or flanked all the time and there’s not a whole lot she can do about it.
Secondly, Widow also benefits a lot from the enemy having supports, because it makes her way of dealing damage more impactful relatively. As I said, one-shots are the only form of damage that outright ignore any amount of healing, so the more healing that gets thrown around, the more efficient one shots become compared to other forms of damage.
So yeah, the effectiveness of one-shot based characters is directly and indirectly tied to the impact that healing has on the game. And removing one shots won’t help with this. Overall health pools are too low that people will just find a new way to one-shot (or at least pile up enough burst that it has the same effect as a one-shot in practice).
Reminds me of when at launch you could block players (like avoid as teammate but worked against enemies also). There was this rediculously good Widow main who couldn’t get into any matches since everyone blocked them.
I dont mind playing against Widowmakers at my skill level but can get very frustrated with her since see seems to be a popular character of choice for people who want to feel cool stomping on lower ranks.
Now, you say you play in GM, I believe you, but you guys GMs should be the ones knowing how to counter her properly. At least in gold I usually don’t have a hard time against widows… I always switch to one of the million counters and it’s ok…
I hate her too. I just played a game on the final point of Havana on attack. She literally had a whole Sigma shield and a Mercy pocket on her the whole time. With how little cover that area has along with the fact that She was a high ranked platinum level player we couldn’t do much. Our healers kept getting picked off and when I tried to attack her, 76 was below to kill me.
Yes, agree with you. You’re always forced to play on a small section of the map and can never peak. You have to spend hours regrouping because every fight she picked someone off…
It also just feels so rng, the whole game depends on just one player and whether they hit the shots or not.
Ashe feels like how widow would be if she was well designed. (although, currently ashe is overtuned imo)
