I HATE the matchmaking on this game

The matchmaking on this game is the most ridiculous things i’ve ever seen. Its like “Oh he won a match, lets now put in his team the worst tank that is looking for a match”

Next match: Enemy tank 20/2, my tank 2/11, my score 11/4.

It just doesnt matter what i do, its a loss cause the matchmaking already decided that i can’t win the next one cause i just won the previous one.

It is so ridiculous that i had to give all of me to win the previous match to the next one i just get stomped and lose it cause my tank chooses Ram against Orisa and then never switches. The 50/50 is so obvious and tiring in this game and i cant believe someone really believes it doesnt exist.

Congrats Blizzard your matchmaking it the worst of all games

100% agree that match making is pure moldy toxic trash and its a stain on this company.

a smart idea would be to start a player at 25% below their skill rating for the day and work them up by 1.5% per match won.

but nope. its gotta start people out 65% higher than their mmr and skill rating and a person has to lose 16 matches before it tiers them down.

absolute pure garbage trash af stupid iq5000 design. and it has no player telemetry either. stupid garbage af system.

And the obvious flaw in the logic is too much….

How does that work? How is that fair for the people they play against? The matchmaking should detect your emotional frustration and know when to put certain players lower so that they can have wins against other players. Like do you even hear yourself talk? For you to get that others would in turn have to be your fodder. Like hello? That’s an actual manipulative matchmaking. :joy:

I’m mean having a statement as “you have the worst matchmaking in gaming” and your follow up argument to someone is “shill” it just goes to show your matchmaking opinion is flimsy at best.

I am not a fan of engagement based systems.

do you think the matchmaker is good at its job?

I do. It’s genuinely pretty good at what it’s supposed to do overall. It’s just that when it’s your turn to lose, well… It feels bad.

you really think i’ll waste my time with someone who says “Oh sO ThE mAtChMaKiNg sHoUlD KnOw wHAt hErO He wiLl plAy Hur Dur”

its not about that its about that player should not be in my game cause he clearly doesnt belong to that rank. I’m master 5 and i’m playing against diamond 4 players. its an ocean of difference. And when the game decides to put me with a way low ranked tank than the enemy team tank rank, its just a defeat already.

And to be honest i’m not even talking only about the games i lose but about the games i win also. I win a lot of games where the enemy team is TERRIBLE. They dont know what to do in the game, they dont have any game sense, i watch it in the replays. The MM must be trash for them too and maybe they are creating posts complaining about it either…

Me saying that my tank could not switch from Ram cause of Enemy Orisa its not about the hero the guy choose but he not even knowing that he should switch nor to what hero he should switch to. and guess what? i avoid this guy and in the next game he went against me again. i win the game easy with enemy team saying “tank diff” in general chat.

you seam to have knowledge in this field. what do you suggest they do to fix this issue?

The proposal is for the dev team to admit that their matchmaking is fermented diarrhea so they can actually start fixing it. All they do now is pretend that there is no problem.

I disagree and I don’t even need to make an observational anecdote.

I can just mention the fact that the matchmaker can make a game range from Diamond 3 to Plat 3 and anyone who plays the game knows that the skill difference of that range is enormous. By it’s own rules the matchmaker is trash.

I wish the matchmaking used a more narrow range as well so that there was less spoofing. But I am relatively certain ranks average out in those games regardless even if sometimes that creates a lopsided experience because let’s be real, there’s MASSIVE difference with a Platinum Genji being held back by their teammates (me) and their Platinum Torbjorn getting carried by their teammates. Most discrepancies are caused by player choice and their mental, however. It’s not always a chained king versus a boosted jester.

I think it’s limited in what it can do…and that the community as a whole loves to blame it for stuff that it’s not capable of doing or even responsible for in some cases

Like OP complaining that his tanks choice of hero was not a good one….thats not a matchmaking complaint…the matchmaker no longer plays a part in the hero select screen. That’s not something you fix barring like a pre match survey - is that really what people want?

In general my matches are decent (and no that doesn’t mean I don’t have bad match’s, or stomps, or streaks)

This is what they always do and have always done. Because they think if they admit they’re wrong then they’ll be exposed as idiots.

So again, Blizzard is making a conscious choice to make matches worse than they can be by allowing wide ranges of skill to exist in the same game. And to make it worse, it’s THEIR OWN DEFINITION OF SKILL - e.g. your rank. They’re saying that “we know your rank is Diamond 3 which is a higher skill than Platinum 3 by alot, but we are going to match you together”

So my point is that wider matches makes it worse. Period. Narrow ranges in skill make for better matchmaking and that is inarguable.

The matchmaker is by definition worse than it has to be and its deliberate. That’s truly garbage design when trying to make a matchmaker that makes good matches.

This.

You see such stark differences and 5v5 hinges on tanks (yada yada other roles have impact too yada yada)

There is no way that his is fun for either side. No matter if you get a win handed or a loose. The worst part: What you are saying is not an outlier and should reflect in the data Blizzard collects.
This then also means that they deem these games as “acceptable”, or have no answer to it.

Both options are damaging to the game in the long run

Seriously, anyone who defends this trash matchmaker needs to get permabanned. This mathmaker should be on the short list of worst things developers have done. I would if I was any other company blacklist anyone at Blizzard worked on this trash.

They can tighten them all they want…it’s not going to stop the complaints most people are making because a) they aren’t necessarily matchmaking complaints (as I pointed out about your tank selection thing) and b) even with tighter restrictions it doesn’t guarantee anything….

more similar SR doesn’t mean anything because it’s just a running average of recent results (not performance) you still have all the other things at play that also ruin matches - example

Comp has always had more restrictions and it has always received just as many complaints….the higher ranks have tighter restrictions than that and they get just as many complaints……the competitive scene where everybody has the same SR results in one sided matches all the time

The only thing you ensure by decreasing SR variance is that it’ll take the game longer to find matches for better “matches” MAYBE…that’s pretty much it

The simple fact is that the matchmaker will never live up to the expectations people have of it….

And no that’s not a defense, that’s just the reality of the mm’ing issue as it pertains to OW
