I just got THREATENED in every single way in a match and I’d love to know when blizzard is going to, idk, improve their filters or the bans for saying some threatening/triggering stuff in the text chat?
I’m triggered and it makes me sad to play this game like this.
Report- move on.
Especially if they were typing this nasty stuff in chat, with the new defense matrix policy, the chat is recorded.
You can also change the profanity filter in options.

Reporting doesn’t do anything if everyone else turns a blind eye on it.
And I don’t have the “profanity filter” appearing in my settings, so,
look harder then because there’s definitely one there
Report them if it’s really bad, block them if you simply don’t like them. In either case there’s no reason for you to keep reading their messages.
Just an FYI, but there is a fairly recent video from a well-known ow2 YouTube going around right now addressing this very issue (in part; it wasn’t the sole focus of the video). Apparently text chat reports CAN be quite effective. You can select the offensive chat in question, click on it, and issue a report that way, which makes it very easy for Defense Matrix ™ to issue a ruling within 24h on whether the behavior is actionable. It can comb through the selected text (it really helps if you direct your report towards a specific line of text as a reference point) and search for keywords or key phrases that may be actionable.
report them its all you can really do though i dont know if they even act on them
…social menu → block player. Takes 1 second if you know the hotkeys…?

I highly recommend just leaving chat in general. The game plays a lot better without people screeching at one another. The “what if people actually work together this time” sentiment is realistically never coming to fruition. Either way, I am sorry that happened to you regardless. People are strange.

Thank you for this! Sadly it doesn’t work like that for console players. All I can do is send blizzard screenshots of it tbh
Ahh interesting.
One would hope Defense Matrix could scrape text from images, but I can see that taking longer than sending a direct chat reference.
