I feel like dps is a pointless roll

kind of feels like with all the changes doing damage is everyone’s primary roll, healing and making space come second. supports are less relevant now due to healing nerfs and everyone having a regen passive. I hop on and q dps just to cross mapped by kunai wombo combo by a tank majority of the time i just feel helpless DIA rank btw. its lead me to think it should just be 3 tanks 3 supports. gameplay would probably be more balanced too.

Meanwhile, there’s too many DPS players, because the role is too popular.

There are literally heros who straight up will not die without the dps passive on them…

I don’t agree. Maybe today’s patch changes things, but I think Season 9 and Season 10 at least so far have been the seasons of DPS.

Early seasons (1-3) were tank driven and seasons like 4-8 were support focused.

Maybe tanks become the focus again with today’s patch and maybe they don’t. But as of right this second, the team with the best DPS wins most of the time.

i think i worded it wrong sorry. i meant as in if everyone’s goal is to do damage whats the point in dps when the other roles do just as well.

DPS still do it better. Supports can pump out numbers, but actually securing kills is harder for them in general.

People ask this question a lot and with characters like Baptiste I guess it’s hard for players to graso like the “Real” purpose, and Sigma also has huge damage.

But tanks can’t flank like dps can, they can’t burst people down like certain dps can, and they don’t have the dps passive.

Also they have the benefit of EXCLUSIVELY being there to deal damage yall don’t have to worry about healing or blocking off other damage sources (I mean like you can).

People don’t look far enough into what being a dps actually is that’s why you think all the other roles are equally, because sure on the surface it’s everyones job to do damage the term dps is just kind of mis leading.

But they have a job to do, as well as actually keeping the game balanced because we are NOT going back to goats again.

Well, the DPS role has the most consistent damage with the highest potential to secure kills.

Most tanks are threatening up close anywhere from 5-20 meters depending on the tank. But at mid-long range they are pretty ineffective.

Supports have to balance their damage output with healing output and utility usage. So, while they can do a lot of damage, it comes at a cost.

Damage heroes on the other hand are fully focused on just getting the kills for the most part. There’s some that are more utility focused like Sym. There’s some that are more mitigation focused like Mei. But in generally speaking you are playing most DPS heroes with the sole purpose of pressuring the enemy, peeling, and getting elims while the other roles have more responsibilities.

Oddly enough, there is another recent thread questioning why tanks feel like a pointless role when they get deleted just as fast as everyone else.

Yeah that’s how I see it too. I mean with the exception of Mercy’s golden era season 1. I don’t remember if they did the GA nerf season 2 or season 3, but season 1 was so fun
