I feel bad for the OW Devs

Because of what Blizz’s actions and the incident has caused over the past couple of days and with how people are trying to stop playing the games they made for a statement (which hey, more power to ya!) I guess in a way I feel kinda bad for the OW devs since they probably didn’t see this coming and are now sacred to even go to Blizzcon, being stuck in the middle of this. It isn’t the devs fault, but people canceling the pre orders for OW on switch or uninstalling makes me feel bad for the game they worked hard on (for the most part). Must really suck.

Goes to show you that your boss can just mess everything up for ya. That is life I guess.

I like how people are so livid and in need of “justice” that they’d actively try screwing over Blizzard, completely braindead, not considering that not every Blizzard employee was on board with this. Spoiler alert: A LOT AREN’T. STOP SCREWING BLIZZARD OUT OF MONEY, THERE ARE GOOD PEOPLE WHO DON’T WANNA BE LAID OFF. Then again, idk why I’d expect the Overwatch fandom to think or have any foresight whatsoever. I’m very upset with the punishment Blizzard gave out. It’s not even morally grey, it’s a cold black shut out of human rights and empathy. But I’m also not stupid and know that you get good people and bad people, good choices and bad choices in every business. From a business standpoint it very much makes sense what they did and it’s hard not to agree with it… To an extent. But cancelling my subscriptions and trying to hurt other people in a fit of self righteous anger? That’s not helping a single person in Hong Kong and I think a lot of people who wanna “cancel” Blizzard as a whole should be deeply ashamed of themselves.

It’s such a shame because it is a double edged sword. Either give money to Blizz for those not involved with this incident (devs etc.) so they get paid, along with the people that did this, further “helping them” with their ways since they are making money OR don’t give money to them so that way, they don’t receive anything even if it means the devs will not get paid despite making these amazing games for these corrupt people, to teach them a lesson.

It’s a legit hard left or right choice but yeah I see both ends so I am confused

I feel the same for the devs :frowning: I am thinking how awkward this Blizzcon is going to be for them, but I hope all goes well.

I am sure things like this happen all the time as it does with multi million/billion dollar companies, but being right around the time Blizzcon comes where the devs have to promote for the business? Oof.

30 or so employees walked out yesterday iirc. Those people will either get fired from Blizzard or find new jobs that better fit their values. When that happens all that will be left will be the people who let it happen and the people who agreed with Blizz’s decision. Those aren’t people I wish to give my money to.

Personally here’s how I see it. I paid for the game, I’m damn well gonna keep playing it. I don’t see me quitting impacting anyone but myself.

I played last night,
My friends list look about the same in size
the first time in a while where we had a 6 stack for about 12-15 games.
In conversation everyone seemed aware of the drama, no on had decided to delete their account.
Actually had a lot of fun playing, might say the most fin in a while.
Really was meant to be played 6 stacked.

I agree, but if only finding a job was that easy. Mind you, people have bills to pay and mouths to feed so walking out like that also will give great repercussions unless thought out. Those people walking out I hope have a back up plan to live with their parents or at most, have a second job that can stabilize them, otherwise? It can be rough. I personally, wouldn’t judge anybody that can’t leave because of these reasons since playing it smart while standing up for what you believe in is what is more logical and will help in the long run.

The result of everything that just happened is exactly why they put in clauses in their TOS about disrepute

I know everyone is pissed at blizz…but this is all happening because some kid opened his mouth in a place that wasn’t meant for that kind of stuff…

You’d more than likely be hard pressed to find someone at blizz who would say that Hong Kong is wrong…but that’s what everyone assumes they probably think now…

Plenty of studios are working on next Gen games with ps5 coming out next year. They’re sure to find something with how talented they are.

Some would say saving the company and all those jobs is more morally correct than letting the one player carry on and costing blizzard so much they would have to close the company down.

They had plenty of time to make some statements and share their opinions, they didnt, meaning they agree with the ruling/actions. So…

I hope so, but that will make the competition all the more rough  Again, nothing is certain in life so having back up measurements that need to be taken is necessary. When Blizzard fired all those people, so many were in disarray over it, fretting and being scared. I can only hope they found a job.

they all don’t agree. I don’t see why this has to affect the devs…

I’m just sad that this whole fiasco is making it harder to enjoy my fav games :frowning:
Not because I suddenly hate them, but because it just… killed the mood. I was excited for blizzcon, for the potential of OW2, but something bad just needed to happen, didn’t it.

I’m quite worried about the OW devs tbh. I’ve seen people bash them for no reason even though they weren’t even involved in this mess tbh. Quite sad to see.

Sometimes sacrifices have to be made to stand up for what you believe. If there weren’t people who did so, there’d still be slavery and women wouldn’t have the same rights.

Well it is not that easy to resign and go somewhere else.
As someone already said they have responsibilities but there’s also the fact that Overwatch is their creation. I’m sure they want to see it grow and develop and they surely don’t want to abandon the game and the playerbase.

Because a few people made a decision you do not agree with, you have to abandon everything you build from scratch otherwise you’re just like them. That’s not really fair either.

Most of all i’m worried about jeff as well. I hope he’s ok :frowning:

30 employees already made their stance. And businesses will find a way to fire people like this. But they did the right thing and the more Blizz digs this hole for themselves the quicker they will fall.
