good to know that you personally never expected anything because they never confirmed anything, but many other people did.
and i’m sorry for the english language doesn’t have a plural “you” other than “you”
i made a mistake by writing
what i meant by that was that “y’all” like to complain, i wasn’t directly talking about you personally. i admit my mistake and want to apologize, it sounded like a personal attack but that’s really not what i meant with that sentence.
I don’t understand why you’re saying this. I was only asking a question. Trying to “steelman” your point.
Agree to disagree. To me, they both look like humans wearing armour that resembles a dragon. So, dragoon.
All good, I understand.
I still wanna clarify something.
Even if it was fully confirmed that the skin would be dark, I wouldn’t complain because I feel the skin can be considered dark. And even if I didn’t consider that, I still wouldn’t complain because “dark” is a subjective term and I can’t blame Jeff for sharing his opinion.
I like the skin. There are also skins I do find horrible but its someone’s favorites. Different tastes.
And thank god we did not get an old british dragoneer skin
Like you said, it’s subjective. I personally don’t think it’s dark at all, it could rather be described as “badass” and even “cute” to some degree.
fair enough. like i said, i’m no final fantasy fan and don’t know what exactly a dragoon is for, what they’re doing, etc. if that’s the key point then sure, dragoon.
as people have said it’s supposed to be a costume after all, to celebrate the anniversary which could possibly why they went so soft on her.
i have literally no idea what that means.
Noun
steelman ( pluralsteelmen )
A steelworker
A stronger version of an argument that one is about to refute.
sarcasm, to some degree.
i replied to someone else who speculated about why people dislike the skin. the skin is literally being overshadowed, as they put it, by other mercy skins. my addition was simply that sym raised the bar too high with her skin, stating that if we get a dragon-esque skin for a different hero that doesn’t look close to sym’s skin, people will disregard it.
(Taken from wikipedia)
“The steel man argument (or steelmanning ) is the exact opposite of the straw man argument. The idea is to find the best form of the opponent’s argument to test opposing opinions.”
Yes, true masterpiece of art in my opinion aswell.
I just think that 90% of complaints would go away, if they would just put off that helmet of her’s. It just restricts the beautiful design of Mercy’s head in an unnecessary way!
i don’t even understand wikipedia articles in my native language but i think i have an idea of what it means. i don’t know what to respond at this point, though.
Not really hyped up like D.Va was but Jeff said about the Mercy skin before. It was better when they told nothing because no one got their hopes up too much.
To add on to this one that isn’t the only style of dragoon armor. Mercy’s may not be as “cool” or “edgy” or “dark” as that one but I think it is reminiscent of a design like this which is a bit softer.
Light and dark could be a metaphor for good and bad. You know, how she has the Valkyrie skins but also the Devil skins… the Dragoon skin represents a darker version of Mercy, rather than the lighter, more caring version.
As an artist, it’s always easier to critique someone else’s work. Kind of like the saying it’s always easier to use someone else’s money. The brunt of the work is done for you, so the only thing left to do is critique it.
I like the skin. Very well done. Everyone else needs to chill out.
I personally really like the skin helmet and all. It is so unique compared to the other skins she has i will definitely be using it. Artists aren’t immune from critiques but I’m seeing a lot of posts that aren’t constructive criticism but just straight up hate. Someone who says “I don’t like it because this could have been done better” are fine but the “wow bliz what an ugly skin. What a letdown” are super rude and unnecessary to the people/person who worked on it.
Hype just ruins things. I remember the D.Va skin that would “break the internet”. Actually seeing it, all I could think was, “…really?” even though the skin is pretty nice in it’s own right. Unfullfilled expectations are the number 1 killer for… pretty much anything.
A lot of people think they do, but then objective reality kicks them so hard they need therapeutic dogs brought in on campus to cope with their picture of the world bursting at seams.
It’s a mediocre skin: not great, not bad. The sound reaction of disappointment on the forum is wholly conditioned by exceedingly high expectations: Jeff stirred up the interest which lead folks to fantasise wildly, basing their guesses solely on the Dragoon name, and their hopes on fantastic art pieces.
But in all honesty, some of the critics of the skin is absolutely fair: the world of video games is full of fantastic examples of dragon armour, they are free to look at, learn from them. “Work. Harder.” (c) Sir Peter Weyland.
