Plats actually try and fill
Diamonds just insta lock whatever they want and never switch
I miss being in bronze where no one cares about winning
Plats will do anything to get out of plat, even play SHUDDERS tank or support.
I actually agree. It is crazy how many diamond players are worse than platinum players. It is no fun being there anyways, so I do not mind.
That is because most of us, myself included have this notion in our heads that comps will be easier to come by in Diamond. I mean I am literally trying to dps my way into Diamond so I can play support with teams who understand how to play with Supports.
Have you ever tried positioning properly as Ana in plat? It ain’t pretty, you pick a nice safe spot next to a health pack somewhere on high ground, meanwhile your team chases somebody in a tunnel where you can’t see them unless you follow them.
I tried (keyword tried) playing Ana in mid-plat earlier… so much healing needed, so few with LoS.
Diamond is where the mechanically skilled DPS one-tricks with no game sense end up if they play long enough, because they’re just that good at killing people with that one hero but not good enough at the game as a whole to climb higher.
Plat is full of people who are just above average without any particular dependency on a single hero.
Given the choice between the two, I’ll take the Plat flex over the Diamond Widow-only if I don’t know what kind of team I’m trying to build. But when I don’t have a choice, I’ll probably try to support the Diamond Widow because I know the senseless near-aimbot one-trick is going to get a whole lot of work done with the extra help to cover that lack of game sense.
Obviously these are stereotypical generalizations and I hope if you’re a Diamond Widow–particularly if you flex–that you are not offended. I’m just illustrating the value of specialization in Overwatch and how far it can probably get you in the ladder.
In actual comp, I think I was Diamond when Ana came out so… technically no. I’ve certainly tried in QP with a bunch of plats on my team, though, and I’ve done that plenty. There’s nearly always at least one person who has no concept of staying within line of sight of their healer.
When that happens you have two choices. You can chase them, putting yourself out of position to heal them and probably both die… or you can stay in a good position, point your reticle at them and press X (at least on PC) to use the game’s “come to me for healing” built-in comms function. And wait.
The hardest part of triage is recognizing the ones you can’t save.
I find diamonds fill more. But they are more prone to go toxic and throw.
Thats exactly is why I am holding onto my dream of escaping plat hell by dpsing just so I can play support. I love healing but it’s bad. Mercy needs her teammates to position properly to enable her, Ana needs them to maintain Los and Moira needs them to be grouped up but in plat all comps begin and end with 2/2/2 without working out the synergy. Please tell me that Diamond is better, if not what point is there to continue.
For once I agree with you.
Diamond is a VERY frustrating rank to be in because most people think they’re some sort of god because of that shiny badge while they’re really hardly playing better than Plat.
Too true I’ve been in a match where my team was down 3 only for our Widow to equalize and then our Hanzo killed a 4th.
I’ve noticed plats are terrible at dealing with Reaper. It’s literally a nightmare playing tank on my dps/tank account because no one helps you.
Being playing in Diamond for only a week or so and I’ve already disconnected my microphone so I won’t be tempted to talk to my teammates, everyone seems so quick to flame.
Other than that though, I like it. Never cared very much about comps and at least players are good on the heroes they instalock (tbh I’ve been instalocking more myself).
For me high plat-diamond is really tryhard and low-mid plat is more fun
