I drop below 100 fps, am i just badly bottlenecking?

So i sometimes even drop to 80fps after upgrading to RTX 3080 from gtx 1070 in OW.
I know that i’m a bit bottlenecked by my CPU but it seems… to much so i’m making this post if someone has any suggestions.
Other games run fine.

My setup
GPU: RTX 3080
CPU: Ryzen 5 2600x clocked to 4.1 Mhz
Ram: 2X8 gb DDR4 2666 Mhz
PSU: evga nex750b supernova (750w)
MOBO: tuf b450 gaming plus

I run the game in 1440p 165hz. On 1080p it runs fine but still around 200fps (which is low for this build)
Before upgrading from gtx 1070, i did not have this issue.

Well it is bottlenecking, but with that spec, CPU shouldn’t be the factor, try reinstalling latest Nvidia driver.

May I ask about the power supply and the motherboard info?

I found out in the task manager that there’s an option to disable some apps from opening when booting up the computer, see if you can turn off some since it saves massive and precious RAM, specially for us who only have 8GB

Your ram looks like an issue

When I upgraded my RAM to 16gb cl14 3200mhz I got the biggest boost to my FPS in this game. I had problems with drops too but with faster ram it’s now locked 250fps. It could be your RAM, however, I’ve read that some 3080 cards have problems with the power-supply. Maybe make a thread on the nvidia-subreddit and ask for help.

I think your PSU is too weak

It cant provide enough power so your new shiny 3080 works in power safe mode.

Ryzen can consume up to 360 watt as I remember, 3080 consumes little more than that. Then add other components, so Id blame your PSU, especially if its not a good one.

Or you messed with your CPU cooler installation, check both

Still think the PSU is the problem? PSU: evga nex750b supernova (750w), i know its not the newest but… should do the job no?
Worth mentioning is that both GPU and CPU go up to only around 50-60% usage when playing OW.
I can check the CPU fan but, doubt that’s the problem, temps are fine.

Calculating the wattage on EVGAs website gives me: 586w
With overclocked CPU: 686w

Something is wrong because with my 3080 at 1440p 144hz I can play at 144fps with ultra settings or I can switch to low settings and sit near 400fps

You are not going to be bottlenecking a 2600x at 1440p in overwatch

Are you using 2 x power connectors (6+2 pin) or 2 x 8 pin

With the 3080s a single cable from the psu is not enough

Yeah i wouldn’t think so either :D.
If i may ask, do you know what usage your CPU and GPU goes up to when playing?

2 cables 6+2 pin

wait… @orthrus you’re probably on to something here. I think it might actually be one cable that splits into 2X6+2… damn. Well,

Its pretty low, with my frame rate capped at 144fps its 50% GPU usage or so.

Not sure about the CPU. Chances are its a driver issue

I would check your temperatures of your cpu and gpu, download GPUZ and that will give you some good info under the sensors tab, you can then see what your system is doing while gaming

Yes , don’t use a daisy chain cable (1 cable splits into 2)

You need 2 separate. I would test that first and then see if that fixes it

yeah f’hell. I knew that before setting up the 3080 but then just magically found that cable already in the case and totally forgot about it. I’ll check that, will reply back later. Cheers mate.

edit:
Turns out it was not the case. Its 2 cables.

Here is a round of quickplay stats form MSI afterburner. Medium-low settings, 1440p, cpu usage = 30-40%, gpu usage 50-60%

Overwatch.exe benchmark completed, 101743 frames rendered in 649.625 s
Average framerate : 156.6 FPS
Minimum framerate : 105.3 FPS
Maximum framerate : 298.9 FPS
1% low framerate : 52.9 FPS
0.1% low framerate : 0.6 FPS

It has PCi 3.0 and some article’s pointed out that 3080 has performance decrease on it well around ~5%.

I’d say the weakest link in your system is RAM, but I wish you would tell me how other games perform previously with GTX 1070 and RTX 3080 (just curiosity maybe it’s Overwatch unready for this type of GPU yet)

16gb 2666mhz DDR4?

No he’s actually quite solid there.

OW likes fast ram, 1866mhz and higher will only yield better and better results.

It solved my issues, maybe it’s the PSU?

bro i have a Ryzen 3900x CPU and a Radeon 570 GPU, and I run the game at 200 FPS. Lower your graphics lol, i play on Low.

I saw a benchmark video regarding the PCI 3.0 VS 4.0 thing, and well its 2-3% usually. And even around 5% i wound not say its as bad as i’m having it right now in OW. Just played another game on Lijiang and averaged around 112 fps.

I don’t think it’s that much of an issue in other games.
Warzone on ultra 1440p gives avg 130fps
Battlefield 1 on ultra 1440p gives avg 115fps

Just get the feeling that something is really wrong somewhere with ow. In some windows, nvidia or game setting i mean

On GTX 1070 the other games performed way worse and OW way better.

Well what were you running before you upgraded, and what did you upgrade to?

Mine was 2666hz and I upgraded to 3200hz
