I don't understand only one thing about Zarya + Rein

If Zarya uses the “bubble” on Reinhardt, and the opponent shoots a corner of Rein’s shield … does zarya power up? I mean, does that blow count as protection that the bubble absorbs by fortifying Zarya?

today I had this impression, but I would like confirmation.

She only charges up if the bubble takes damage (and the bubble hitbox is extremely close to the visual bubble).

In the center the bubble extends through Reinhardt’s barrier and gets priority over it, but shooting the corners actually works.

Yes, hitting his shield charges the bubble

I’m sure that’ll clear things up OP

Yeah it’s been like that since launch. Why those two have always had great synergy together.

The counter tactic you have is that you can play with more vertical threats because you know they don’t have a tank that can deal with you from a distance.

Now, I’ve never gone and thoroughly tested this, but that sounds like bologna

The bubble simply is big enough to go through the center of Rein’s shield while he’s holding it up so shooting the shield head on will charge the Zarya. Or at least, that’s the most logical take on the situation.

^^ This is the correct reply.

Shooting his barrier does not give zarya charge. However, Zarya’s bubble is large enough to extend in front of his barrier so if you shoot the center you’re shooting the bubble, not Rein’s barrier. If you shoot the corners of Reins shield, Zarya gets no charge.

Her bubble really shouldn’t extend past the barrier… They should fix that.

Yeah, the proper reaction is to always clip the corner of the rein’s shield if you can to avoid Zarya trying stuff like that.

She should be using bubble when Reinhardt is swinging more so. Its free time for him to swing without damage and gets her zarya free charge since people have nothing to shoot except rein when his shield is down.

So, do the smart thing and clip the shield when you can to prevent her doing that stuff.

This is the correct answer and I just tested it for you to 100% confirm.

Fun fact, Sigma EBarrier and Earthshatter have some odd interactions based on placement and the floor.

Well, I don’t think they can really fix that without either a major redesign to the shape of Rein’s shield or a special exception to how the bubble is applied to Rein. Basically, it isn’t an easy fix.

It isn’t a necessary fix either since once you understand what’s happening then the issue is easily avoidable, and if you don’t avoid it at that point then the Zarya deserved the charge.
