The original classic was fine because it was nostalgia from the launch of the game. But what we’ve gotten so far are eras that most consider a stain on the games reputation. Moth meta and goats are considered by many to have been a negative experience so idk what’s the reason for making an event over it. Classic should bring happy memories, at least that’s my opinion. Like bringing back the pre launch beta version of the game. Maybe try out some possible scrapped iterations of new heroes. Stuff like that. Am I alone in thinking this?
They want to make people not like 6v6 so that way they dont have to implement it. There is no reason for them to implement each “memorable” meta when very few people liked these
The 6v6 with OW2 features is nuts. But they are sabotaging it.
Well they’re not going to put the same one up every time either
Its just something that was often requested and it gives them an opportunity to test 6v6 stuff (it’s not all about the format)
i like the modes! its fun to look back and try metas that were so memorable. i think even though metas like moth and goats had a negative reputation, they certainly bonded the community in how much they hated them. so its fun to get to try those metas again and play some really stupid silly games and laugh about how bad it used to be. that being said i like your ideas too
Can confirm; After actually playing the goats mode. Brig feels horrible but I also remember being a beast when it was current. So it feels really nice to go to current Brig, and feel so much freedom. And not be a complete black hole of fun for everyone else like she was then.
Don’t get me wrong, playing beta stuff could be fun. But this is about looking back and seeing what has changed. A lot.
I don’t see a purpose in them because it really is just, “let people play DPS Doomfist”.
They don’t even get the balance changes for the heroes that are included in that mode correct.
A bit off-topic but how do you super jump on mercy in OW classic? Was this “bug” introduced before this iteration of Overwatch? I’m pretty sure super jump used to be possible by holding Shift to guardian angel to an ally, and then pressing Ctrl or something.
I think its cool. Ive been having fun playing with 3 Tanks, Tanking away at a match.
I started playing OW in 2019 so this GOATs is all new to me!
But its nice having Wrecking Ball in Classic! Love that lil’ rollin’ Hampter.
This is all happening on OW2 engine where that was fixed. But they wanted to keep it, so it’s just baked into crouch (like the glitch was, at the very end of the dash, you crouch and get the jump)
Mercy is just not classic at all. Her wings are clipped.
I haven’t played OW2 since discovering it. Absolutely a step in the right direction
Hold control, then while holding it down almost immediately after hold shift, then let go and press space
I don’t know if it works, it didn’t in the mouth meta patch and I haven’t played Mercy yet.
I think it’s to mainly let people who didn’t suffer during those meta’s get a feel for what it was like and how the game has changed. Only problem is the builds aren’t exactly matching how the meta was at that moment so it’s kinda off.
I remember playing OW1, just completely in awe with Mercy mains doing the super jump. I thought it was some cheat code but then learned how to do it myself by accident while I was Mercy. I miss that ability…
That’s how I learned it. I saw someone messing up the crouch timing. And then I knew how to do it lol. I knew the jumps came from some kind of physics confusion , they pointed it out.
And if you knew anything about Halo 2 superjumps, it all just clicks.
I dont remember the Halo 2 superjumps
Super jump spots are where there’s a hole in the map pretty much(tiles colliding), and you just had to jump from a height that would put Mister Chief into the falling animation (jump from high enough) and you just crouch before hitting the ground. You fly better on the timing.
You can still find videos on it. And even the AI answer is pretty spot on. It’s called Halo 2 Super Bounce
It almost works the same way, but you don’t have to find weak points in the map to do it, since it was based on where her dash ended.
There are a bunch of players who started in OW2 and never experienced these old metas. While I personally think that beyond the OG re-release it’s a bit of wasted resources that could’ve gone somewhere else, I’m sure it’s exciting for people who didn’t play to experience a taste (although imperfect) of what it was like back then.
Huh! Im gonna have to look that up! Thanks!
What are they testing when putting out the goats meta patch though? Dps doom for the third time?
