I Don't Get The Devs Design Philosophy

They buffed Tracer back to 6, gave Reaper more DMG, and haven’t touched Freja/Sojourn/Orisa/Rammattra because…

If they can’t play on maps they’re good on it mitigates their overtuned kits by simply not existing on that map…like huh? Also, let’s not beat around the bush, Reaper is a little too good now, but he never needed more DMG, just more reliable spread. You could gut his DMG to like 90, but with a good spread he’d be viable against more than just tanks or other fat DPS.

Remember the Hog buff that happened in OW1 where he did TOO much DMG, but then they reverted it but made him pull targets closer with hook? WOW SUDDENLY HE WAS MORE CONSISTENT AND DIDNT HAVE TO BE NUMBER BUFFED! BUT THEN THEY REVERTED IT AGAIN ANYWAY CAUSE IT’S ROADHOG… yeah, I remember

Digressing…this doesn’t change the fact that many kits/perks are still way too good or unfun to play against, and one-tricks ARE a thing, even with hero bans. Freja, Doomfist, Wrecking Ball, Sombra, Tracer, and Zarya almost always banned regardless of the map. Hilariously, map voting does diddly to determine who gets picked where or who gets banned

I CONSTANTLY see Zarya bans on maps she’s not even good in. Circuit Royale, Dorado, Junkertown? MISERABLE in 5v5, but managable in 6v6 with a dive tank, yet regardless still not optimal, when you could just be another diver to supplement

So, I just don’t get the idea behind their balance. They’re almost always THIS close to getting the right idea, but then just touch a number or two and then do nothing, leaving a character in an overtuned or still underwhelming state

Rivals balancing is infinitely worse, but at least they double down into their balancing being braindead bad/fun; (fun subjective). Overwatch just seems kinda wishy-washy on being competitive or catering to casuals but pleasing neither
