I Don’t Enjoy the Game Anymore, and That’s Starting to Hurt

I don’t really know how else to say it—Overwatch just isn’t fun for me anymore. I used to love this game. I’d log in excited to play, to learn new heroes, to coordinate with my team, to improve. But now? I feel a pit in my stomach when I open the game. I wouldn’t go so far as to say it ruins my day, but I do feel genuinely down and unmotivated after playing.

The only reason I’m even still logging in is to finish the battlepass, and even that feels more like a chore than a goal. I don’t feel satisfied when I complete challenges—I just feel relieved it’s over.

I’m not making this post to complain or to blame anyone. I just wanted to say something in case anyone else out there feels the same. Maybe we all need to take a break sometimes. Or maybe the game’s just not for me anymore. Either way, I miss how Overwatch used to make me feel.

My enjoyment of the game has drastically declined since S9 and perks. Then we have to deal with the stupidest balance team on earth and abomination rat heroes like Freja, and it compounds enough to just not make me want to boot up the game for weeks, often months

That’s often the case when people have played a game for a long time. It’s okay to take a break or just move on and spend your free time playing a different game, or a different activity/hobby that you enjoy.

I get that yeah. But i want to finish the pass first might as well. It just saddens me that it has come to this.

If you think you’re going to come back, and really like something in the bpass then fair enough. Otherwise, imo just do something you enjoy now. Whatever is in there isn’t worth the time for something you don’t enjoy.

the issue is the game isnt about community or fighting for a greater good anymore.

Terrible matchmaking exhausts you real quick.

It never was. If you look up some videos of 2016 OW then you can find some prime examples of jerks being jerks.

You sure do!

I partially feel you, but luckily the game is still fun for me from time to time. I do however take months-long breaks. Not something I used to do until S9, but it is what it is.

Play something else until you want to play Overwatch again. Don’t feel like you have to play to complete a chore. In the end what good is a skin to you if you won’t enjoy using it?

It’s one of these. There’s no reason to overthink it; we play games as a diversion, for fun and if Overwatch no longer provides this, then it’s time to move on. There’s a huge selection of other games and activities out there.

if it wasn’t for 6v6 I wouldn’t be launching the game anymore. :woman_shrugging:t3:

main anti fun addition is s9. Atleast they buffed my fav hero into playable again. So I take that.

I still think the game is great, and for me a lot of things have helped to revitalize it, like Stadium and the battle passes. I think the game could even potentially get better - especially if they bring back a lot of the things that were sort of abandoned from the original game. (PVE in general, Archives, Events.)

I can understand OP’s sentiments, since that’s pretty much how I feel about Fortnite now.

I started playing that in June 2022, and mostly played the game and kept up with all of the battle passes since then. The exceptions to that were the second season I played, (Ch3 S4, I wasn’t into that BP as much, though after the fact I could kind of kick myself because I sort of liked Bytes.) and then I left for a hefty chunk of Ch4 S4 and I’m happy I came back because that was a pretty good season - completely saved that chapter after the previous one ruined it with the wilds.

…And then in Ch5 S4 I completely lost interest with all of the Doctor Doom stuff, went away from the game for a couple of months… Came back literally the last day of the month-long rap season and bought the pass since I liked some of its skins - namely the newest Skye.

At first Chapter 6 felt like an improvement from Chapter 5, but it just isn’t feeling unique enough - it feels like pretty much the same thing over and over and over again.

It held my interest clear up until the first few weeks of the Star Wars season, and even though I’m not a big SW fan, I appreciated the all-blaster loot for its change of pace. But it lost my attention pretty quickly after I completed the main BP. I didn’t care much about the weekly changes they were making and stopped checking it out.

This super hero season is pretty much the same deal. It was fun for the first week or two, but hasn’t held my attention because it’s not different or unique enough. And even though I appreciate that these are original characters in the BP and not a bunch of Marvel-only characters again, or Marvel versions of FN characters, I still don’t care much about yet another faction of characters that are introduced for one season and then don’t have any connection to the story moving forward.

That game dropped the ball with story much worse than OW. And these big events they promote heavily are usually boring and samey, and never do anything interesting like they seemed to back before I started playing the game. Oh, and you usually don’t get to play most of them anyway because of full servers, or having other plans that day.

Same here. Just dont enjoys it anymore. Very shortly my problems:

  • matchmaker - probably biggest problem, joining into the game and having headlesschickens in my team or enemy? Roulette
  • Same old maps - too little good and enjoyable maps. New ones are all terrible designed
  • playing vs certain heroes - namely Dva, Genji, Pharmercy, Frejmercy, even win feels so bad, because you know you wasnt playing regular fps as you wish. You have to hide a lot, or play a style you dont like, like groupped very tight together etc.
  • long qeue times
  • Ignorance and arrogance from Blizzard
  • lack of in game communication due busted report system and players are scared
  • Too long time to adress balance problems

S9 was a huge step backwards in this game and it has yet to recover.

I just found the patch notes and want to highlight this set of abominations:

GENERAL

Developer Comments: Season 9 features changes to the fundamentals of Overwatch 2 gameplay that affect every hero. We’ve heard the community feedback around some gameplay pain points, and these changes are in response to many of those.

Most damage-dealing projectile sizes have been increased by a new global modifier added to their base size.

  • +0.05 meters for hitscan projectiles with a high rate of fire or spread (e.g., Tracer’s Pulse Pistols or Reaper’s Hellfire Shotguns).
  • +0.08 meters for hitscan projectiles that are more precise (e.g., Cassidy’s Peacekeeper or Soldier:76’s Heavy Pulse Rifle).
  • +0.05 meters for travel time projectiles that are shotguns or have a very high rate of fire (e.g., Roadhog’s Scrap Gun or Ramattra’s Void Accelerator).
  • +0.10 meters for travel time projectile with a speed greater than 50 meters per second (e.g., Zenyatta’s Destruction Orb).
  • +0.15 meters for travel time projectile with a speed less than or equal to 50 meters per second (e.g., Pharah’s Rocket Launcher).
  • Very large projectiles with a base size greater than 0.5 meters have been excluded from these increases (e.g., Orisa’s Energy Javelin or Reinhardt’s Fire Strike).

Hero combined HP (base health/armor/shields) increased by 15-25%.

  • 150-175 HP heroes increased by 25 HP.
  • 200-300 HP heroes increased by 50 HP.
  • 300+ HP (Tanks) increased by 75-100 HP.
  • Each hero’s precise health increases are listed in their patch notes below.

Ultimate Charge

  • All Ultimate ability costs increased by 10%.

Regenerative Passive for All Heroes

  • All heroes now regenerate 20 health per second after 5 seconds of not taking damage.

Support Role Passive

  • Now reduces the delay before regeneration begins by half (2.5 seconds).

Damage Role Passive

  • Reload speed bonus on elimination has been removed.
  • New role passive: Dealing damage reduces enemy healing received by 20% for 2 seconds.

Quick Melee

  • Damage increased from 30 to 40.

Its like eating pizza everyday, great for the first few days, but soon you get sick of it. it normal to feel burned take a fast from the game for a good month or so and come back see if that fixes it, if no then maybe its time to find a new game.

Breaks aren’t a bad thing for games. You play a game a lot especially multiplayer games they will start the wear on you. Take a month or two off. Play games you have missed out on and then just come back I a a couple seasons. Don’t be sad about it sometimes that’s all it takes to get back into a game.
