They should have reworked her to be like Ying from Paladins.
She creates illusions that heal teammates, and she can give a small burst heal once every few seconds. Ying can also teleport between her illusions for a few seconds.
This lol. People have a point when they say the entire reason she was moved is because she wasn’t a healer, but that also coincided with Blizzard redefining what a Support was. Prior to that point, it wasn’t synonymous with Healer, and Symmetra (particularly 1.0) did have a number of Support-like characteristics, like granting Overshields and team utility via the Teleporter. Point being, it’s not like she was a complete mismatch in the Support role, or that she was so terribly far from being a modern Support that she couldn’t be reworked into one and still be recognizable
Also, it’s not like she’s really been excelling as a DPS. She’s been pretty crappy, and even when she did become sorta-good, she got nerfed pretty dang fast right after that. It’s not even like Symmetra players are largely happy with her, either–many want reverts or reworks, so I don’t see the value in digging in our heels on DPS Symmetra when it’s clearly not been working too well.
This is a revisionist take. While she wasn’t amazing during her time as a Support, she had a pretty strong niche that existed beyond “teleport the team out of spawn.” She was a pretty solid pick on 2CP and on certain KOTH maps. Outside of the brief period where the beam changes made Symm 3.0 actually rather strong, Symm 2.0 was generally a better hero because she had a defined niche in which she was strong.
As far as Symm 1.0, the game really didn’t exist long enough for people to well-define her before she got reworked.
Eh. I’d rather have them fix her dps potential. But that ain’t gonna happen lol, we saw what happened last time they tried - just overnerfed after small time of shine.
Hey you do know they can change game mechanics right. like if sym get pulled back to support it most likely would be with some sort of healing component. For instance healing turrets/ ult fire.
I just keep thinking how Sym 2.0 got zero changes before the Devs completely reworked her. 2.0 with throwable turrets/ hard light health packs/ current ULT and TP would have been really good.
Where is that stated? AFAIK Blizzard has made no commentary indicating that’s the case–if anything, their recent comments on trying to better define a niche for Genji with his over-the-top buffs indicate otherwise.
And she was plenty strong in her niche. The problem wasn’t that she wasn’t good in her niche, the problem was that she was abysmal outside her niche, which given the fairly limited scope of her niche meant that you had a hero who potentially had good value around 8-10% of the time and little value the other 90-92%. The rework tried to improve her value outside of that niche, but ultimately failed because A) it didn’t really do that, and B) it weakened her within her niche. Toss in that it seems like the devs were trying to remove overhealing other than Brigitte, and yeah, plenty of reason to rework her, but her being bad at her job wasn’t one of them.
They explicitly stated this in her rework announcement
Regardless,
If I make mercy lose dmg boost, give her ally shields, drop guardian angel in favor of a dash every six seconds…and give her a 65 heal beam on a resource…I don’t consider that mercy.
