I Dislike this new character and what it could foretell

It’s made me feel bad enough to make my first thread post on these forums.

The question is, do I hate him enough that I just want to utterly destroy him via gameplay?

Or do I hate him enough to drop this game entirely? Because this is approaching (if not already) a bridge too far.

The funny thing is, regardless as to what kind of role they would play, I didn’t like the idea of Hammond as a PC when he was thought of as an ape/monkey and I didn’t care for the Junkertown Queen either. But now…good Lord I wish it were the Junkertown Queen or another monkey.

I fear this game is turning into a Nintendo game, which is not what I and many others want to play when they think of Overwatch. We wanted fun and humor, but with lore, rich character development, and a world that had some meaning to it.

This…character, more than any other I feel threatens that. No matter how silly some of the other heroes looked, acted, etc. they never crossed the line where I could not conceivably believe in them as a hero; especially at first glance.

Mei’s Cryo-Freeze is BS, but it doesn’t take away from her as a believable character all around.

The Shiamada bro’s dragons are supernatural, which hints at mythology that we can be familiar with, even if we question it. They also help enhance their respective hero’s character.

The same is true for all the other heroes. They all possess something that makes them standout more that just your standard video game character.

And much of the futuristic technology in the game can at least be conceived as being plausible. And again, things like hard light tech and time travel are stretches, but they don’t detract from either Symmetra or Tracer’s character and as beings in the world they inhabit.

Human, Gorilla, or Omnic, from the first set of heroes to the later ones… Yes, even including Brigitte. They all not only have a part to play in the game, but in the greater lore. And everything, from the comics to gameplay and all else in between, there was this subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) reminder that there are serious matters afoot.

And all of a sudden now…we get the bastard child of a droideka from Star Wars with Hamtaro.

Sigh:weary:

Gah, I will give it a chance but the proverbial bar may be too high for this thing to even be tolerable. This is, of course, just my opinion. It may change. Things may not end up being so bad…by I have my fears and doubts. And I know I am not the only one by far.

One last point: I hope to all that is Holy, that it DOES NOT TALK!

Edit: Changed title, as after further thought I think I’ll only be able to hate it when I eventually interact with it. And word has gotten to me that it cannot talk but the MEKA can, so that helps in its favor. Also changed some misspellings.

He doesn’t talk but the MEKA do. And that sounds evil

Someone doesn’t actually play Nintendo games.

I should elaborate that, yes I don’t play Nintendo games. And I am aware that the Zelda games are more fleshed out and have some actual world and lore. But I find them all either too simplistic or fantastical to bother with them. Not a dig at them, just not my taste of game.

Even as a small kid, I was never enticed to play Mario, Kirby, etc. I tend to the more realistic looking and feeling type of games.

You are clearly still a child…just move on. This game isn’t for you.

So, the MEKA has a mind of it’s own and the hamster is just in control of it?

So, you don’t know that Mario has some of the most emotional plot lines in gaming.

And how is Overwatch particularly realistic? It’s a playable installment of The Incredibles.

It’s one thing to have certain tastes. But don’t overspeak on things you admittedly don’t know about.

I don’t care if he is a hamster or if the game is too arcade-ish or Nintendo like, but it does make me wonder if we will ever get a more traditional shooter type of hero, say another kind of McCree or Soldier or even Widow, as opposed to these gimmicky heroes they have released back to back.

Personally I am all for gimmicky heroes but it would be great if they made another simple, more traditional hero.

It may well not be anymore.

And it is not childish to have certain expectations of a game, particularly when said game fulfilled them before.

It’s childish when you expect, Overwatch of all games to be cool and realistic … and call Nintendo games simplistic… it’s a frame of mind a highschooler who cares too much on looking like a “grown up” does and loves Call of Duty games. Hell, you even play the edgelord characters… And how is a hammer who drives a mech that sounds like ED-209 not awesome… Doubt you were even old enough to know who ED-209 is.

okay, OW is deffo going downhill but let’s not do it dirty by comparing it to nintendo. nintendo is the DEFINITION of childish, stupid, and cringy. as much as i hate the new hero, OW will NEVER get close to the toddler demographic level that nintendo is on. at least i hope it won’t.

People like you are the reason profiles got privated, just so you know.

Back on topic, I have to admit I dislike the hamster too. For that matter, I dislike Winston but would convince myself otherwise because ‘hey future world, it could happen!’ but honestly this one is way harder to explain away. I’m big story person, as I mostly play RPGS, so i’m very ‘into’ the overwatch lore as it’s released. Super disappointed, but hey ‘is just game’.

Hmm what’s that?
A light hearted, fun character that’s just so crazy that it kind of works?

REMOVE THE FUN AT ONCE!

So the main take-away from this thread is, this game is becoming more like a Nintendo game and it should stop doing that?

Gotcha.

You mean there’s unrealistic things in a science fiction game? Gasp it’s almost like that’s the point of science fiction.

What are you some edgy 15 year old?

The amount of edge here could cut Superman

There’s more than one edge lord character? News to me. Maybe I am just too old to know what the new definition is these days, lol.

I actually know what an ED-209 is now, but when I first saw it I had no idea what it or what its name was. I was in diapers when ROBOCOP came out. Along with the Terminator, it was another movie I should NOT have seen when it first came out on TV.

Never cared for COD or Battlefield games either. Played them yes, but very briefly. Same with Fortnite. Lore and characters are more important to me than how many guns I can get or craft. I prefer games like the Witcher series and (until recently) Mass Effect.

I was actually reluctant to try Overwatch until a friend introduced me during a free weekend. It ended up having interesting characters and a fascinating lore…what has been shown to us at least.

The real crime here.

yeah it looks like a joke tbh

The overwatch lore is a hot mess garbage at times and will never outclass all the variable fan lore that has been created.
