I have had numerous people at tournaments say I belong in mid to high plat, I play primarily support/tank being moira, Ana, Mercy, Zarya, Orisa, I’m not a master I make no claim to be, I got to plat for the first time this season with great communication and positivity then I took a 4 loss streak, Figured it was a bad night, bad nights happen
Then I got right up to 2494 and I got a thrower, Dropped 20 SR, Then had a Leaver and dropped another 30, Eventually I got back up to 2496, And a thrower… Again… OK so maybe I was just unlucky.
But then it happened again, And again, And again, Every time I get to the promo match I will get an amazing round one, Then someone gets uber toxic and throws.
People say that the matchmaking system is rigged I thought it was all a lie and paranoid but… I’m starting to believe it, Every promo match something has gone catastrophicly wrong, Either a thrower or a leaver, Statistical improbability states that one should be on the other team instead of mine.
Just unlucky man. I’ve had this happen to me FIVE times in a row on another account. Five times I was 1 win away from ranking up, and something horrible happens.
Don’t give up, just keep at it
It’s getting incredibly hard to want to play the game given that this is consistently happening when even statistical improbability says it shouldn’t, Being forcefully kept in gold is getting quite honestly? Depressing and i’m depressed enough as is.
Gold is the absolute worst to climb out of. But here’s how I did it… now I’m diamond. Stop playing dps. Gold is massive instalock trash dps mains and if you want to climb out of hell you have to babysit them and their stupid plays with tank or heals. Pick tank or heals that are effective at both keeping team mates alive as well as getting elims. Suggestions: dva, Moira, zen, Winston. Dva and zen can both shutdown ults which is a huge benefit to your team.
You won’t believe what happens a few games after you get the promo to plat. Unless you are playing insanely well you will be on a loss streak that will make you a believer.
Hate to break it to you, but the people telling you you belong higher are being nice.
According to overbuff, your top played hero is in the 44th percentile. That’s 2350-2400, so you’re basically exactly where you belong when you play Moira. Your second most played is Zarya, with almost exactly the same playtime, and OB has you at 23rd percentile for her. That’s about 2000. Your Mei is just short of the time it needs to be ranked (and also almost identical to your Moira/Zarya playtime), but your hero score with her is about halfway between Moira/Zarya, so let’s call it 33rd percentile which is 2200.
With an almost evenly split playtime between a high-gold hero, a mid-gold hero, and a low-gold hero, you definitely do not belong in Plat right now and the matchmaker isn’t the one keeping you from it.
Personally, I know a lot of people who get really nervous and on edge when they get near the next rank, which makes them really harsh towards their teammates. Then their teammates play a lot worse/throw and it feels like they’re intentionally being matched with bad teammates.
…this happens at all levels of SR. Not just “promo” games. Just because you notice it the most when you’re looking for it, doesn’t mean the system is somehow rigged.
I’m sure when those games happen in the middle of your ranks, you just shrug it off as a bad game and move on. Probably completely forgetting about it. But when you’re about to rank up, all of a sudden “it happens every time!”
And if you are at your “promo” game, you realize that it’s likely that there is someone else on the other team also at their “promo” game, if not multiple people. And they are all winning that game.
I did too. My favorite conspiracy I came up with was a hidden buff slider. Like, how your team always manages to take the objective at 99 % overtime. However the buff slider worked, it would favor the losing team and increase until they took the point. Use your imagination! It’s a conspiracy! Then then J K came out and publicly announced there was no such thing. I found it hilarious.
Question! My most played, according to Overbuff, has been as high as 80th percentile, now sitting at 76th BUT, due to “deserved” loss streaks because I need to “git gud,” I’m sitting in the 2100s.
What, in your opinion should my rank be if I’m capable of posting stats consistent enough to rank me between 76th-80th percentiles of Rein players?
I would agree that Overbuff “rankings” are mostly innocuous. However, someone made an argument, using OB stats, to refute the OP’s claim of possibly being better than their rank so, I wanted them to apply that logic to my percentile ranking.
As for “plugging-in” my season rank so I can watch my percentile drop, I invite you to actually look at my page and note that I have my account linked. OB is tracking my 2200-ish SR and still rates me at the 76th percentile on Rein.
That leaves us to assume 76% of Rein players are currently maxed-out at 2200 SR and 80% of them maxed at 2511? Pretty disheartening, really.
Tanks are probably the least important roles when looking at stats. Your job is not to get good stats, it’s to make it easier for your team to win. So, if you’re sitting at high stats, but stuck in low gold, not a good sign.
For example, I could sit at a choke and soak up blocking damage stats…or I could actually do something useful and move in so my team can focus on kills. Do my stats suffer? Sure, but I win.
you cant be stuck on a rank unless you have less than 50% winrate
just look at your heroes winrate and check what heroes you perform bad with and stop playing them until you improve. play with the ones that got over 50% winrate and you’re gonna climb
Understood and, none of this is lost on me. The stats represented are an average that includes games where my highest possible impact means doing nothing other than standing in space, allowing my squishies to move without getting picked by the widow that we aren’t set-up to dive against. These averages include games where my largest value was stopping long, drawn-out contest phases and my damage was my best deterrent (games like this end in 30+ and up to 50 elims).
Again, someone else brought-up the OB stats and I wanted to see what their opinion was in regards to a main-hero who has stats that, ostensibly, should indicate a player capable of climbing.
At the end of the day, far too much rides on your team’s ability to perform well, and appropriately (ex gold damage, 40%+ accuracy on Tracer doesn’t mean anything if you’re dumping clips into a pocketed hog and never get key picks on supports) to say one person is to blame for their own inability to climb.
While trying to climb out of any elo, we get rubber-banded as we catch those that were above us and are on a downward slide for whatever reason (intentional throwing, bad day, washed-up, etc) . In theory, if you’re a player of higher caliber than you SR has you placed, you should climb but, in practice, we see that “luck of the draw” is more than capable of keeping players from progressing.
Well, okay.
Simply looking at some of your stats, they are better than mine for Quick play. My Rein score is 9k vs your 7k. That’s simply due to playing games at your season rating. It gives you a lower score on purpose. So what do we do? Use c0derwatch. I’ve already took the liberty of punching in your name, and it rates your Rein play @ 2829. You can read into how it figures out a rank on their website. I hope this helps you feel better about your Rein play. The site also gives tips on improving.
