I am AGAINST removing 2cp

And you don’t think they tried anything internally that didn’t make it live? They were just like, yea, let’s scrap all our work on this game mode and all the maps, easier than trying to make any changes to it.

if they had to resort to that…then they didnt try

Like a big map with 3 points for defenders to hold. Attackers can try to cap all 3 at the same time, or all 6 go to the same point.

I don’t like the sound of that at all.

The game starts off with both teams having to guess what the enemy will do. Will the enemy split up and defend multiple points, or stick together on one? If it’s the latter then that means there’ll be up to two undefended points which can be captured without resistance if the correct attack method is picked. So immediately it’s not about having the better players or composition, but whether you’re lucky enough to pick the opposite method from the enemy.

And then after the first fight it becomes a cat-and-mouse game of the attackers trying to get an advantage by going for an undefended point once the enemy is grouped up. Meaning longer periods of downtime where both teams are just running around between points without actually fighting.

If it’s the former then there’ll have to be unbalanced groups who won’t be prepared for most things. You can’t split 2 healers, 2 tanks and 2 damage into 3 balanced teams. And splitting up into smaller groups means you’ll be much less prepared to deal with the majority of heroes in the game.

Plus, teamwork is unreliable enough with a single objective. Giving players the choice between multiple objectives would be a mess. I think the main Overwatch formula is fine as it is. 6 players on each team going for the same objective. It’s simple and allows for players to cover each others weaknesses.

They are NOT removing the maps. They are updating them in order to fit in a brand new game mode. The maps will not stop existing out of nowhere. They are just not going to be 2cp maps. They can become push maps, or escort maps, or even regular control maps.

I think that comment from Jeff was way too vague for these kinds of speculations.
We’ve seen experiment attempts with 2cp already, I’m hoping they’ll find some replacement mode, or a way to salvage the maps. They could put a mirror on point B spawn or point A spawn and turn them into Push maps, for instance

From the OW AMA:

They’ve tried, but they can’t pull it off. And if they can’t pull it off, then I’m glad they’re going to pull the plug.

To actually fix the problems with 2CP they would have had to redesign every map and that’s hardly worthwhile if the outcome doesn’t guarantee people will like it

Or the more likely case; they did try, as they displayed with experimental, plus the internal testing they obviously did, and were not satisfied with the results, and after like 6 years they decided to scrap it.

I agree with this,

But removing 2 cp is q good change, I’m sorry. There is just too much wrong with it. And this is coming from someone who likes 2 cp.

I dont think 2CP was inherently bad. There were just maps which were bad. Personally, i really love Volskaya.

Jeff clarified, apparently:

It still rankles that this stuff has to be gleaned from some discord convo

Yeah, seriously. I can understand them getting tired of people posting angry replies, but if that’s the case, then post info in a sticky thread and lock it to keep the mob out. Or at least post it to a Reddit forum and let them handle any fallout.

Thats like almost a year ago

So? They still obviously tried to find a way of fixing 2CP but failed. I don’t want them wasting any more time on a lost cause.

SO they didnt try from then to now?

If they spent the previous three years trying to then maybe not, and I wouldn’t blame them.

I’m guessing existing 2CP maps will be reused for other modes (for example, we may see Hanamura become a Hybrid or Control map instead)

Maps are a part of balancing the game and being lucky in positioning is a thing.

I disagree, this type of map would be very beneficial to Symmetra and Torb. They would excel in their niche (zone control using deployable) role. Symmetra especially with infinite teleport.

I don’t see a problem with your description. Cat/mouse games are very fun, and that’s where skill expression will come through. I don’t want to play snowball games, win or lose. 2CP is very much a snowbally type of map, where attackers can easily cap both points if they can just overwhelm the opponents. There are no cat/mouse dances going on, at least not much. In almost every 2cp, its just big team fights. While that is fun, in 2cp it leads to snowballing.

At least with a lot of small 2v2 skirmishes across the map, you have opportunities to stop snowballing.

I think it’ll force smaller skirmishes across the map.

lolololol, they wont listen to you. A TON of people despise 2cp because of its choke holds that feel impossible to get through or if the defense team get rolled even when they are good
