The point is that if someone is going to leave, they’re going to leave. A 5 second “are you sure??” isn’t going to stop anyone. It just wastes time for literally no reason, and if someone is adamant about leaving right now, they’re just going to alt+f4.
All I see happen now is people are either alt+f4’ing, or they’re just standing there in the middle of a fight giving the enemy free ult charge for those 5 whole seconds.
It’s actually a big detriment to the team that has the person that’s leaving.

In which case, it is working as intended.
I think the people who are serial leavers of games don’t understand that from Blizzards point of view them quitting entirely is better for the game.
Player with rage issues: “If you keep this path up, I’ll quit and never play again”
Blizzard: “don’t threaten me with a good time”

Meaning you’re still going to cop a penalty.

Well since they implemented that leaver system i got 0 warnings and i leave/afk/wallride speed lucio few times a day. But as I report smurfs/soft aimbots or toxic text in chat i have ty window the next day
Don’t know if it’s actually working for afkers or how many reports the system needs to take action
What garbage? That people that are leaving at the first sign of having to struggle are finally getting punished?
If people are so simple-minded to believe that a match is declared over if there is a team wipe in the first 10 seconds of a match, why are you even playing games for? Nobody, and I mean nobody is winning every fight, let alone every round or match.
Glad that this is in place. Because let’s be real, even if the matchmaker was “perfect”, the people that quit before would still be lame enough to quit once things go south.

People that can’t stop leaving games whenever something doesn’t go their way genuinely think they’ll be missed once they’re locked out of QP… ?

The OW team specifically introduced these penalties to get rid of indecent players like you. It’s working as intended. You have two options :
- Improve your behavior and adapt
- Keep being a leaver and suffer the consequences
You moaning about it on these forums won’t change a thing.
Thanks again to the OW team that finally took a stand against leavers. It’s the one QOL improvement that’s been long overdue.

Stop villanizing and generalizing leavers. The unbalanced matches aren’t just chasing off ‘serial leavers’ but casuals / new players who don’t want to deal with the game locking them out after unfair matches.
Losing new players is not at all better for the game.

This is never a good excuse. Even if the matchmaking is bad now (which it is), it won’t be any different in the future since the game went F2P and lost a lot of players (which explains why it’s impossible to find more balanced queues while having quick queuing at the same time).
Let’s not forget that even before the F2P update in late 2022, many people were already leaving on purpose stating the matchmaking was bad or because they hated a specific game mode or map.
So let’s be honest for a second and acknowledge that there’s a portion of players that are disruptive and too immature to handle online multiplayer games which is why it is required to have rules and penalties on any game of the same genre.

The game was not this bad before, not even at the start of ow2 was it this bad. And if we’re going to be honest, focusing only on this ‘immature, disruptive’ portion of leavers completely ignores the problem. The game is in a bad state and imposing these leaver penalties encourages new players to go play more reliably fun games that won’t kick them out.
We went years without a penalty. If you really can’t stand leavers then maybe you should be the one not playing multiplayer games.

They don’t play the game in a real environment, that’s the problem.
That’s why they come up with half-baked changes that make the game look better on the outside in terms of statistics.
I’m sure they could publish a blog post today claiming that the number of players leaving a match early has gone down.
But they wouldn’t mention that the session length and the number of players have also decreased.
If they had played the game in a real environment, they would know that there is nothing worse than being held hostage for 15 minutes in a game you can’t win.
Experienced players often know this right from the start of a game. Especially in quickplay.
I’m not saying that leaving the team early in a competitive environment is good or warranted. But please take a look at the game, it’s not competitive!
Instead of introducing punishments for the matchmaker’s shortcomings, why not create more balanced teams? If that’s not possible, maybe they should stop calling anything in this game competitive except 1vs1 modes.

Yes, they finally seem to be starting to listen to suggestions from the community, and by community I mean the smart ones, not the whinnies crybabies.
It’s a step in the right direction, it won’t save the game, but at least it’s a win.

Yeah…i remember back in OW1 I didn’t even have an idea to leave matches, i would play all of those, maybe only leaving bad stomps but there were less of those? I still could get 1 shooted by widow, booped into water by lucio, vanished by zarya lazer but outcome still could be good
Now it’s just…the game changed, I got a lil bit older but 25% of matches feels like a total bruh
