Ball onetricks. I have seen several of them in my comp games and they get INSTANTLY offended the second you dare to ask for a swap. Just had one in my comp game where we were struggling to deal with the enemy Rein. We did not have a dive comp. Our DPS are shooting him and his rectangle as hard as they can but we can’t get past. Our Ball keeps rolling around doing absolutely nothing but feeding the enemy team ult charge.
One of our DPS says “after you ult could we maybe try swapping Ball?”. He ults in spawn and rolls back out. Never swaps.
I normally am one to stick up for Ball’s unique and skill expressive design but Ball one tricks are absolutely infuriating to play with. Might as well not have a tank if you’re not setting up any any picks on him.
as a tracer main, I love nothing more than a ball main that won’t swap.
Having anything with me in the backline is a blessing that doesn’t force me to play yet another match of dumb brainrotting poke war.
But as a dive tank main myself, I would never dare to ask my teammates to play tracer, I rather they stick with reaper and fail less.
People won’t suddenly be great at a different hero, and Imho it sucks when others ask you to swap but won’t ever even try to work with you.
I’m all for Ball, especially with Tracer, but when it’s not working, it’s not working.
If nobody on your team is running dive and your dives are just getting yourself killed while your team is trying to get past a Rein in a choke, it probably ain’t Ball time.
And he feels pretty terrible to play against too. He’s such a cool idea in concept but god damn… When it doesn’t work it is agonizing to have him for a tank.
To play against he’s basically an awareness check. I’d rather play against him than any dive tank tbh. Though part of that is because Winston and Dva are pretty disgusting right now.
When I support against him, I just lock in Moira and save my orb for when he tries to dive me. When I DPS, Junk or Sombra and keep an eye on the routes that they like to take.
He’s also a counter check. I can’t tell you how many games I’ve been on Brig having to spank him around and heal everyone he groundpounds on top of, and how many games I’ve had to beg my team to swap to Sombra or McCree against a Ball who just has free roam to run circles on us. Nasty stuff.
I dunno man. As someone who plays Ball a lot, it’s hard me to trust these posts out of context, because I always flash back to a game where I specifically picked Ball to deal with an enemy Widow that was just tearing us apart, and I spent the entire game sending her back to spawn. My team complained that I was “doing nothing” on Ball and when I told them I was dealing with the Widow, they replied “their Widow isn’t even doing anything”.
YEAH…BECAUSE I’M THE ONE DEALING WITH HER.
As if to emphasize my point, the instant I died, the Widow killed like 3 of us.
We ended up winning that game because one of the DPS was the only one who believed me and they swapped to Tracer to help me deal with the Widow. The rest of the team literally whined about the Ball pick the entire rest of the game…even after we won.
So yeah…I will never trust Ball complainers again unless I see it for myself.
Did a dps swap to bastion? If I see a ball tank at the start of the match on my team, I figure as a dps I will probably want to play some sort of off tank dps like bastion or mei. Then I guard the team and or push the line forward.
Nah. I was playing Brig. I was the closest thing we had to a frontline. Unfortunately even when we did break the Rein shield, he just got spammed by his healers until it was back up. And when we did finally push with our ults, the enemy team has farmed all theirs off of our Ball. Unlucky game.
