I’m a dungeon master. (D&D)

Not OW2 related, sorry. Working on my own D&D campaign. Guess you’d call it a home brew. :face_with_monocle:

Ooh, I’ve been a fan of RPGs recently! Though I won’t find the time to play again for the next while, because some damn exams are rolling around now.
By the way, Math comes first :skull:

You can do an ow related campaign, offer them an epic quest and fool them into finding a pan for old granny like in that quest from Witcher 3.

Just like pve for ow 2

You can always use the heroes as inspiration for npc’s.
Insane artificer? Junkrat.
Elusive old rouge spy/ranger, ana.
Over zealous town guard captain? Reinhardt.

Homebrewing an OW campaign sounds like a DREADFUL amount of work LOL. Don’t get me wrong, I think its AWESOME and would play it in a heartbeat, but man…you would have to come up with everyone’s “kits/spells”, enemies with their own HPs, strengths, weaknesses, abilities, etc…step by step questing locations…the list is so long XD Good luck to you

Which system? (I run a bunch of PF2e games, and play in a 5e game)

My background is in a lot of the old school systems which are not used as much now, gurps, merp, amber, slay industries, Nobilis, wishing engine, glitch, shadowrun, WOD, etc, etc, etc.

God help me, I even ran a rifts game for a while.

i never had the skill or creativity to be a dungeon master for dungeons and dragons but i remember way back in the early 90s a friend i had who did… his name was damien too. always found that name kind of odd and yea he was a bit odd lol…

still i was part of a nerd circle so…

Lol

Remember to try to keep you combats to 3-5 turns.

Buy some miniature one minute hour glasses, one for each player. If 60 seconds passes and they can’t decide what to do they pass their turn.

Character that’s literally just based on luck

5e I think? I bought a bunch of D&D core rule books, monster manual, dm’s guide etc, and I’m finally getting around to using them. I just start writing the campaign. It’s a fun hobby so far.

Obviously, the one true system. All the others are trash and designed to steal your money and ruin your fun.

Edition wars must be fought in every possible arena!!!

P.S. Rifts! Dang, you must be old.

World building has always been my favorite part. I have notebooks upon notebooks full of campaign notes. Almost 5% have seen use!

Just remember when you start running a game for friends, even dungeon masters who have been running games for decades still double check rules when they feel the need to.
So keep a rulebook close. And if a rule is confusing, dm has the final say, the book is just an assistant.

A calculator makes your life easier, and if you have a lot of enemies it’ll be easier if they all act on the same turn.

Don’t be too serious with it.
I once ran out of planned loot in a room so i said a box had some moth eaten cloth and a mouse.
A player wanted to grab the mouse, and as they passed the animal handling check they pocketed it.
Later they set the mouse free into a room full of kobolds, who i rolled intelligence saves for. The ones who failed were distracted so rolled perception at disadvantage as the group snuk through the room.

ive always been interested in playing D&D table top, but, i work so much and have such limited time to play, that i couldnt commit to a group.

i do like the story aspect of it though, where you are creating a story as you go. When i can, i like to watch the critical role videos…but they are so long lol…cant listen to one in one sitting so have to spread it out.

it takes a LOT of planning i would assume, and the ability to think on your feet as you never know what the players are going to throw at you. Plus, and this is just from watching mercer, but having to be able to come up with dialogue if one of your players decides to strike up a conversation with a random person on the street lol.

i was thinking about this…i know that its all on paper and in your mind, but, how cool would it be if there was a software out there where you could actually build your world…detailed and everything. You could zoom out and design your continents, then zoom in and place mountains and rivers and lakes, and then zoom in even more and build cities and stuff. of course that would take a huge amount of resources and processing power…but, hell, id do it even though i dont DM…just for the fun of doing it.

Oooh, a long time ago I posted a thread about what every hero would be in DnD…

But, I’ve no idea where it is in the depths of the forums now. XD
