Hypothetical: team hero swap timer

Okay, so we pretty much all hate counterwatch, which I define as “the feeling that it it is not just advantageous, but necessary, to counterpick the tank or team MVP.” We also understand that swapping to counter can be and is a strategic choice, but the frequency this happens is unhealthy or at the very least, frustrating and makes the mechanic not so fun

What if, instead of free swapping, after maybe a minute of the match teams only get one swap every so often? Then it’s like, oh well whose swap is gonna be the most effective? Should we be communicating about that?

I don’t like the idea of locking in heroes at the start like many other hero shooters, the nature of this game requires swapping, like in the event that one team starts with several counters to the other. So there’s a minute grace period where you can freely adjust, but then swapping becomes a sort of resource the team has to manage effectively to always have a new trick to pull out against the enemy, but not overwhelm them at once at the end of a game with a ton of counters or something frustrating like that

How would this affect the game for you?

The problem with swap timers is that whoever swaps first is likely to be at a disadvantage. Which basically means that swaps will feel like a precious resource like ults.

It will become like instances where a Zen will hokd on to transcendence for dragonblade. But instead people will hold their “swaps” until after an opponent swaps first.

All but guarantees the team with advantage keeps it.

Lock heroes at the start other than to heroes already selected. That allows people to swap but only to a mirror instead of to hard counters.

Every time you swap, ult charge builds 10% slower for you. Swap as much as you want, but take the hit when you do

Ok so like imagine that you are being countered right from the getgo. Then you swap so that you won’t be countered again, BUT SURPRISE the opponents now instead swap to counter your counter and start countering you again. You are then being stuck being countered and not being able to help the situation. And next time you’d have the chance to swap to counter your opponents’ counter, you get countered again because they will now be able to counter your counter’s counter again.

So no. Bad idea that doesn’t really help at all.
