Ok so here it is. I heard seagull say many times that some games are unwinable, others like mendo or kragie said it too, and i bet many people here would agree as well. So why nobody is writing about adding a surrender button? Whenever i write about surrender button it’s “but you can win the game in the last 10s” or “if you want to surrender that means you gave up”. Darn right i did give up with 5 dps and me on heal with 1 gold elim back in the good-ol-days. Or now same thing only we have double snipers with 1 gold elim with me on ana and zarya hog vs bastion comp. Winable? I don’t think so. and i would really like not to feel useless for the next 10 mins while i cant even switch to dps myself to practice flicks anymore.
So , can you win every game or are some games unwinable in your opinion guys?
ps: maybe if people didn’t have to feel like trashbags for 10mins straight , they wouldn’t be so toxic later but what do i know…
Another thing is blizz bias around no-skill characters. Why nobody sees that? Mei , doomfist, symm, torb, bastion, moira. Only if there is a huge outrage blizz nerfs things like brig or mercy? Mercy broken beyond recognition. Just give us 6 months and we will change her numbers. what? Same with brig.Zarya has a little too strong beam? Nerf next patch. These characters should not be in OWL or even in contenders. I want to see huge flicks , great tracking. MindF#$%ing games done by the tanks or insane sleep on nano blade. Not hold w+left-click to insta-win or lose. Why is cheese the strongest comp for last 6 months if not longer? It has it in its name , it’s cheese , it’s not skill. it is using cheap tactics to counter skill only cheap tactics are BETTER than skill. Just wtf happened with this game.
Because you dont know if game is winnable or not until you see defeat or victory. Stop having quitter mindset. People with quitter mindset are the worst in ow. Dont be like that.
Btw i actualy won some games i really thought were unwinnable at some point. I had eichenwadle game and we failed horribly in attack, we manage to get few % on point, that was all. I thought its done and we lost. We had full hold in defend. I was suprised.
The amount of games people win which were unwinable they can probably count on one hand.
The amount of time saved by surrendering on the other hand is probably uncountable.
Only issue is derankers will have a very very very fun time especially since the enemy cant reconize a group anymore so they might think its just a team having 2 off tanks, 2 off healers together with a bastion and a sym.
And jeah game is kind of skilless, although when youre playing cheese against cheese usually the ones with a bit more skill win but its still pretty stupid. Issue is at this point there is literally no way to easily fix that without completly breaking heroes to make them either utterly useless or op af. So were in the “we do some changes here and there and pray it actually does something” phase.
Because if you look at ow content creators theres nobody with a clear answer how to make like most heroes viable and promote skill instead of cheese. There are people who have certain opinions on specific heroes and how to break them one way or the other but nothing that would really fix anything in the long term. If we still only had the original roster from when the game came out everything would be a lot easier here.
I’m against a surrender button specifically because I don’t trust the judgement of randoms. In games like LoL, I see the surrender vote brought up almost constantly, for the slightest hiccup. All I can say is thank goodness it requires a majority vote…
they probably need this for 222 because it’s a miserably slow loss being unable to switch roles and make up for the bads in some slots that are lacking. i’ve never played more pointless 2nd games than since role que was implemented. Or consistently had a leaver(s) after the 1st game loss, which made the 2nd games pretty much unwinnable.
Things like this happens and it’s not Blizzard fault, it’s more like we don’t have to choice main tank ( which could be nice add, personally i play Rein 90% of times ), but “forching” to it is not solution, maybe matchmaker could check who probably will choice main tank by 90% change and who have one tricked Roadhog, place these to same team?
No, you can’t win 100% of games, nobody can, now or never. And what is point about Comp if you don’t lose ?
This will only makes smurfing easyer, even it will makes you feel better sometimes, it will makes someones games literally pointless. Lets say it like this : A Person have ~3000 Sr and he have 5 x Friends who also have ~3000 Sr. Now they will group as team and starts play. They will get a match and BAM all of them agree that it is time to surrender. All of them lose lets say 50Sr, due to surrender, and now they go as group in queue again and repeat that Surrender Button thing 50 times. And now all of them have ~500 Sr. Now can anyone think what next game will looks like when friend group of 6 with " 500 " Sr, also voice chat probably, will face 6 random solo queue persons who probably don’t even know how or where that mic should plug in. Are we having fun yet !?!?!?
Okay, i had to say that Doomfist can one shot ppl easy, but i think that you don’t know how that char should be played ? I don’t say that im Doomfist master, but point of that char is is lets say like in defence, get 1-2 picks and then LEAVE ALIVE and seek either own team healer or health pack. Im low tier player and only what i have seen is that Doomfist dive, kill one or two and then die by himself, imo this Doomfist player is like pointless…
And the end i want say, calm down, keep break between queues ( like 1-2 min before start look game again ) and dude, if you can’t relax while gaming then you should play less…
I am not a hypocrite. I do not believe in unwinnable games. It is just up to your team to pull through and usually your team sucks. So it gives the illusion that the game was unwinnable because they did not put their best foot forward.
Well that’s the thing, and I believe that when Seagull, Kragie and more say they couldn’t have won a game, they didn’t mean it while they were playing.
Games are only unwinnable retrospectively .
You always have a chance to win a game until it’s over that is true, but in the very last fight, if the enemy has better ult economy or does a huge unbeatable play - yeah, that makes it an unwinnable game.
So surrender button wouldn’t do anything.
You can be losing the entire game and in the last 6 seconds you pull a godly play or the stars align and you grav 6 people from behind pop dragon the enemy zen gets naded, so the enemy team was like “well, I didn’t see that coming that was unwinnable, gg”
Although I’m not gonna lie, there have been moments where i wished I had a surrender button to end the suffering. But still, I think it’s not fair or would ever be good or work.
Team morale is overlooked and very important in this game.
When guys like you press the surrender button 2 minutes into the game team morale is gone instantly - your winrate would drop considerably if they added this.
People who want surrender button should not be playing comp at all. I am too tired of people who say “gg” or “lose fast” because they are lazy to try to win actualy and get tilted after 2 lost fights or after enemy team push payload to the end? So what? We can do the same. We still have our round…
You brought up those names, yet, have you ever seen them stop trying? Knowing when a game is ‘unwinable’ aka hugely against your teams favors but still trying your best vs actually giving up are two completely different things.
When pros say ‘unwinnable’, it has more to do with actual chances than simply tilting/accusing your teammates of being trash. They don’t actually give up, it just means they have to try extremely hard to earn the otherwise ‘unwinable’ game.
In other games like MOBAS, having the option to surrender actually makes sense because snowballing stat wise (gold, kills, towers, creep, etc) actually matters. In OW, there is almost no point where things are ‘unwinable’.
So no, you’re taking streamer’s words in the wrong way. Putting a surrender button in OW will just be used as a form of toxicity.
I disagree, we also have surrender buttons in games like Rocket League, CS:GO and even hearthstone. Coming from that thinking the surrender buttons are useless there as well because in hearthstone “next card can win you game” , in RL it’s “but you can score 3 goals in 30s”(which i did a couple of times, comparing to almost infinite ammount of times i didn’t), in CS:GO 1 person can clutch the whole match for their whole team so my question to you is what is different in those games that they have such button and OW doesnt?
Leavers frustrate me enough, having a surrender option would frustrate me even more.
Imagine you get a game where everything just ‘clicks’ you are in the zone and have entered a ‘flow’ state. You dodge things before they come your direction, you are landing headshot after headshot, your team is just on fire, this is the reason you play Overwatch.
The enemy team is just as good as yours, but for some reason the stars have aligned that today is your day.
‘Match cancelled due to surrender’ pops up on your screen.
You are no longer in the zone, and it will likely days or weeks before you get that feeling again. All because someone who should never have been in competitive in the first place and doesn’t want to improve just ‘gave up’
What do you mean? If 1 team surrenders other gains SR. They give up , not cancel the match like when somebody leaves. All of these no surrender answers basically revolve around that you can always win the game and team morale but these can be easily fixed with basic rules like:
-no surrender before 1st round ends
-to surrender you need a vote of 5 people
Why should 1 white knight keep hostage 5 players that don’t want to play with each other anymore or get stomped like mad. Let’s say your team gave up and they all flame at eachother, some of them leave voice and dance in spawn and don’t say there are no games like that because they are quite frequent especially comparing to games with other unfair factors like botters for example. And then vote to surrender goes, 5 people want to quit the match, but you, you say “Guys, They full pushed the payload and still have 6 minutes to go in round 3, and we still have 1 min and can’t push point A on Numbani , while we wasted out ult 1 by 1, BUT WE CAN STILL WIN” How ridiculus does that sound man?

It has nothing to do about white knights? If that is your impression you clearly don’t understand what true competition is about, when there are stakes etc.
It is called not giving up, improving by playing better opponents, possibly stealing the win.
I know competitive isn’t a serious environment, but I would like to see (just as per many rl sports competitions or tournaments, teams or individual players fighting it out regardless).
I’d like to see that kind of competitive spirit in my games.
