Hurray! Vindication!

I recently posted about my account being banned for cheating. Well, I opened tickets and after further investigation, Blizzard has found that I was banned in error!

My account is now back in good standing.

Like all systems, the anti-cheat algorithm does make mistakes sometimes. While I am positive it does catch more actual cheaters than it does wrongfully ban innocents, it isn’t perfect.

Please be understanding. Some of us are truly innocent and come here looking for ways to get the mistake sorted out.

HUGE thanks to GM Marfarod for looking into this and sorting it out!

noice.

Sadly a majority of the people replying to a “falsly banned” post just say you are 100% guilty because “why else would you be banned”. when theres suddenly a few dozen posts about false bans you’d think there is something wrong with the system

Now this makes me wonder about all the posts from this week, how many of them were false bans?

my guess would be a good 90%+, I assume people who actually cheat will just get a new account and continue cheating rather than to make a ticket

thats cool glad you were able to get your account back. i had this happen to me like 5 years ago on wow, played that game for about 14 years and i was compromised/hacked once. i never used an authenticator beforehand. so i was able to get my account restored, changed my email and right away i bought a wow authenticator

never had that problem again

Remember kids: False bans happen. And are more common than you might like to believe.

The system we have is awful.

That being said, congrats OP.

where is even the proof you were unbanned. could just be shilling and trying to cast doubt on the anticheat.
why would the anticheat pick you out of 10million.
if its faulty it must be faulty by some percent and even if it was wrong 5% of the time that would be 50,000 people and they would all be complaining and prob break the support system.
less than 0% error is more likely you are actually just cheating.

Last banwave we had, there had been bunch of people who got falsely flagged and got unbanned. Including the guy who was a streamer who probably had the most hours put into this game in this world.

False flagging can happen to anybody folks, forumers included. Their last two banwaves have raised far more false flags than what we’ve been accustomed to previously, so anybody could get randomly banned at this point.

Except Blizzard’s systems are particularly garbage.

That’s actually impressive. Typically you don’t get a real reply from any company when you get banned for cheating, I thought Blizzard was no different.

I’ll be damned.

Yeah its a great feeling pretty rare, I had been banned on a diff blizz game and it got reversed they never told me why though but they did apologize … I hope that they figure out the issue that caused the false flag so it doesnt happen again especially for people more well known with the community it can be harder to repair that trust.

As I stand now I am currently suspended on Overwatch on this account because I am quite vocal in expressing my opinions of people who offer theirs first on me in a negative way :smirk: It kinda sucks cause I know I am breaking TOS but the issues really stem from things the OW team could help fix or at least punish the actual instigators - I know most people just ignore them but I dont like bullies very tangential I apologize

I was in the same situation, and just as I was losing hope, Blizzard also unbanned me today! Happens to be my birthday (in the lunar calendar) too, maybe that helped

How many tickets did you open before you got one that actually looked into the issue, btw?

TBH it’s partly due to the way the people making such posts present themselves
When the thread is filled with insults towards Blizzard it’s hard to feel like they were “wrongly banned” when they’re clearly exhibiting strong toxic characteristics

I still wonder why it seems to have hit almost exclusively low level accounts with 0 forum posts

GRATS! I know the feeling, I got wrongfully banned and account restored a while back too

People can make alts and they never have to visit forums either, especially not on their mains. That and cheaters are usually on alternate accounts, which just makes people more inclined to report them and system flagging the account as true cheater because low level and having that similarity with majority of the accounts who actually cheat.

Hardly the only ones who get false flagged though. One of the more famous false flags was a streamer with more hours on this game than possibly any other person in this world.

I’m level 391 in Overwatch. Just because I don’t post doesn’t mean I’m a low level.
