Hugely Unpopular Opinion But I Kinda Hate the Junker Queen

Back before Junkertown was announced, I imagined it as a ragged “town” consisting of basically tents and shacks with no order or anything of the sort. I thought of it as basically a place of no law or order with people stealing and looting from each other and stuff. The idea is horrifying and scary, which is what Junkertown should be.

However, apparently it functions like a society with a queen and rules. I feel like this completely defeats the purpose of Junkertown. I guess it’s too late to delete her, especially cause everyone loves her, but idk I just feel like the idea of a “Queen of the Junkers” is lazy. Wouldn’t it be cooler if the Australian Liberation Front was like a brutal, self-appointed police force in a brutal, law-less camp in the wastelands of a factory?

I guess it’s cool that she’s harsh and strict and has power from being the best fighter, but I think a no ruler sort of camp in a disheveled Omnium would have made for a better Junkertown.

All I can hope for is for her to be overthrown or something, but considering the massive fanbase she has, I guarantee she’ll be a hero one day, and she won’t be leaving Junkertown any time soon.

Maybe I’m being inconsiderate, hating on Junkertown because it’s not how I wanted it to be, but I feel like the “lawless, cutthroat society” it was supposed to be is taken away by having a ruler who controls all the Junkers. Doesn’t it just make more sense for murderous, brutal people to not live under some person’s rule? Like if these people are as harsh and brutal as the lore makes them out to be, why do they support the Queen?

I know I’ll get hate for this, and sorry for rambling. I just don’t think a ruler suits the “every man (or woman) for themselves” kinda thing that Junkertown always implied. Oh well. Nothing can be perfect.

She’s Queen from my understanding, because she’s the mech battle champion and fought her way to the top and now rules with an iron fist to keep her level of control. She doesn’t have the people’s support per se, they just fear her.

As for why there needs to be a leader…well, it’s human nature and pretty necessary for survival, every society ends up with one eventually. Doesn’t mean the rule is stable but it would be weirder if Junkertown had no leaders after all this time.

I disagree. I find it hard to believe that hundreds of brutal people are scared to gang up on one woman and take her down. To me, the idea of a ruler of the society makes them not really scary or anything at all.

You have to remember that Australia is essentially an apocalyptic wasteland in the world of Overwatch. It would be natural for survivors to group up and rally behind the strongest as their leader, someone who can provide or facilitate food, shelter and order in a lawless wasteland. Such a leader would likely be the smartest, strongest and most decisive amongst the group, and the Junkertown Queen is that person for Junkertown. As an example in movies, look at Immortan Joe from Fury Road or the leaders of The Bullet Farm or Gastown in the same film. Even thugs, ruffians and outcasts can have structured leadership of some sort, which can be seen in real-life criminal organizations like the Triads, the Camorra, the Yakuza or the Mafia.

The Australian Outback is a tough place in the future of Overwatch, so the makeshift huts and buildings are probably a massive upgrade from other lodging there, which may have been destroyed. In the Overwatch universe, she has likely done a lot more good for Junkertown than can be seen from what little we know of her so far.

We still barely know anything about her, but like wouldn’t it be scarier and cooler if the ALF, with members like Roadhog, took over the society as a brutal “police force” to keep people in line? Certainly more creative than slapping down a new “Queen” character.

Maybe the Queen was a member of the ALF? What you’re saying could actually be the case, we just know so little and they release lore so slowly that it’s hard to tell.

Well, she isn’t a lone woman.

Like any leader, she has a group of people enforcing things for her and as we know she taxes and such, it’s in their best interests to stick with her for survival purposes if nothing else. And for any Junker who did want to go against her, they’d be facing not only her, but her group as well so they’d have to match that manpower to have a chance.

Also Roadhog going off the Wasted Land comic is a loner (pre-Junkrat at least) by choice, he has no interest in Junkertown or ruling it.

What I said about Hog is for an alternate version of Junkertown, where he and the rest of the ALF controlled it from the start. I wasn’t talking about our Overwatch Universe the writers have made, I thought that was obvious.

Hate the Junkertown Queen?

Shame on you.

Haha sorry, I just think it was a lazy idea for a potentially awesome setting.

She sounds like a Borderlands character.

U kids go watch mad max thunderdome

Wow, someone hasn’t seen Beyond Thunderdome…

Actually, true, that is a more obvious reference. I am actually not a fan of Mad Max movies before Fury Road, so I must have blocked it from my mind.

Don’t know if you play Mass Effect, but to me she is like Aria T Loak of junkertown essentially, she’s in control probably ruling by fear. I don’t know why she is so popular since we don’t know much of her but there’s potential down the line. I don’t think she should be a hero only because that would be a 3rd hero with the junkertown theme. There’s still so much more to explore from Overwatch thats barely even touched, like the secret organization Sombra is chasing, etc.

couldnt have said it better myself, that said the queen isnt as brutal as i would expect, junkrat(and roadhog) blows up her shack and steals her money and beats up her lackey’s and all she does is throw them out and doesnt kill them, i do find that odd about her character

People can still be useful later, even crazy ones

i hope the devs read your posts about the australian liberation front and decide to make them another faction later on, imagine the australian liberation front vs the junkers in a war, that would be amazing and it would have a tonne of potential for new characters, factions, locations, storylines ect and the australian liberation front could bring a completely new aesthetic to the game(i would love to see a heavility militarised mad max group with mad max ned kelly as their leader fighting the junkers and the junkertown queen)

As much as I love those old movies (myself being of a certain age) they are pretty low rent and haven’t aged particularly well. Tina Turner’s Aunty Entity is iconic, though… deserves to be remembered. Cheers!

they are great movies but dont watch them for the “special effects” cause they dont exist
