BRING BACK TOTAL MAYHEM

Players are going to start leaving because mayhem has been out for over a week. Especially with marvel rivals coming up.

That link takes you to active players on overwatch daily (from steam charts)

The player count dropped from 40,000 to 20,000 on july 9th (the day mayhem went away) and has been spiking up and down since.

Compare that to its player base of consistently over 40,000 a day for over the last few months when Mayhem is a daily thing.

When mayhem is down you are losing over half of your daily player base. I dont understand why they are choosing to do this. Mayhem is Overwatchs most popular game mode if you arent into the competitive scene. And the data supports it.

Cmon Blizzard. You are failing at making your players happy. At least let us play what we want!

yeah this game has been circling the drain for a while and now that the competition is out, we can finally flush this one.

Correlation is a factor into causation. Statistics and data dont lie. There has been a trend of over 30 thousand up to 40 thousand players daily for over 5 months.

Take mayhem away and it dropped down to the 20 thousands for a straight week. It hasnt dropped into the 20 thousands since february 11th 2024.

Once mayhem comes back I can guarantee the total daily players will jump back up to the 35+ thousand that we have been seeing active online daily since february 11th

No see it’s actually because the moon was in its waxing crescent stage.

I do agree that marvel rivals and games like the first descendent are going to massively steal a large amount of overwatchs player base.

Mayhem has been in the toilet since OW1. I remember Devs talking about how they regretted the mode. It still feels like this today. Mayhem gets the least amount of respect possible as has been stated. And as the OP says, data shows that many people love this mode, including myself. This mode is what brings me to this game at all nowadays, so if there is a quickplay or a no-limits arcade game to be had it owes it all to Mayhem. OP Please keep posting the numbers because that seems to be the only thing that will underscore the reality of the situation as you stated. Unless it’s game-breaking, they pretty much ignore Mayhem. I mean Jesus, how long did we have to wait for Unkillable Zarya to get a Nerf. The real problem with that was the background noise of it all just underscoring everything I just said. A hero update, oh TM is now screwed. Completely. I understand schedules, testing, pressure, sleep, etc. but how does that happen? Not one dev runs Zarya through a test mode in Mayhem and sees this GLARING game-breaking issue? Or possibly, they saw it and didn’t care. Either way, it’s not comforting at all when showing their attitude to Mayhem and now here we go again… TM was forced into the back alley and ignored while the event was running. And unfortunately, it’s not surprising at all. History does repeat itself.

what are you looking at exactly cause all i see is a player count that fluctuates between like 20-40k every DAY

if anything you could argue that removing mayhem makes literally no impact on that

Its so funny, but please continue with those consolidated claims. I will not even mention that the steam playerbase is only a FRACTION of what the PC playerbase it.

If you look at ALL the data since release:

75k Season 6 OW on Steam release
38k Season 7 release
38k Season 8 release
41k Season 9 release
61k Season 10 release
42k Currently (when all people are done with the BP btw)

So I have ZERO idea where people get the idea that OW is doing badly.

For around 1-3 months and then die or rot like the last games that people named…

That doesn’t mean it caused it.
Two things can change at the same time & not be related.

They can be misinterpreted, as you are doing now.

There’s a tiktok account called ericryanericryan that goes into this, how correlation does not equal causation.

Here are some examples:

  1. As the popularity of the first name Tyler went down, so did the Google search for ‘desktop background’.

  2. The peak of the floss dance matched with jet fuel use in Kazakhstan.

  3. The number of US kids in public school matches the number of pipelayers in North Dakota - all kids dream of being a pipelayer in North Dakota.

  1. Is that just counting steam players?

The player count on July 9th was 38,118.

Where are you getting 20,000 from?

Players right now:

  • 37,970

I don’t get it. On July 8th it was 36k, on July 9th it was 38k and on July 10th it was 41k.

Where does the 20k number come from? I don’t even see a single day where the game had less than 20k on Steam since it went live on there. Outside of the obvious valleys that happen once every day. Turns out people sleep and work.

Uh, no buddy, lol.

Let me check the link…hmm mayhem isn’t up, and it’s 38k right now. Weird!

I get that you like total mayhem (whatever that is), but that has nothing to do with the number of players on steam, lol.

this is exactly why OB has always been so useless

cause people just take data and do whatever they want with it.

even when the data doesnt show what theyre claiming (like in this example) they just throw it out there anyway (and steam numbers are less debatable than OB at that)

just smh’s all around

Its not useless at all. A tool still has a purpose and function, even if some people have no idea how to use it. The data is not wrong, but many people just dont know how to operate OB and what those numbers mean.

I literally can’t find it anywhere.
The lowest it has ever gotten was 27,818 on September 25, 2023.

The only possible place they might have gotten it from is the review rating on the top right-hand side.
It’s currently at 19.89%, and it might have been 20% when this post was written?

That’s the only thing I can think of

Even if you go back to Jul9 the (average) population has been steady at around 40k so i am also confused.
Why link the 48h if the date mentioned isnt in there?
Where do you see this 20k drop off since Jul 9?
What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?

Calm down, shill. The game is gonna die. It’ll still be around people like you, but the majority of the base is already one foot out the door. So kiss you DLCs good and new content goodbye. Those numbers you quoted are already projected to change drastically. Also, Steam is horrible metric for any game that didn’t start there. You need to be pulling your data directly from Blizzard.

Ah yes, ignoring facts when they dont support claims that you want to belive. Yes yes… how is Gundam (gone) or Finals (13k players) doing? You know, the last two games who should have killed OW.

…Total mayhem is not a permanent mode. It just shows up once or twice a week.

Youre definitely wrong. Mayhem is every day, it changes every day at 7pm (my time) either to mayhem or away from mayhem. But its daily. At least before july 9th. Thats all me and my crew play.
