Hows deadlock? Haven't heard about it

I see marvel rivals is coming out soon reminded me of the graveyard filled with other “ow killers.”

Hows deadlock that game did seem like it be fun too bad they never made a console port.

It is not even out. I wouldn’t recommend it in its current form either way.

Its still in closed beta, and probably will be for next few years. Maybe wait till it gets released?

Valve is drowning in dollars, and is in no hurry to release its game.
It will release it “when it is ready and done” and not before.

Also Valve does not care about the competition, Overwatch or Marvel Rivals, Deadlock does not have the pretext at least at the beginning to replace the cash cows that are Counter Strike 2 or Dota 2, plus a provider of additional financial income like Team Fortress 2, which despite its near abandonment by the studio is still profitable.

As long as it does not end up like Concord or Artifact, that is all that concerns Valve for the release of the game.
Moreover Deadlock is more like a moba like Smite than a hero shooter like Overwatch, even if there will be obvious similarities and inspirations.

It has items, it’s not an OW clone. These games scratch different itches.
It’s closer to Smite or LoL than it is to OW.

My friend got me into the beta, I have yet to touch it lol

It’s a 3rd person DOTA essentially.

Marvel Rivals is a very close competitor to Overwatch and has a ton of hype. The biggest difference is 3rd person vs 1st person perspective. It’s also got destructible environments and 6v6 open queue format. But for all intents and purposes, it’s Overwatch. They scratch the same itch.

Deadlock is a 3rd person MOBA shooter. It’s much closer to Smite or League of Legends in gameplay. It has lanes, an item shop, powering up abilities, collecting souls, mobs, etc. The only real departure from classic MOBA is no real setup phase with pick/bans. That’s really the main distinction. It’s not very similar to Overwatch IMO and doesn’t truly compete with it.

My biggest complaints personally with Deadlock are that the hero design to me is a bit boring. I really only find a couple of them interesting. And reloads are super long. But it’s basically a MOBA. If you like MOBA games like DOTA2 and LoL, Deadlock seems like a decent one. Or maybe if you are really into Paladins I could see it clicking for you maybe. If you don’t like any of those, you probably won’t like it either.

I put about 160 hours into it. It’s not really my type of game but I have friends who are playing it every day still (instead of overwatch) so it is pulling some people. It is a very different kind of game though, the only similar part to overwatch is that it is a shooter with heroes. Other than that it’s completely different in how it plays.

Both the games you ask about don’t focus on target the overwatch community.

Deadlock is going for the moba crowd, Marvel has the tent pole thing of wanting to crossover to kids, comic book fans, and gamers.

If you think games are launching to be competitive Ow killers, then you lack awareness of how niche hero shooter is.

Companies want bigger numbers. Ow has done great at holding a dedicated player base but it is weak on new player growth.

The devs decisions and upper management decisions are the true ow killers

Nah it’s not even closed beta. It’s “EARLY DEVELOPMENT BUILD” is what they say in the store page.

Try it out and see for yourself?

I like it, but I also played (and liked) Dota. It’s been my main game for like 3 months now or so. It’s more macro-heavy than Overwatch like a, well, MOBA because it is a MOBA. But less so than Dota. It hits the perfect mix between micro and macro for me.

I like this video because it shows what the game can be if you play it right (and it’s a fun to watch video):

Also because it’s an ex Overwatch player like most of the Deadlock pros :smirk:

It’s very different. It’s a MOBA with team shooter elements.
I find it very fun once you get the hang of it and the characters despite unfinished are quite cool and with interesting lore.

It’s still unfinished, but it’s been cool to see the game development upclose.

it isnt even an ow clone or even close to it, not even comparable, ow2 is dogwater lol, play classic for 30mins and you will see the difference, oh unless you like having your hand held, immortals to bail out your or our teammates bad play, tons of healthy because you dont know how to play the game and super tanks for the same reason cuz they are too stupid to make 2 tanks work.

It’s a moba. Very much a moba.

Deadlock is okay. It’s not an “overwatch killer” like some forum doomers were saying it would be lol

It’s much closer to Smite than it is to Overwatch. It’s a 3rd person MOBA. If MOBA’s are your thing and you also like shooters it might interest you. But honestly it’s already a really sweaty game and it hasn’t even gone public so I’m not sure how big it’ll get considering how hard of a time newcomers will have

I can’t play it knowing Dr. Diddlespec has more than a 0% chance to be in my games.

I also can’t do 3rdp for shooting, only for Ballin’ and Shielding.

People have been saying for years that Paladins was a cheap ripoff of Overwatch when the gameplay of these two games is totally different.

Paladins only had the misfortune of be release at the same time as Overwatch and suffered this wave of unjustified continuous hate.

While it was enough to play 10 minutes of each of the two games to realize that they were not at all of the same genre.

I have no doubt that Deadlock will suffer this same illogical comparison, because the two games share 5% of common characteristics, deliberately forgetting the 95% that make all the difference and make each game unique.

As I regularly say, it is better to prepare for the worst by hoping for the best, but remaining aware that it is the worst that has the highest probability of happening.
