How would you rank support ults in the current meta?

As a support main here is my current opinion.

S+: Orbital Ray, Kitsune Rush

S: Sound barrier, Nano boost

A: Transcendence, Rally, Amplification Matrix

B: Tree of Life, Captive Sun

C: Valkyrie

D: Coalescence

I’d drop Orbital Ray a bit, none of your team wants to get in it so you have to drop it on them for it to be of any use. And it moves to fast with the “buff?” at the start of the season, moving out of where you want it to be used most of the time.

I’m not considering the idiocy of your average player and moreso it’s strength when everyone is coordinating.

Man there was a time this was an S tier ult. Really shows how much burst dmg has been added to the game over the years.

Swap nano with rally. Everything else is fine.

The DPS passive was a big nerf to it, honestly I’m fine with that since Ana and Junker Queen was pretty much the only way to outplay it.

Not a bad list. I think Orbital Ray is good but I think Kitsuné is better still. I’d drop it to top of S-tier per your scale. And coalesce isn’t that bad, maybe move it to Valkyrie Tier. Otherwise I pretty much agree here.

coal worse than valkyrie? you’re tripping

whats the outplay to captive sun? (im bad an panic when i try to shoot at her)

Cover, splitting up, Suzu, barriers, defense matrix, deflect, Sig succ, javelin spin, and simply shooting her.

same as you’d do against kiriko ult. kite it

ignore it

don’t try to fight enemy team when they’re under the effect

if they have it in overtime and you don’t, you will lose the fight 100% of the time. orbital ray is mercy’s ult if it was good. 100hps + 35% damage boost.

S+ sound barrier
S: kitsune, nano, orbital ray.
A: trance, rally, tree of life.
B: amp matrix, captive sun.
C: valkyrie
D: coalesence.

My opinion on the matter.
Nano, orbital ray and amp matrix rating can move up or down one depending on a player’s timing positioning and teammates.
They’re very situational and easy to mistime and misplace.

S: Kitsune, Beat, Nano

A: Trans, Tree

B: Ray, Matrix, Coal, Rally

C: Valk, Captive Sun

Reasoning:

Kitsune is a fight win ult. Easy S tier.

Beat counters everything. Ez fight win when you time it right.

Nano is generally a fight win if timed properly.

Trans is good, but not instant fight win good most of the time.

Tree is actually really hard to kill through. Not a fight win ult but it basically resets the tempo on a fight you’re starting to lose

Ray is good but it’s not Kitsune. Doesn’t even fill the same niche. It’s numerically good but forces people to play in one spot for max value. It can outheal some damage, but coordination kills through it.

Matrix is just THE zoning ult. You can’t peek it and not blow up, and it lasts for 10 seconds.

Coal is only above Rally because of how often you get it. It’s really nothing special.

Rally is the best of the worst Support ults honestly. Decent survivability for her whole team isn’t terrible.

Valk is just…there. No one is saying “I’ve got Valk” or “Watch out for Mercy, she has Valk” because literally no one cares about it.

Captive Sun might be better than Valk, but honestly I never really see people dying to it consistently and it’s piss easy to avoid. At least Valk is guaranteed value, however low that value may be.

Personally I don’t think any of them are D tier, I’d bump Coal up to C. And imo, Orbital Ray isn’t THAT good. Kiriko’s is way better. I’d put Orbital Ray in A

Orbital ray is game changing at high levels since it pairs well with meta heroes but kiriko’s ult definitely is better since it pairs with practically every hero

I wish they would undo the speed they added to the beam, tends to leave the area you want it to be in before its up, or you need to place it farther back to begin with to get it into place where you want.

They also need to reduce the radius of the beam effect coming down, the smaller red or blue beam in the center is fine, but the larger white cylinder around it blocks alot of sights and clutters up the screen. Just leave it the small beam in the center that then extends to a bright circle on the ground that marks of the whole thing.

I think you place Orbital to high. Its good, but not even as good as Nano. Also Valk is not as weak as people think (ironic that I have to say this… I hate valk).

My placement:

S-Tier:

  • Nano
  • Kitsune

A-Tier:

  • Sound Barrier
  • Rally
  • Trance (without an Ana in the game)

B-Tier:

  • Matrix
  • Oribital
  • Valk

C-Tier:

  • Coal
  • Tree
  • Sun

None in D tier.

Do you think you put ray lower because you’re a tracer main? (And aren’t staying in one spot or a straight line) just curious.

Possibly, as bias is rarely evident to the biased. But I would like to believe that I didn’t because I wasn’t really thinking from a Tracer perspective. Just in general, the more angles your team has the more dangerous you are. So ults that make you play in one spot can actually hinder your team. Worst case, people gather for the ult and the attack is just blocked by some form of mitigation, and then everyone dies. Best case, one to two people get value while the rest are elsewhere.

Kitsune works so perfectly because the AOE is much bigger and the effect itself is stronger. Even if you group up, it boosts healing, damage, and cooldown uptime so you’re far harder to punish. And if you take an angle you can still potentially get the buff.

Ray basically has the same upsides as Kitsune but worse, with downsides that Kitsune doesn’t have. That’s why I ranked it lower.
