How would you fix Reaper

I use to main reaper back in season 7 but ever since I just can’t play him because Reaper is so bad right now.

I thought the buffs would make him crazy, but they really didn’t do much. Then came Brigitte who made life hell for Reaper with armour everywhere and constant stuns…

Don’t get me started on trying to verse a hanzo as reaper.

To me the biggest problem with reaper is how close you have to be to actually do damage. Unless you’re nearly point blank, most characters can kill you even since Reapers range is trash. So I would maybe give Reaper armour penetration (cause gosh damn, reaper vs armour is like trying to kill a pharah as rienhardt) and also reduce his spread by 10-15%. Hopefully after these changes THE SHOTGUN HERO will actually be more feared at close range than a frickin Archer.

How would you guys fix Reaper?

Full rework, there is no other way.

Reaper’s problem has always been his clunky kit, not necessarily that he’s weak. He has one effective range, has an unwieldy kit for getting into/out of that range, and is one of the only heroes in the game who is limited to that range with no other reliable option. He also has a really big hitbox for a DPS hero who has to be in close. I feel like if the developers really wanted to make Reaper reliable, they’d have to give him something-- anything-- for range.

He had grenades in the museum cinematic; maybe they should consider giving him a grenade as an ability on a cooldown to help him deal with armor/enemies who have stun abilities without getting in their face.

The “smoke grenades” idea here looks pretty cool:

If that’s not enough, make Death Blossom no longer be channeled. So no more booping him out of it.

Shadow step and wraith form on paper should be used that way. But in game using wraith form at the start is suicide as it is your escape option and using shadow step too aggressively (like simply trying to contest the frickin high ground) will most likely put a bullet through your dome.

That actually is a pretty good idea, it would let Reaper get close to his enemies which is (as mentioned above) what reaper really needs.

Yeah, those grenades could be useful right around now

Right Click - HELLFIRE GRENADES

Does 70 Direct damage, can store 3 charges, on a 7 second cooldown.

The grenades explode on contact however the grenades would detonate after one second. The grenades also have a smaller radius.

Rework Shadow Step to be more viable in more situations other then using to get behind and gank. Overall if Shadow Step didn’t take as long to cast and gave him more mobility to make it easier to get closer, it would make him a lot more viable.

Death Blossom, maybe a bit longer? more range?

I’ve seen some suggest to give him a passive for his shotguns to just completely ignore armor, maybe? and lastly make wraith form last for longer?

These are honestly, surpratic guesses. I don’t have a clue on how bad of a spot he is in right now. Speaking from past expierence.

I think the main worry, with giving reaper nades. Is, if you do that he’s basically becomes an all in one tank crusher.

The nades allowing him to break barriers effciently and the shotguns to finish them off. That would lower the use of Rat, which is one of his main purposes which I believe is why they scrapped the idea of giving reaper nades?

I guess this is because I am in a lower rank but I wouldn’t do much, other than maybe slightly tighten spread, and make shadow step have more range and make it so he doesn’t announce to the team “death comes.”

One or two grenades on a cooldown wouldn’t make him a better Junkrat-- and I say that as a Junkrat main, myself. They’d definitely have to test the cooldown and damage output and see where it would put him, but he could really use those grenades as a “single-shot” way to eat off SOME of the armor in the game. It’s really effecting his pellets right now.

  • Full damage to armor, at close range
  • Invulnerability on first half of Shadow Step
  • 3x faster animation on first half of Shadow Step

I realize a couple grenades wouldn’t make him a better junk. I have a decent amount of hours on junk as well. I’m just saying, with @LuckyFields suggestion the barrier tanks would have a rough time, if he gained an easy way to bust through the barriers like nothing and If they ended up being to strong, it would be more efficent to have Reaper then a dps and a rat? If that makes any sense. I’m terrible at explaining.

So what would they be like Junk’s nades or syms Bombs or maybe even junks mines?

Smaller spread, faster teleport.

I would say junkrat nades, if they don’t arc as much.

I use Reaper a lot (someone has to do it…), and i want just 2 things for him: Wraith form let you climb walls (like in the Recall cinematic) and is faster than it actually is, and Shadowstep, during Wraith form, let you instantly teleport at the target location. I’d also like to have Wraith form on a resource meter (with a 2-3 second cooldown upon activation) and letting damage/kills recharge it. Also, pls bring back the souls, they were better tactical-wise, or at least increase the percentage of lifesteal with continuous hits (like Synmetra weapon charges).

I’d replace shadow step with smoke bombs. Our boi needs something he can sling at range, not too much damage cuz he’s already got that. I’ve head that the way he gets crits is bugged. He could use a lower pellet counter but his damage per shot should be the same, so armor isn’t as strong against him but still matters.

He’s very strong, idk why you’re so desperate for a buff. The reapers I run into are always dominating, getting 3+ kills with their ult and just never die. Also the tooltip “The most dangerous enemies make the loudest footsteps” is a lie becuse reaper’s footsteps are so quiet, they’re practically non-existent.

ok first off reapers footsteps are loud af not sure why youre lying lmao and the only time he gets that many kills with his ult is if hes playing against a bunch of silvers lmao

I can get at least 10 ppl to confirm this. im not lying whatsoever. Literaly the only thing we can hear are his gasps when he lands on the ground from a high jump, or his voicelines, or his shots. And I have my sound turned up as high as it gets before my ears bleed. And I hear everyone elses’ footsteps just fine.
