Serious question. The matchmaking has been so damn awful lately. Feels like I’m in games I’m not supposed to be in.
Get more Tank players.
The MM has been getting worse day after day, this seems to have no solution anymore.
First get rid of the cheater and ximners.
Next have a true global rank reset. Hidden mmr as well.
Institute a slow mmr decay for al players above plat. Like itll drop you from masters 1 to masters 2 affer 2 weeks or a month of not playing.
Reduce the harshness of qp leaver penalties.
Don’t penalize players as harshly if its a disconnect and they rejoin the comp match asap. If qp, who cares. Theres backfill anyway.
And thats all withouth beining back 6v6, wich im fully in favor of.
I’ve been playing tank and it’s such an awful experience. They need to just scrap this role already or merge it with DPS.
Here’s how to get more Tanks.

That is unironically the correct answer. Surprising that people do not understand that. You need to fill slots, cuh. That’s how this works!
Read it all and I couldn’t agree with it. That isn’t how to make tanking fun. What made tanking fun back in OW1 before RQ was the OPTION of being able to go tank.
0-3-2 is the only way to fix the matchmaking problem. Tanks have to be incorporated with DPS, and they have to be optional. If the meta is 3 tanks, then let it be 3 tanks, but it can easily be fixed by giga-buffing DPS to one/two shot status OR making their passive completely halt healing for 1 second (resets every shot/ability usage). Evening the playing field.
This way, the OW players who prefer tanking can still tank, the FPS players who prefer damage can still play damage without the worry of not being backed by two supports.
Support players will forever be support players. There are more people who prefer supporting the team than tanking by far. They wouldn’t need any changes. Even if every DPS were capable of killing them within one second or less. Support players are like the “bottom” of this relationship. They’ll take whatever.
Ya seeing gold players in lobbies with Masters/GM’s without any of them even stacking is wild especially in this day of casual rank disparities.
The worst dogpile games this game has to offer for me personally are games where I have a wild gold stack and the opponents have a stack too except they have slightly better averages with a GM in their stack. So basically I’m just there for some absurd compensation that never works properly and ends up with out team getting absolutely rolled and smoked at which point all I can do is go Ball and practise rollout for 6 minutes that it takes us to lose the match. And I’ve actually noticed this trend where I would sometimes look at my replays and see a healthy variance of winned matches that has game times from 8-15 minutes being heavier on the latter, but all the losses on those days are <9min matches where we didn’t even win a handful of teamfights. The matchmaking just absolutely crushes you sometimes as a higher MMR’d player who doesn’t play the game for a living
No.
Thai 1 second effect would make it impossible to peel for a teammate attacked by tracer, sombra, soldier, bastion, sojourn, reaper, mei, torb, sym, cassidy, echo… and at that point also every tank other than reinhardt maybe.
There would be no point in playing support at all, at which point you lose all support players.
Most of us play support because we like giving our teammates a fighting chance. Even the 20% nerf removes that from some supports. Which is why everyone is playing ana, kiri and bap now. They dtill have insane burst heal potential and because of the passive are the only viable healers in the game right now.
If a meta becomes a 3-2, you just nerf the meta heroes for a while. The solution would not be to make the game even more miserable.
Dps already can kill supports in 1 second or less. And it feels awful. If the bullets were shrunk back down, being killed in less than a second would feel better, as you would know the enemy actually had to hit you first.
If supporting isn’t fun (some supports are suffering with the dps passive already) there will be less supports. And the queues will start suffering again.
Just introduce a real solo queue and watch the majority of the MM “issues” vanish. Other than that the MM is doing a decent with the variables is has access to.
You can’t expect an enjoyable experience as a solo as long as you get paired with stacks which more often then not introduce wide skill disparity even in so called narrow groups for reasons I won’t bother exposing again.
On paper those matches may be balanced, but having deadweight (or even being one yourself) on the team is never a fun experience, even if the enemy team have one too.
Turning off the 50% winrate rigging seems like a good idea
Also solo only queue when we are on it.
why is no one here talking about the elephant in the room?
new players
In theory they could allow for any mix of 1-2-2, hear me out.
If you choose DPS and the game starts and both teams have 3 DPS and 2 supports, is that a bad thing?
Would you even care there are no tanks in the game? As long as the mix of team comps is the same for both, there is no advantage. They should trial it.
Get rid of the asymmetric matchmaking. Meaning get rid of role queue.
You can have good matchmaking or fast queues but you cannot have both.
The MM is not the problem, or at least the big one.
The tank pop is stretched too thin. Theyre having to cover too wide a range of players.
People hop on the rigged mm train all the time without realizing theyre actually complaining about the problem with the tank role. They blame the mm for putting them with a bad tank.
No. It is not the mm or the tank’s player’s fault. Its that theyre just arent enough tank players, the mm has its hands tied, and tank role is still problematic and not fun for too many people.
But MM rigging pops here on the forums all the time. So idiotic.
Stick a mode in the experimental slot that’s 6v6 with role limits. As in, it’s like OQ except you can’t have more than (for example) two supports on a team. Now for the really important step: tighten up the matchmaker for this particular mode.
I love having RQ and prefer it over OQ, but not to the point where I would rather put up with crap matches. I will deal with the dumb crap that an OQ type mode brings if it results in lobbies with teams generally closer together in skill level.
Shut the servers down and put the game out of its misery out of respect for Jeff.
You don’t…
People need to understand that it is always the thing people blame (even if it’s doing exactly what people think it should do)…no im not saying it’s perfect
even when the matchmaking was “better”, and we didn’t have 5v5, and we had more people, and we didn’t have RQ, and insert whatever else people claim is the reason it isn’t working here
……people blamed the matchmaking
Take overwatch during its golden era…people blamed the matchmaking
It’s what people do…we will never be happy with it
Not to mention - how do you fix something when half the things people blame it for aren’t even things it’s responsible for?
