How would YOU balance the game?

Since some or many claim that the balance team is not doing a good job, tell me. How would you balance Overwatch without removing heroes/abilities?

Balance for plat and diamond instead of GM

These are all exc ideas I’m just thinking about

Global CC nerf (strictly for how CC stacks)

I would lower healing (just a bit, not by much, mostly attacking the consistency of burst/high healing)

Lower damage (burst) in ways that would require testing

Look at ult charge. Because I’m lowering damage and healing, I may not need to do anything, but I think ults (currently) charge too fast.

Nerf Hack/EMP and give stealth/translocator/machine gun buffs. Possibly look at opportunist.

Begin a poll on reworking Bastion as either tank or dps and further polls on either buffs or power shifts and where the power is shifted.

Increase the speed of Pharah slightly, give shield health, make her audio consistent (maybe louder like echo’s), give her shield health.

Regen Cleanse (probably same healing but a cleanse would justify the cooldown)

IF adjustments.

Poll for bloom or spread on Baptiste (I personally don’t know why people bloat the power of his primary but I like the current fire rate).

Hitbox adjustments for Zen Sym & Dva (critbox)

Investigation on Sym to help her engage (turrets are kind of awkward when the game continues to move away from bunker and she needs to move away from Taximetra)

Tracer/Ball nerfs so we can look at nerfing CC

Doom buffs/nerfs, depending on how CC is adjusted and damage is lower and how he fairs. Probably won’t need much either way.

For whatever reason, I forgot Brigg & Sigma existed.
Poll on whether to shift Sigma towards main tank with more exploitable weaknesses or a more solid off tank.
Poll on whether to shift Brigg back towards a sustained brawler or way back towards a duelist/anti-flank; either way, away from an area+pocket healer that she is now).

  • Nerf every hitscan until they’re on the same power level as projectile heroes (nerf echo too if needed)
  • Remove Sig shield
  • Rebalance Brig to be tanky with low healing potential

At least that’s how I would do it.

I think, I would add small bits of randomness in the qp stats for a hero.

Then you could over time see how much that effected that hero and the other heroes around it at different ranks.

Then solve targeting for average same win rate at all ranks (after normalizing win rate)

Literally force the system into a self balancing situation.

Balance? You’re asking for too much. I don’t care if it’s NaniOWO or MooshPaw, no one man (or woman) (or non-binary) is able to balance a game consisting of 32 selectable heroes with over 100 abilities. (probably)

These are just some changes I personally want to see.

Ana - Biotic Grenade duration reduced from 4 to 3.5 seconds.
Ashe - Revert Ashe nerfs to her gun. (I don’t know what they are exactly)
Baptiste - Immortality Field cooldown doesn’t start until after the drone finishes its duration or is destroyed.
Bastion - Quicken his deployment times to and from modes to 50% faster.
Brigitte - Repair Packs removed. Inspire and her overall damage gets reverted. (To 1.0) [Yes, I do hate Samito, how did you know?]
D.va - Increase Self-Destruct radius by 3m. (specifically for the part that one-shots squishies)
Doomfist - Uppercut gets reverted. Seismic Slam radius increased to 18m. Meteor Strike outer ring damage increased to 150.
Hanzo - Arrow speed reverted.
Junkrat - Junkrat now gets 2 traps, and both can be deployed at once.
Lucio - Amp It Up gets reverted. (BOOSTIOOOOOOOOO!)
McCree - He can now roll in the air, but he doesn’t reload when he air rolls.
Mei - Radius of Blizzard increased by 3m.
Mercy - No longer has infinite ammo in Valk, instead gets reload time halved.
Moira - Biotic Grasp reverted.
Orisa - Shield buffed to 800.
Pharah - Jetpack reverted OR faster rocket speed.
Reinhardt - Earthshatter reverted.
Roadhog - Take A Breather increased to 10s CD.
Sigma - Experimental Barrier is completely removed. In it’s place, Sigma gets the ability to launch both of his Hyperspheres combined, doing 1.5x the damage of the regular primary fire, on a 4s CD.
Soldier: 76 - Tactical Visor, similar to Infra-Sight, now gives the player “wallhacks”, but only for enemies who are at Critical health.
Sombra - Hack duration reduced to 3.5s. SMG damage buffed, Translocater HP increased to 30.
Symmetra - Beam gets increased to 15m.
Tracer - 13M FALL-OFF BUFF REVERTED BACK TO 10M.
Widowmaker - Venom Mine CD reduced to 10s.
Winston - Tesla Cannon damage increased to 65.
Wrecking Ball - Adaptive Shields now rapidly regenerate like artificial shields (Sigma’s Grasp, Doom’s Passive, etc.)
Zenyatta - Transcendence now cleanses allies if Zenyatta activates it on an ally with a pre-existing debuff. (so nading the transing Zenyatta will still debuff his allies within his radius)

What if we take numerical balancing out of the hands of a human?

Humans are still going to have to be involved for non numeric stuff, but for the numbers, a solver would do a better job.

Because there is so many dependancies.

Make genji a god and bow every bow down. Im joking honestly idk what id do

I understand keeping hero’s in play but the devs have removed abilities in multiple heros. So that should be a valid area for someone else to make hypothetical changes as well.

I know. But I don’t think they’ll remove abilities anymore. Unless they decide another rework which they haven’t for now.

I agree with that.

To answer your question in the post I would apply fall off to AOE healing. That would punish people who play away from their team and reward together teams. AOE healing covers up a lot of bad plays by dps and tanks.

Not sure but here are some changes I want to see
Mei

  1. more ammo or lower consumption rate for primary fire
    Sym
  2. Increase beam length
  3. lower turret cool down
    Orisa
  4. lower fortify buff shield back to 900 hp
    Brig: More independence from team
  5. Durable peeler with low heals
  6. Increase curvature of shield and extend into the ground to protect brig of splash damage
    Moira
  7. Increase damage of beam slightly
  8. Lingering heals and slower meter drain.
  1. no more one shot kills.
  2. no more healing yourself without the aid of healers (Soldier, Mei, Hog, etc).
  3. lower healer’s ability to heal themselves.
  4. give every hero a cool down. all hero’s with weapons have a cool down when they reload so do the same for Brig’s Rocket Flail swing and Reins Rocket Hammer swing etc.
  5. every DPS hero needs at least a balanced of 200HP-250HP. no more, no less.
  6. get rid of turrets.

  • Increase skybox limit
  • Hitboxes more faithful to the models (characters and projectiles)
  • No more self-damage

Hero changes:
• Echo:

  • -100HP +100 Shield

• Genji:

  • -100HP +100 Shield

• Hanzo:

  • Arrow speed increased
  • Arrows will slow down with distance.

• Mcree:

  • HP decreased by 25HP to 200
  • Flashbang:
    • As in other games, the screen turns white and blurry, and makes you momentarily numb
    • Duration of effect increased
    • Target is slowed down

• Mercy:

  • No endless ammo while in Ult

• Pharah:

  • -100HP +100 Shield
  • Shift ability from experimental

• Slodier 76:

  • Recoil in all directions.
  • Ult is not an Aimbot, but an Aimassitant with additional recoil compensation

• Sobra:

  • Realistic Hacking (example: Ashes Coachgun is not hackable)

• Symettra:

  • Turrets slowdown rate decreased

• Widow:

  • HP increased from 175 to 200
  • Falloff removed (its was a pointless change)
  • SMG:
    • Damage reduced -1
    • Spreadangel reduced from 3 ° to 1 °
  • Mine (Rework):
    • Poison Cloud stays for 3 sec
    • Radius of the cloud 2m
    • Opponents of the cloud are slowed down
    • In the cloud you get 25 damage per second
    • When you leave the cloud, normal damage starts
    • max possible Dmg per Enemy: 25 * 3 + 15 * 5 = 150
    • Cooldown reduced from 15 to 10 seconds, but CD only starts when the mine is destroyed or triggered
    • Mine can be destroyed manually
  • Grabbling:
    • CD increased from 12 to 15 sec

The balance of the game is mostly fine, it seems double shield is back. I feel some heroes are completely useless like sym and bastion so I thought that maybe bastion should have a passive where he deals more damage to barriers and sym could have a secondary fire that deals the same damage as torbs gun but obviously doesn’t arc, projectile would be the same size as when you spam it right now, it goes straight but travels much faster and can deal extra damage with precision shots. This would make sym more of an fps but she would be more reliable and her primary laser is unchanged so thats cool. I feel syms ult is too niche, I have no idea what I would to it though.

But if balance works in favor of Plat/Diamond, won’t they quickly move up to Master/GM? By then who are we balancing for again?

You forgot that one crucial element: players are getting better over time, the gold/plat of today will become plat/diamond of tommorow skillswise. The high rank numbers only indicate that some players just improve faster than the rest.
