Always nice to hear everyone’s origin stories.
Personally, a bunch of friends and I were invited to a Fireside Gathering for Hearthstone and to watch some Hayao Miyazaki/Studio Ghibli films back in 2014. Later in the party, the host decided to introduce us to Overwatch. We watched the Museum Heist Cinematic Trailer and gameplay footage of some of the main characters like McCree, Soldier, Zarya, Tracer, Lúcio, Symmetra, and Mercy.
We all instantly fell in love. I pre-ordered the game and have loved it ever since.

My one friend wouldn’t shut up about how great is was going to be (pre-launch) and that we (friend group) should all buy it so we could all have a game to play together again.

I got it shortly after release, only playing it off and on until someone posted Genji highlights on the TRS forums, and I saw how damn cute he was.
Instantly hooked.

Well, l was surfing the web in like March or something, and I came across some fan-art of Overwatch characters. And I was like, ‘Overwatch, what’s that?’
And then I proceeded to get personally invested with every single character that was out at the time, through fan-art/funny comics/memes/every YouTube video available at the time.
So, yeah. I got the game during the first Anniversary Event. Been playing it ever since.

Always thought fanart was good for a game. Really cool.
Yeah. The characters are what drew me to the game. They’re still the only reason I keep playing.
Fan-art… Mash-up fan-art. It was back in the time when I was in one of the worst fandoms ever… FNAF. Please someone set that fandom on fire and break all the fangirls’ legs.

Actually saw the Recall animated short and jumped on then. I had heard of Overwatch but never really looked into it seriously before that point because team based shooters, and shooters in general, are rarely my thing. But it was just so creative, so well animated with such a high production value, I could hardly say no

I think I randomly found about free weekend during the first anniversary and decided to try it with my bf. My initial thought was that it’s probably not my kind of a game.
600hrs+ later…

I was just browsing for a new game to play, and saw Tracer.
I watched gameplay videos and decided against it at first because I thought it looked too cartooney, and for some reason Tracer made me think of splatoon?
It wasn’t until I got the game that I even realized Tracer was actually female too lol

I believe I heard about it through a streamer I used to watch and then saw the theatrical trailer, “We are Overwatch”, which instantly blew me away. I still think it’s one of the best game trailers out there to date and it made me fall in love with the game.

Fanart.
I was browsing though the web, looking for some inspiration for my drawings and I stumbled upon a drawing of Genji.
The artist captioned it with ‘‘Finally getting around to do some fanart of my new favorite game.’’
A google search later I was watching the ‘Dragons’ short and that pretty much sealed the deal for me.

Someone reblogged a picture of Reaper and I immediately fell in love. But I didn’t get the game until almost a year later. Before that I was just looking up lore and fanarts; watching streams and such until I could play myself.

I heard of the game when it was code named “Titan”.
I heard it was Blizzard’s first FPS. Shockingly, I was one of those people that knew of Blizzard and didn’t play their games. Mostly because the games are on the PC and I’m more of a console player when it comes to my gaming habits.
My husband and our best friend were really hyped for the game. When it was announced that it would be on the consoles they tried to get me on board the bandwagon. I just wasn’t interested at the time. I honestly could give a damn less.
Fast forward to June 2016
I had a long day at work and just got home. My husband just got back from work himself and was getting ready to go to the store. He told me that he couldn’t figure out what his next game purchase should be.
It was a tie between Just Cause 3 and Overwatch. I told him “The game you want the most. They are not going anywhere. You can always buy the other one next month.”
So he chose Overwatch.
I watched him play on Gibraltar and grew interested when I saw Hanzo use his ultimate. I love dragons and thought it was cool to see them in a game like that.
My husband said he was surprised… given that I’m a sucker for Disney/Pixar animation and Overwatch has that level of quality with their shorts. I didn’t even know Blizzard made shorts for the game. So, he pulled me aside and showed me “Dragons” followed by “Hero”. I then grew interested in the game and wanted to try it.
However, I couldn’t grasp it. I was so use to Halo and COD style of FPS. My husband told me that each character is different and I had to figure out what I liked. So, I tried Tracer, Hanzo, and I believe Lucio. I wasn’t feeling it. My husband pointed out Junkrat to me. He knows I love characters that are the comic relief and crazy. I’m a sucker for Australian accents and the Mad Max look. I like characters such as Guy from V for Vendetta and The Joker. I also love using explosives when I play games.
So, I said “Why not?”… and it was finally over. I fell in love. Junkrat is still my main.
And now I play the other Blizzard games as well. Well most of 'em.
