Lets just say Bastion just popped up somewhere in the world. And that he had to go real warfare, how useful would he be?
Its fair to assume that since he is from the future, hes made of some very bullet resistant metal and our guns would probably be quite pathetic compared to what he went through.
Honestly the first tank or attack choppa will wipe the floor with him and various armies have Thier soldier equipped with anti tanks weapon or high explosives anyway at least in the developed world much like we saw in reins shorts with a single soldier with a launcher taking out multiple bastion units.
But in all honesty not very well untill real millatary units turn up bastion seem like they were made to be mass produced but have tons of fire power.

Depends. Based on Uprising and Honor and Glory there are two units: One of them transforms into sentry and has a base robot form, one is just a tank.
One Bastion would be only good against mobile infantry without any bigger protection. Heavy armor would cause problem. Even in the short it can be seen that the OR units weakened the enemy for the Bastions to finish them off.
Tank units could do serious area damage but i think they are more based on destruction of buildings than finishing off the enemy army.
They would be a reasonable replacement for a SAW gunner as well as a decent building clearer and base defense bot.
He probably would have been OK in trench warfare in WW1.
Bastion is S Tier in PvE modes. He would probably do really well with an Orisa.

Military takes forever to respond to changes, especially a fictional walking turret robot. He would ruin any army for the first day or so

Don’t forget Bastion is 1 shot killed by the big man’s scraps gun (which is definitely not advanced technology)
Legions of marching Bastions as a baseline unit was a dumb idea, tactically speaking.
There’s a reason we have diverse fighting units and don’t just hand out M249’s to everyone.
Probably just like in-game. Seriously…
- Dominates the enemy until said enemy realizes what’s going on and adapts.
- Bastion is then focused and gets rolled.
However, also just like in-game… If he could have an Orisa shield and pocket healer with him (and immortality field), he’d continue to roll over any military force in the current world. XD
… Except, like, the air force. Huh, guess flying heroes are considered cheap IRL too?
Well we have machine gun emplacements in real life, so probably like that. Bastions huge advantage is self repair though. If you never had to pull an emplacement for repair and maintenance they would be way more valuable.
We are not talking about game mechanics,we are talking about lore.
In game anyone can take a rocket punch from doomfist, when in lore it send winston flying a few hundred meters away.
Ever notice that Bastion is one of the very few heroes in the game that uses standard steel bullets? Even the OR-14 units from the Crisis used normal bullets.
OR-15 units are the upgraded units we now see after the Crisis, with their new Fusion Driver weapons. They no longer shoot standard bullets. Bastion production was entirely halted after the Crisis, meaning they never got new weapons that gave them more lethal weaponry.
So that means Bastion in the real world would have the same ammunition as the rest of us. However, we can’t out rule the possibility of it being designed with a more bullet resistant material. You may argue that in the “Honor and Glory” cinematic short, a single launch from a missile launcher took out several machines, but remember that that weapon was more than likely future tech.
All in all, it seems like Bastion units would be quite capable of holding their ground (and taking the enemy’s) in a real world war.

If we are talking about real world, it’s Bastion AI that is valuable and people will start WW 3 over it, not his metal body.
Yeah, between the AI and sensor array, there’s no hiding from it, the thing would be utterly terrifying on its own. And they’re used en masse.
We also don’t know what kind of ECM they have, so while it could probably be taken down with anti-tank or anti-bunker missiles, you’d lose a lot of people in the process of trying.

i mean, against small arms fire, I would say the armor on a bastion would be pretty effective, especially when you only really have to protect the critical components with the thickest of armor, which can easily be depleted uranium due to it being completely autonomous, and well, having a mobile minigun at your disposal is pretty…uh good
Not if you have a ton of expendable units, and needn’t worry about economics, personnel and sustainability. The Omnium don’t need to worry about any of those things.
