i remember in the past people would say only bronze players ever get caught out by his trap, it was seen as a joke but you see in the OWL league the best players getting caught in traps quite a bit so i am curious what people think
I think is pretty useful for placing it in corridors where you know most of the time the enemy will retreat to.
Or somewhere where you think they will sneak past your defenses. Combined with a mine it can finish off a Tracer really quickly (although realistically most of the time Junkrat will use his mines in the middle of the fight)
It also blends with the floor a little bit so it is really hard to see if well placed and you are in a hurry
You have to be smart about your Trap Placement. You want to put it in places that will cause an enemy to die when your team dive’s them.
Placing them in places where you know the enemy will fight you but not in a place that is obviously in the open so that they can see it works well.
IT CAN TRAP A GHOST!!! :v
it’s useful if you place it in sneaky places. It’s also good for alerting you on potential flanks
Actually, when I know I’m playing against “Melee” classification heroes, I find trap quite useful. When I rip a tire, or face to face and know I’m gonna die, I drop a trap at my feet, and exact revenge with Trap+Total Mayhem. Unless it’s a “healthy” tank… Vengeance is mine.
randomly dropping a trap during a scrum is also a good way to get value out of it. During the chaos of a fight it’s easy for people to just step in it.
There’s two ways I generally use my traps, and I tend to get great mileage out of them:
Dropping them on a group of enemies from above via Mine Jump or Map Layout. (I’ve gotten 19 traps in a game on Anubis this way.)
Dropping them on/around the point during a teamfight.
The key to both situations is that the trap isn’t going to be untriggered for very long whether because it’s destroyed or it grabs someone.
I feel that if your trap isn’t triggered within 15 seconds it shouldn’t be wherever it is. Despite what Traps are literally intended for, I find Junkrat’s Trap to be much more useful when used Reactively instead of passively.
Five. It’s five useful.
Place in high traffic areas or in the middle of a group.
Works like a charm.
I love diving into a team fight that’s starting to go south add literally throw traps at people.
Straight messes them up, and if they don’t get immediatly trapped? What are they going to do? Stop in the middle of a fight to shoot it? Or carefully avoid it while also not getting shot?
I don’t know, I have fun with it. All in all it is a surprisinly useful tool in a lot of situations.
I love getting the card for it after the match, i feel like i did my job and annoyed enough people with it
It’s incredibly useful.
I often find the more you think about the traps the less they work.
Some of the better Junks on the Ladder (those who played him back when he was considered a throw pick) would all pretty much say the same, just throw your trap out somewhere amidst a fight. And more often than not you catch something.
It’s also good to put one at your feet when you are raining down form the high ground, no doubt a Winston, D.Va or Genji will jump up to you and get caught.
The traps are reliable enough that you can get a pick if you have enough gamesense and prediction skills.
But it’s also incredibly good in some cases in a 1v1, I always tend to drop my trap in front of me when I’m 1v1 a tracer, in case I grab her in and either my shots to land or my team to do it.
Sometimes the best traps are high traffic paths, sometimes the traps are flank paths (e. g. Hanamura Point A gate top left hole or Junkertown multiple corridors)
Sometimes the best traps are medium range payload areas in a fight engagement, you can split a fight effectively by picking up 1 member of the opposite team (like a tank or a heals) and finish off their engagement instantly.
Sometimes you just throw them to land damage in a choke if you’re close enough.
But really, a Junkrat that lands most of the traps is playing Junkrat in a proper way generally speaking. In my experience, I think I got the trap placement right so far, and because of that, I get the valuable picks needed to win a team fight.
thank you for all the replies i remember jake using a trap to with a duel against a tracer and it was so amusing to watch, i used to play a lot of junkrat when he was considered a troll pick(it was great no one knew how to play against him because it was so rare) and if i knew i was going to die i would drop my trap moments before, i would die but i would also take the person with me and that was so much fun, a lot of it is about outsmarting people
Best places to put a trap:
*Large Health Packs
*Sombra’s Health Packs
*Sombra’s Translocator
*On top of the payload
*During big team fights (someone is pretty much guaranteed to step on it
*On the point
*Around the payload
*Right outside the enemy spawn
lol back when i used to use junkrat ages ago i used to love putting it in front of spawn 9/10 times someone would step on it
I like to put Junkrats trap on top of Sombra locators I find.
In the heat of a moment it’s easy to miss them. Walking out of spawn and there’s a random trap getting caught is kinda sad. I would say it really just depends on where they’re placed as well keeping in mind owl should be the best junkrat players so they should know where high traffic areas are as well as where they’ll me less noticed so it’s not too surprising
Funny mentioning bronze though because sad as it is I never noticed traps mostly just didn’t know they sunk into the ground so I would always look for the entire trap as if it was one mine but I notice them a lot more often now knowing that they sink
If you put it on a Mei while she is frozen, she will wake up immediately being stuck in it.
