I’m trying to use a HOTAS joystick for movement and mouse for aiming on PC. I can’t figure out how to bind, because even in the bind screen the game doesn’t recognize my joystick’s movement. Thanks
(Yes it’s plugged in)

Use WASD. -----------
I could do that. OR I could have a more precise range of movement using a joystick, allowing for more maneuverability.
What is this? I don’t know exactly
It’s a type of Flight Stick, specifically the joystick part. I could use it like a joystick to have more than 4 movement directions.
Why? (20 characters)
Haven’t you seen OWL and big streamers? It’s how they get to GM.
Because I think it would be interesting. I wasn’t asking for approval, I was asking for a way to execute this.
I think you’ll need some type of program to convert the joystick inputs to WASD, sadly you can’t mix both controller and mouse/keyboard efficiently afaik
alright, thanks much!
I don’t think doing that will give any more precise movements tho
Just go find one of those little joysticks that attach to the WASD.
I don’t think OW supports joysticks as an input peripheral. And I would hazard a guess that any software that would make it recognize it may trigger a cheat detector and lead to other issues.
Old friend of mine use to use a ps4 joystick thing and a mouse for aiming, but it would screw up the UI so bad, so I’m not sure how she used it…
If it were supported, it does give more precise movement. WASD are binary, meaning your range of movement is restricted to 8 binary directions (up/down/left/right and perfect diagonals). Joysticks allow a free range of movement in 360 degrees with a magnitude as well. It’s arguably infinitely more precise.
As to whether or not it’s better, that’s another story. The extra precision he gets might be severely outweighed by the difficulty in doing things like AD strafing or any form of quick maneuvering which may require significantly more arm movement to match the responsiveness of tapping some keys. It may also be more difficult to make small adjustments to your aim, but that can probably be worked around with some practice.
OR you could just use Morse code and do a little bit of . . … . … . … . on your wsad keys
