So I have been playing for a while and I have realized how important tracking the enemies ults are and some players are better at it than others. I know that after a couple of fights heroes like reaper or genji would probably already have their ult if they did well, but are there any tricks to predict how fast most other heroes get their ults?
Well for me itâs a bit of a Spidey senses I guess it can be as simple as âitâs been awhile since âblankâ has ultedâ to " the enemy reaper is trying to get to high ground behind us" to "holy crap, where is phar- (dies instantly to barage) is the most classic one. But yeah just try and learn how fast different characters gain charge and pay attention to kill cam would be my advice
everyone in the team should track their enemy counterparts ult. its super easy if they mirror your character because you look at your own ult and track how much work they are dong: on fire, won teamfight.
if they dont mirror your character you should still be familiar with other ults in your role and how long they charge.
if team is too dumb for everyone to ult track just track the ones that win teamfights.
Assume if you havenât seen it for at least one team fight, they have it.
For mirror picks, if my ult is close to be ready, the enemy most likely has it around that point as well.
Otherwise just observing their behavior.
As a support itâs much easier.
Know how much damage your team took and from whom.
Know the timings through experience.
I know roughly how long it takes to charge your ult.
People usually telegraph it. (and telegraph if they farm it)
Mercy is the best character for training ult-sensing:
- Itâs easier with a mobile character to get a look at whatâs happening across the battlefield
- Her lock on gives her the chance to keep tabs on the kill-feed and ult charge of her teammates (they give an idea of how fast a character is gaining ult charge)
- You get a good grasp on how much damage your team has taken
My dps friend calls me a psychic because very often I will say âX character has ult, be ready!â and then five seconds later they ult.
Pay attention to how long enemies stay in fights and if theyâre dealing damage (supports are easy compared to tanks and damage).
The tracer who dies in the backline instantly every fight wonât have much ult charge, even for a quick-charging ultimate.
Is Zarya high charge constantly and hitting some decent Alt-Fires? Sheâs charging fast.
Also, look at positioning, different heroes will change tactics in order to use their ultimate effectively. Tanks will usually get aggressive, damage heroes will usually be missing for a little bit as they look for a good position, healers will be playing much more defensively to not get hit by ultimates or die.
There is no foolproof way to track ultimates. My rule of thumb is that if a hero has done decent damage in two fights, they probably have their ult.
You honestly get a feel for it after a while. Youâll learn how long itâll take for an ult to charge, plus minus a few seconds, and youâll know when itâs gonna be used. Like previously mentioned, I learned a LOT about ult tracking and predicting the enemy as Mercy since I can do many things at once.
- If you notice the tanks push harder than before, theyâll have an ult and are most likely to use it.
- If you havenât seen their DPS in a while - say a few seconds - theyâre most likely trying to drop on you unprepared. This especially goes for Reaper, Pharah and Genji
Watch their movements, always try to see, hear, and know where your enemy is. The smallest glimpse of a DPS trying to get behind you can be the biggest indicato of when theyâre going to use their ult. I try to also go by my own teammates ultimates. Depending on whoâs doing what and whoâs âbetterâ I can somewhat tell whoâs going to have ult first, especially if thereâs two of the same hero on either side. Itâs really all about time and putting effort into learning and getting to know the mechanics. Youâll get it eventually!
Trick 17: not sure about a enemies ult % let them kill youâŚ
Imho its comming down to logic and prediction.
Heroes like reaper (WHERE IS HE? Probably about to ult)
Zarya is quite aggresive? Probably has grav.
Havenât heard pulse bomb yet? But got harressed a lot? Be careful of her next dives.
Keeping a eye on the teams (tab) helps too.
If you see their Ashe constantly burnt your tanks, it s safe to assume she will have Bob for every fight. Their tanks constantly fed but didnât die, their Ana or Bap will have ults every fight. Their tanks get more aggressive, their ults are ready. Your Zen/Dva is focused non stop, their ult fest is prime. Their dps sudden disappears, look behind your back and ready your CC.
Or it helps if the whole team keep tracks and communicate.
A lot of people also play differently when they have Ult. Reins are more aggressive, Genjis are playing more mid-range as they can double dash in now but want to land shots first, Reapers are nowhere to be seen, Zaryas are trying to demech D.va, etc.
Some heroes are usually not too hard to predict.
McCree and Soldier tend to go to high ground, and you can hear McCreeâs footsteps from miles away so you shouldnât be surprised. Hanzo and especially Junk tend to hide in a safe place. If any of these suddenly disappear without having died then be prepared.
If I got soloshatered for example I will remember this moment for las couple fights then I just expect that, especially when rain obviousely start to play agressive for example =) Most of the ults are able to built in average 1:30 min or in 2 teamfights. At high ranks this could be 30-40 seconds if teamfight has won. At low elo ult charge time could be stretched to 2:30 sometimes or even higher. Y
If you donât already, you can look at the playerâs ult charge that killed you.
Start trying to track your mirror. If youâre playing Rein, then gauge how well youâre doing vs the other Rein; you can get a general guess at what theyâre at since the have the same passive charge rate as you.
Trying to track all ults from the get-go is going to be a migraine, start with your mirror then your duoâs mirror, then track âbigâ ults like Trance or Grav since thatâs more important than knowing if Ashe has Bob.
Tempo ults, like Pulse Bomb or Seizure beam, donât bother and just assume theyâre practically always up within ~45 seconds of the last use unless theyâre playing particularly well or bad.
Well, just see how some hero do in battle.
Like if hero was doing a lot of damage and killing everyone left and right, but havenât used ult in like 3-4 minutes, then he has ult.
Or if there are a lot of damage from your side, but enemy doesnât really die, then be prepared that enemy supps will have their ult up soon.
I try to watch the enemies who damage my team the most, but my priority target to watch when trying to track ultimates are the tanks as theyâre the first ones to open the teamfight, or at least in my rank (gold). Rein shatters and Zarya gravs are extremelly easy to predict since they just walk in front of the team and press Q so Iâm always ready. Also DPS. If an enemy dps is wrecking my team I always expect them to have their ults ready (example McCree or Genji). Supports are my most difficult ones to track except for Ana or Zenny. If the enemy team has one or both of those characters and its taking a lot for your team to cap point payload, you know its because of their powerful heals. For Zenny, I always try to bait the trans. Then Ana can charge her ult very fast.
The same happens in my games lol I like it when it does.
ââPharah is gonna ultââ
3 seconds pass
ââJUSTICE RAINS FRO-AARGHââ
Another successful psychic reading.
Track your counterpart.
If you running dva, and you see that they are in their mech a little bit longer than you, add around 10 to 20% ult charge to your amount, and that is how much they have
Another way you can track is how the enemy changes the way they play. If some start playing a little bit more passively, they are either close to their ult or they have it.
Track how many ult were used per fight.
If there were 2 used, the next fight will contain 2 or 3.
