Can anyone suggest the best way to record VODs in windows?
Do you just use the default windows VOD recorder.
Is 30 FPS VOD ok?
How much does it affect actual in game FPS?

I have an shadowplay personally. Although I don’t really use it.
I don’t think it impacts FPS that much when I do use it though
Shadow play is great does not hurt FPS, OBS studio as well. With some tweaking even Bandicam can work.
And you don’t have to limit the VOD to 30fps, you can record and playback and stream at 60 FPS as well. With some dependencies.
What about the default windows vod recorder? How does it compare?
I have a meager PC, i5 4460, 1x1600Mhz ram, RX 580 and can record just fine with Plays.TV, good settings too, 1080p 60FPS with good bitrate.
My FPS dropped but not enough to bother.
Would not recommend Windows, Fraps or MSI Afterburner recording tools, they hit like a truck.
Shadowplay…
No impact on my system, but I have a higher end pc. I’m usually at 230ish FPS at full Epic settings, on a 49" Samsung monitor
Do you have an AMD or Nvidia GPU?
I have a weird setup
Core i3, dual core 3.2GHz
Nvidia GTX 1060, 6GB
So the issue i will have is with CPU, not graphics card likely
I use shadowplay. It doesn’t hit my performance as hard as things like OBS.
Shadowplay works fine for most games if you have an Nvidia card. Just needs to be set up right. I wouldn’t recommend using the default Windows option.
Thank you all, i will try shadowplay and OBS!
though for console recording, I heard fraps is alright
Shadow play, OBS are your best bets.
Won’t affect your CPU, and your video card is solid enough to handle it without issue.
By that do you mean that Xbox live thing that you hit win+G to use?
If so, I haven’t experienced any issues with it.
Yup, thats the one. I kind of dont like using 3rd party software, thats why i am asking.
But that shadowplay seems to be perfect for me from its description, a built-in Nvidia recorder sounds great!
Shadowplay drops my FPS by around 20ish. Not enough to prevent me from using it if I want to record a VOD. But enough to prefer playing without it.
There’s Fraps for consoles?!
no, but in the early days of gaming on youtube, its what many people used (in conjunction to dvr as I have heard) to record content
I use this thing called Plays(.)tv which has very minimal FPS drops, if any, for me.
uh depends on your pc, if you use a potato, i wouldn’t expect anything.
Theres also this registry file which you can install which basically prioritizes Overwatch when in game. When you have multiple applications open your PC automatically distributes resources evenly as its needed. But when you’re recording, the recorder requires a lot so it takes away from the game. This file basically prioritizes Overwatch.
Your FPS won’t be affected as compared to not recording, but the recording will suffer when OW starts to become more and more demanding (Like in the middle of a team fight)
friend me on discord if you want this file AK1174#4400 (Uh on second thought i may be able to give this to you if a friend has it, i dont have the file on hand anymore.
