How to overcome bad dps

What is a tank supposed to do if their dps are just not cooperating? Is it truly just gg?

What are dps supposed to do with a bad tank? What are tanks supposed to do with bad heals? If you have a deadweight teammate in any roles it’s mainly gg. Assuming enemy doesn’t also have same problem. I would however rather have a bad dps or support than tank, since the tank is the most important hero.

If both are bad/worse than the enemies? I’d say yea - gg

You could try to get a pocket healer and get your off supp to play more like a dps but there’s not much you can do during a 3v5

If just one is bad? Just hope that your support can carry them and then enemy is sloppy

well it’s easy to point fingers…you’re playing with strangers across various different skill levels…you’re going to get people who are amazing and you’re going to get noobs…nothing you can do about how other people play.

best thing to do is analyze yourself. watch your replays, see what you could’ve done better, how you can adjust to your playstyle, mistakes you can avoid in future games etc.

that’s literally the only thing you can do…best not to dwell on others and focus on yourself which is honestly advice I would give to anyone about anything in life.

In half the matches, I know exactly what needs to change for a W, but nobody is interested. That’s the frustrating part as Tank. I have but one slot to fill.

try to communicate in a friendly way that’s not antagonizing or condescending…sometimes people are open to adjusting or playing as a team but most of the time they are not. In my experience people’s mentality are “everyone else is wrong and I am right”.

do what you can and hope for the best, continuously pushing people to play how you think the game should be played in order to secure a win will just create and environment of toxicity and then the game stops being a game, it stops being fun. I have had plenty of fun games where I lost, sometimes really bad losses…it’s okay to lose as long as you yourself tried and did the best you could. Best thing to do is learn from the experience and try to apply that to future matches

Pretty much.
One weak link that gets exploited is a loss for that team, if both teams are of equal capability.

Unless you are using an S-tier Tank.

Bro have you notice all the bad DPS players in comp today or is it just my luck?

Get picks still. Having a bad tank or supports as a DPS does not mean the game is lost. You can still kill things, heck you can even switch to Widow and not rely on your team at all.

Hard to get kills when you have no space cuz you have a bad tank. Can’t push into their tank as a dps. Hard to get kills when the enemy has supports healing their dps and you don’t. Maybe if you are a cracked widow and having a great game they can make up for it. But that will be few and far between. It’s a very team based game, we all depend on each other. But the tank is still the most important hero on the map. Losing your tank first in a fight is almost always a lost fight.

Play enough OW until you aren’t phased by teammates you deem subpar.

What do you do when you have 10-15 more kills than the next dps, as is often the case in my losing matches.?

The biggest problem Ive seen is dps not killing the enemy flankers, causing the supports to fold, understandbly. Can’t tank my way out of that.

Roles don’t matter, one player can cause win or loss with unbalanced matchmaking. Team-based games rely on everyone working together and playing optimally.

You just try your best in hope that they wake up. If they refuse to adapt, you are quite obviously going to lose. If they adapt, it’s probably a win because I can guarantee their team will encounter the same problem.

its a team based game with only 5 people per team

either you carry, work together, or you just dont

idk what you could say in chat without being reported for toxicity

if you could win every game by being good then it wouldnt really be a team based game; might as well play the PvE modes or do duels

your best bet is probably group queue or pray to MM gods

It sucks having demonstrably better stats than the rest of the team and losing by a hair after carrying as hard as you can.

honestly depending on the match (normally if its Unranked) I can skill check the rest of their team by playing ball or hog, mostly hog, and kill their squishies myself. all my dps has to do is shoot their tank, all the support has to do is not die, and we will probably win.

No one is saying it isn’t hard. But out of anyone, it is the easiest for the DPS.

What is a support supposed to do when their dps or tank sucks? They can save their lives as many times as they want, but it doesn’t mean anything if the tank/dps does nothing with the support they’re getting.

I’ve said this since the beginning of OW1 and I have always believed it to be true no matter how many people disagreed. You win fights by getting picks, and you win games by winning fights. It is the primary job of DPS to get picks, and it is definitely the easiest to get picks as a DPS. Of course tanks and supports can and do get kills, and there is more to OW than just killing the enemy, but that is the very core of the game. Therefore, DPS are responsible for the most important element of the game and are the most carry heavy role.

Pretty much yes. Unless the other DPS can pick up the slack.

This is the third match, right now, where I am absolutely dominating as tank, and we lose because dps made one swap that my dps will not deal with.

It feels truly unwinnable. It’s always the same, steamroll until their team adapts, then my team sits on their picks. I swap, they hard swap to counter me. Maybe I should lay low and play worse? At least then they might not do the hard counter plays.
